King Cassius was seated within his private quarters, his softened gaze studying a portrait of a red haired woman. She had been his late wife, mate and the Queen of the Devane Kingdom. His star, his dear Celeste. His world. She was his heart. The king released an angered hiss as his focus turned to the sounds from outside his door. Muffled footsteps could be heard throughout the empty halls, nearly echoing within the castle. A castle filled with vampires would naturally be silent as the undead immortal beings moved about without making a sound. The current footsteps was merely a formality, a sign of respect to show that others were approaching. It was frowned upon for vampires to scare or startle one another, especially when doing so with a royal.
The king speedily covered the grand painting of his mate with velvety curtains, hiding her existence and his memories of her from unworthy individuals. After all, only a select few knew what the deceased Queen had looked liked. Soon enough knocking could be heard on the door, to which the king responded, "Enter." After receiving permission, three individuals entered the room. Two males and a female, all dressed in their most grand attire. They gave a formal bow in greeting and in turn, received a simple head nod from their king.
"Commander Devane, inform me of our new guests." The king's deep voice commanded the eldest of the two males.
"They're being escorted to the castle as we speak. Once they've arrived, they'll be cleaned of their kingdom's stench and old clothes burned before they're taken to the throne room. A minimum of 3 guards will be present with them at all times. And should they choose to run or attempt to escape, cells have been prepared in advance." The commander formally reported to his king.
"Excellent! Lady Devane, I assume their permanent quarters have been prepared as well?" The king questioned the female vampire next.
.
"Yes, your majesty... Their servant quarters are ready, along with their new work uniforms." She respectfully confirmed the king's statement.
"As you all know... every 200 years, the human kingdom offers 5 individuals to maintain peace between the mortals and immortals. And in our royal tradition, the Crown Prince is given the opportunity to claim one of these sacrifices as his own. To serve him for the remainder of their pitiful, mortal lives. But that does not prevent the rest of the royal family to select a servant either. Commander Devane, Lady Devane. You have my permission to select a servant if you so wish...Now then... Let's go greet the offerings..." the king nodded, dismissing the three vampires before zooming out of the room. The other three followed suit, easily keeping up with the king's inhuman speed.
They came to an abrupt halt in front of a very large, intricately carved door, said door lead to the throne room. The throne room was quite large, it's size competing with the grand ballroom. At the back, centred was two thrones fit for a king and queen. They were identical except for the delicate crown layed on the cushion of the Queen's throne. A few steps lead up to the slightly elevated platform that the thrones rested on.
Soon enough, the doors opened with a loud bang and a guard started to announce the vampires as they entered. Up first, the Commander and the Lady, her arm interlinked with his as they seemingly glided into the room. They moved to stand at the left hand side of the Queen's throne at the bottom of the steps.
"Prince Raul Vladimir Devane, Commander of the Royal Guard and First Prince of the Devane Kingdom.
Princess Elizabeth Lenora Devane, Lady of the High Court and mate to the First Prince of the Devane Kingdom." The guards voice boomed as he spoke, finishing just as the pair came to a stop. He then proceeded to announce the second vampire.
"Prince Alaric Serafino Devane, first born of the Devane Lineage and Crown Prince of the Devane Kingdom. Hail to the Crown Prince Devane!" The guards voice boomed once more as the prince entered the room. The room grew eerily silent as if it waited in anticipation for him to take his place at the right hand side of the king's throne. Once he came to a halt, all the guards present banged the opposing hand on their chests. The action caused a loud metallic clang as they continued to do so until the prince silenced them with a nod.
The room grew silent once more before the king's presence was announced. "His majesty the king, King Cassius Serafino Devane, Emperor of the Vampire Council!" The guards stood at attention as the King walked to his throne before taking a seat. His form exuded authority and power, the guards keeping their eyes lowered as a sing of respect before saluting their king.
"Proceed!" The king's deep voice boomed as his red eyes landed on the 5 offerings, a sinister smirk on his lips.

Part 1
----------
The Royals waited patiently as each human was introduced, pleased to discover their names and prior responsibilities. It was useful to know what the humans had done at their Kingdom as their skills could and would be utilized by the vampires. After all, one wouldn't force a fish to fly like a bird. It is not in their nature.
.
All vampires present within the throne room couldn't help themselves as they smelled the tantalising scent of blood, their eyes turning a crimson red as they instinctively licked their lips in anticipation. Once the Royals had taken their pick, the rest of the humans were up for grabs. Naturally, these humans wouldn't be sucked dry instantaneously. They were current the source of their blood for the time being.
When one of the humans fought back, it caused the vampires to be riled up even more.
.
The king left his throne and approached the humans, his manner mimicking that of a predator stalking its prey. He took his time, the sound of steps was that of a warning. He came to a halt in front of Andrew, his sinister smirk had yet to leave his face. In a flash his hand had reached out and grabbed the human's hair in a fist, forcing the man to meet his gaze. "Let this be a reminder of what happens to those who oppose the immortals..." the king glanced at the other humans, his crimson gaze sending daggers their way. He chuckled as he took in their trembling forms before abruptly yanking the male to his feet with ease. The king was easily two heads taller than Andrew as he looked down at the man.
.
"You want to fight, to resist... by all means, go ahead... It's quite entertaining to watch. But your actions have consequences... Consequences that you must take responsibility for. Tonight, you will serve as the Royal Guards meal... You are not permitted to rest or fall unconscious until every single vampire of the Royal Guard had drunk their fill... If you do fall unconscious, you will be woken up and forced to endure whatever entertainment they desire... As for your new accommodation, I think the dungeons will suffice. Take him away." The king declared, his booming voice causing a slight echoe within the castle. He watched with satisfaction as the human was dragged away by two guards in the direction of the dungeons. "There's no point in claiming a personal blood bag... Their quite annoying, the Queen enjoyed them but I do not. I'll have one of them for dinner in my private quarters... Suprise me with a left over blood bag..." he stated, his demeanor now nonchalant as he headed back to his throne and resumed his seat. The humans weren't to be killed, they'd have to succumb to natural causes if they were to meet their death within the kingdom. But the humans didn't need to know that.
.
---------
Part 2
----------
Alaric had stood at attention as the humans were introduced, smirking when one of them fought back. Humans really were pathetic things in comparison to vampires. He almost felt sorry for them as they clearly were at the bottom of the food chain. He soon grew bored, not entertained by his father's display of power. He just wanted to claim a blood bag and get the hell back to his quarters. He could care less about the 200 year old tradition and the peace agreement.
When his father resumed his place on the throne it was finally his turn to pick a human. He quite liked the male with a fighting spirit but he'd already been assigned his duties for the time being. So that left the other two males and two females. He approached the one they said had been a blacksmith and circled him. His blood would have a potent taste due to his profession, most likely tasting like iron and smoke. He scrunched his nose at the thought before moving on to the tailor. He circled him too before moving on to the baker. Having a female servant wouldn't be ideal, as the vampires had their own customs. Females served females and males served males. But he was the prince, he could choose whomever he liked. His gaze moved to his sister, knowing that she would enjoy the company of the female baker more than he would.
As such, he came to stand in front of the last human. He took in her appearance as he circled her, noting that she wasn't too bad looking for a human. If she had worked at the stables it would mean that she was quite strong in her own right. For some strange reason, he felt himself desiring to see that side of her. At this he made his decision. He was going to claim her. Traditionally, when claiming a servant, the blood would be drunk from the hand. But Alaric was already breaking the opposite sex custom so might as well go big or go home. And as the crown prince he most certainly won't be going home.
He helped the girl to her feet, positioning her to face the king while he remained behind her. He could feel his fangs lengthen in preparation, protruding from his lips. His movements were swift as he gently tilted her head to the side and bit into her neck. His defiant gaze met that of his father's quite furious one as the girls blood flowed down his throat. A throat full of blood would've been enough for them to be bounded but he couldn't stop himself from taking another gulp. Her blood was sickly sweet, something he hadn't tasted in all of his years. But he had to restrain himself so he abruptly let the girl go, leaving her to tumble to the ground.
Her blood dripped from his lips as he walked back to his prior spot, ignoring his father's raging expression. There was nothing the king could do now as the girl had already been claimed.
.
------------
Part 3
------------
The Commander had chose not to claim a human and had to leave due to a matter that required his urgent attention. The Lady had claimed the baker girl, just as the Prince had predicted, though had respectfully drunk from her hand and not her neck. The King finalized the claiming process and signaled for the Priest to continue on.

Part 1
----------
The king was seething from where he sat on his throne as he couldn't wait to address the crown prince for his rebellious act. After his beloved mate had passed away, the king grew cold and cruel. Not that he had been a ray of sunshine prior to her death either. He had been a sadistic individual until his mate came into his life and brought out his gentle side. But her death pushed him over the edge, leaving him to run a Kingdom and raze a child on his own. He took to methods of punishment, far too cruel for a 9 year old Alaric to endure. And as such, a mutual understanding between the two originated.
.
Your decisions and actions have consequences. You must take responsibility for those actions and accept the consequences.
.
The king rose from his throne before addressing the room. "Excellent... Lady Devane, tend to the offerings... The Crown Prince and I have matters to discuss in my private quarters. You're all dismissed." His voice boomed for a final time before leaving the room in a blur of black and gold. The Prince followed suit, a brief expression of fear flashing across his face before resuming its prior stoic expression. As soon as the two royals disappeared, it seemed that every vampire present relaxed a bit and the tension in the room had lifted.
.
Lady Elizabeth released her own sigh of relief, an emotion of pity show in her gaze. But the pity was not directed at the humans, no it was for her little brother. She shook her head, knowing that what was to come was Alaric's own fault and there was nothing that she could do about it. After taking a moment to ready herself, she approached the 4 offerings with a kind smile.
.
"Now dearies, stand up... There's no need for you to kneel in my presence. I'm not that important." She attempted to make a joke as she helped the two girls to her feet. The males did not need her assistance in standing up, they were males after all. "You 4 follow me, I'll be taking you to the servant quarters. I ask that you try your best to keep up as I do not have all day... Come along now..." she sternly chirped, heading towards a door and disappearing through it. She did not wait for the humans to follow, after all she was walking at a humane pace.
.
Two guards followed directly behind her while 4 remained with the humans until they moved. These 4 guards were to 'protect' the offerings for the first few weeks of their stay. Once the humans started to follow the female vampire, the guards followed suit right at their heels.
.
-----------
Part 2
-----------
Lady Elizabeth lead the way as they walked through many corridors, turning this way and that way. Finally she came to a halt in front of a well hidden little door. An individual of average height had to duck if they were to enter. The female vampire unlocked the door with the wave of her hand, displaying her magick to the offerings. She entered through the door and waited for the humans to follow. The guards remained outside, standing at either side of the door.
.
The room was small and had a surprisingly homey feel to it. It was a lounge area, not quite decorated but still functional. Lady Elizabeth stood at the centre of the room.
.
"To your left is the men's quarters and to the right is the women's quarters. You each have your own room, but each room shares a bathroom. This section of the castle has a barrier spell cast over it. This means that only the Royal family may enter here, so you'd be safe from the other vampires within the castle. However, you may only come here when your daily tasks have been completed. There will be a guard for each of you, if you need to find something, you are permitted to ask them for help. They serve as your protection and may not feed from you. Now, you boys can settle in. Your uniforms are in your closets along with other mortal necessities." Elizabeth patiently explained the nitty details regarding their safety and quarters.
.
After she had finished, she headed for the door once more, though stopped like she had forgotten something. "One more thing. You are not permitted to have any relationships amongst each other nor any of the vampires. Being a vampires mate is rare, nearly unheard of, and would most certainly guarantee that you be turned into a vampire... If you were to be with child... or be the father of a child, it will be killed before it's birth. Your lineage ends here unless his majesty decides to send you back to the mortal kingdom after a few years of service... Girls, go and get dressed in your new uniforms please. I'll be outside." Her gaze was stern as she pointedly looked at each individual human while she spoke. The gift of life was held highly within the vampire customs as it was difficult for a vampire to have children. Not impossible but not easy either. If humans were to fall pregnant, there's no guarantee as to what the vampires would do to get their hands on the baby.
.
----------
Part 3
-----------
Elizabeth had taken a seat outside of the small door, the female vampire was exhausted. It had been a stressful day with her duties as the first lady of the court, paired with her duties regarding the humans. And thanks to her current health, any stress even the tiniest amount, took its toll on her.
Once the two girls joined her in the corridor, Elizabeth stood and headed for the west wing. "The West Wing is where my mate and I stay, along with other visiting nobles. The East Wing is where his majesty, the King, and his highness, the Crown Prince, stays. Any questions, girls? Please feel free to ask, I won't bite... Quite literally, I can't drink blood. And you really don't have to be scared little things around me." She smiled warmly at them, waiting for them to ask questions.

Elizabeth waited for the bravest of the two girls to finish speaking, amused by how the two humans seem to differ from one another. She was also impressed by how the girl had spoken with a respectful tone, despite having experienced a traumatic ordeal.
The female vampire hummed in recognition of the questions asked, though gestured towards a grand staircase. They had stopped there just after she allowed them to ask questions. "Before I answer your question, dear... this staircase leads to the West Wing where Ava would be working. A guard will show you to the Crown Prince's room in just a moment... First off, when it's just us three girls please adress me as Eliza. My status does not demand others to adress me formally at all times. The guards who are employed as your escorts adress me informally as well. When in the company of others, adress me as Lady Devane.
Now for your questions Kate... You'll make use of the following routine:
06:30 to 08:30 = Wake your masters and help them get ready for the day.
09:00 = Either escort them to the dining hall for breakfast or bring them their breakfast.
09:45 to 12:00 = Tidy their quarters along with cleaning up the hallway that leads to them.
12:00 to 13:00 = Free time, or get yourself lunch.
13:00 to 13:30 = Your masters will feed from you for lunch.
13:30 to 17:30 = Occupy yourselves with useful tasks around the castle, whether that's helping in the kitchen or helping other maids with cleaning and chores.
17:30 to 18:15 = Assist in the preparation for dinner.
18:30 = Serve your master their evening meal. While they eat, prepare their quarters for the night. After they've finished, help them get ready for bed.
This is just a rough schedule really, as your masters could ask you to stay with them throughout the day and perform any tasks that they ask of you. All humans must be in the servants quarters at 21:00 sharp. The royals are mostly awake and active during the day, the rest of the kingdom comes alive at night. So an early bed time for you, is just in consideration for your safety." Elizabeth tried her best to provide a decent schedule for the two girls to follow. She even attempted to be sincere by addressing them by their names.
.
---------
Part 2
----------
She had noticed their dismay at not being able to rest like the other two males and felt the need to inform them of the reason.
"You all have the rest of the day off, so I recommend that you dearies do not leave the servant quarters. However, the reason I had you two follow me was to discuss certain matters and to clarify a few things. As claimed servants, I ask you not to discuss your tasks nor your masters with the other servants. And regarding the relationship matter, you are allowed to be friends, in fact I encourage you to be close with one another. Romantic relationships are forbidden amongst the offerings. Believe it or not, these rules are for your safety.
The reason for this is due to our immortality as vampires. We are dead to a certain extent, though we bleed, eat and sleep much like humans do. But when it comes to conceiving young, our species are not alike.
If humans are of age and are wedded, the chances of having young within the next 4 to 5 years is guaranteed. If vampires are of age and find their mate, it could take up to a hundred years or even more to conceive young. Most families are only able to have one offspring, maybe two if their lucky.
For a human to conceive within the kingdom... It's dangerous. Many noble families without an heir would jump to the opportunity to turn a new born child and claim it as their own. They would even go as far as killing the unborn infants mother to claim it. We may be viewed as monsters but we do have our own customs and rules to keep you safe." Elizabeth's tone saddened the more she spoke, showing her true concern for their safety. The girl's deserved to know what the consequences could be if they were to fall with child.
"I think I've said enough... You must be dying to get some rest. There's a third door within the servants lounge that leads to a kitchen. That's your kitchen, so to speak. As the royal meals are prepared in the castle's kitchen. The guards will be escorting you back, I will be retiring to my room for the evening." Elizabeth smiled at the two girls before turning around and headed for the stairs, only to stop once more.
"Kate, a guard will come fetch you as soon as his majesty, the King, and the Crown Prince had finished their... discussion." Her friendly tone from before had disappeared when she spoke, switching to a somewhat disgusted tone as she all but spat out the word 'discussion'. She left in blur after that, leaving the two girls in the hall with their two escorts.

Alaric's breathing came out laboured, interrupted by short painful gasps. His one hand used the wall for support, the other tightly clutched his abdomen as a dark black liquid stained his white dress shirt. His movements where slow as he headed for his room, praying that he wouldn't encounter a guard or maid. He didn't need their glances filled with pity nor to show that he was indeed vulnerable.
But there was no denying that his current state of being was his own fault. He had angered his father and, as such, was punished accordingly. Deep scratch mark's littered his body, each oozing out a dark liquid. He was bleeding, quite badly at that. Each mark had been made with the intent to harm, to cause the utmost pain and discomfort. But that was how it was. How it had always been.
The king would take him to a torture chamber, or his private quarters as the king would call it, and give him his punishment. He was forced to repeat the actions that lead him to his situation and face the consequences. He was not allowed to cry. To scream. To show any sign of pain. For if he did, the punishments severity would increase. He had learned that quite early on, though still found himself going back to that dreaded room time and time again.
A pained groan left his lips as he entered his room, thankful that the damn chamber was not too far of a walk. He shut the door behind him, locking it. His eyes turned from hazel to a deep red out of anger and frustration, a low hiss escaping his lips. In a fit of rage, Alaric started to destroy everything in his room which took little effort from the vampire. But it wasn't enough, he needed more. He tore the curtains from their rails, discarding it on the floor. His form seemed to zoom across the room, breaking anything and everything. In a last attempt to rid of his anger and frustration, he took to breaking one of the windows.
It was at the sound of the shattering glass that he snapped back to reality, his eyes shifting from crimson to hazel once more. His breathing had not improved and it seemed he had irritated the wounds even more as the bleeding intensified. They would take quite a while to heal, though he would not succumb to them. He was immortal after all.
His eyes glanced around the room, taking in the damage he had caused, only for his eyes to land on the broken mirror. His brain managed to register a shattered image of himself, broken just like the mirror. The tired vampire moved to sit in the broken window, one leg dangling over the frame as his back rested against the wall. His gaze was void of emotion, of life as he stared at the world below. A single tear rolled down his cheek. Though another would never follow.
.

Part 2
------------
Elizabeth had went to her room to lay down for a bit. When a guard came to inform her that the crown prince had returned to her room, she had asked for him to locate Kate and her escort. Once she knew where the girl was, the female vampire went to her immediately.
"Kate, please come with me..." the vampiress did not wait for the girl to follow as she headed to the East Wing and to her brother's room. Once there, she knocked before opening the door. Well tried to, only to discover it locked. She waved her hand, unlocking the door. Seemingly out of now where, Elizabeth handed the girl a bag of medical supplies.
"You will need this... Just... be gentle with him..." Elizabeth's voice came out as a whisper, her hand gesturing towards the door. She gave the girl an encouraging smile, though her eyes were filled with sadness. She cleared her throat before turning to the girl's escort. "You know what to do when things... get out of hand." Was all she said before she disappeared.

Alaric tried his best not to flinch as the girl cleaned the wounds on his back. In an attempt to distract him from the discomfort she was causing, the male vampire resorted to clenching his jaw. Though this method did not prove as effective as he would've liked. Atleast he could be thankful for the fact that she was behind him and couldn't witness his discomfort for time being.
.
However, once she had finished with his back, the girl moved to treat the wounds on his chest and lower abdomen. When she was seated in front him, Alaric couldn't help but stare at the mortal creature before him. This moment allowed him to observe more closely. He noticed how tense her form was though figured out was due to how close she had to be. He also did not miss how her hair covered the bite mark on her neck. His mark. It did not take a genius to see that she was clearly terrified of his mere presence and yet, there she was, cleaning and bandaging his wounds. But why? Why treat his wounds? Was it because she feared his sister more than she feared him? Perhaps she feared death? Or perhaps Ellie was just much better with handling these fragile creatures than he was?
.
Regardless, his hazel orbs remained on the girl while she worked. Though soon found himself tensing up when she started to wrap a bandage around his body. In order for mortal thing to do this, she had to close the distance between them. *Too close...* he thought to himself, suddenly uncomfortable with the lack of space between. Though no doubt she felt the same, in fact, he figured she was more frightened than uncomfortable. *Wait... what is that scent?... Is it coming from her? There's no way such a sweet scent could come from such a-a thing?* these were Alaric's thoughts as a new smell wafted into his nose. What puzzles him was that it appeared to be coming from the servant girl. He hadn't smelled her back in the throne room, his thoughts to preoccupied with other things to notice. But now, due to their close proximity, not only could he smell her but hear her racing heart as well.
.
His eyes slowly shifted from its hazel hue to a deep crimson, his fangs lengthening subconsciously. He subtly leaned closer as he breathed deeply through his nose, taking in her sweet scent as it mixed with that of her blood. Her racing heart only fuelled his predatory instincts as he readied himself to pounce. But before he was too far gone, the prey hastily moved away only to clean the medical trash, taking with her the sweet scent. It annoyed him greatly and puzzled him as to why she had to be close enough for him to smell her scent. No, this wouldn't do. He needed more... Much more before he could feel satisfied.
.
His eyes were focused solely on her form, noting how her lips moved as she spoke though he couldn't hear her over her heartbeat. It was all he could hear as his senses fixated on the servant girl. No, on the prey. In a blur, he had the girl pinned to the wall by her throat. His grasp was not tight enough to cut off her air but strong enough to keep her in place. His body moved to lightly press against hers, trapping her in place. Crimson eyes looked down at the servant girl, his form towering over her. His eyes met hers as he came to a sudden realization. His prey's eyes were the colour of stormy skies... and the exact same shade as his mother's.

The guard, who had been stationed by the door, could only scowl in disapproval at the Crown Prince's flirtatious behaviour. Though kept his mouth shut and stood at attention. He felt some pity for the human girl, as it clearly showed she was terrified of her current situation. But there was nothing that he could possibly do without getting himself killed in the process. It was selfish as he valued his own life above that of mortal creature.
.
Time passed as he observed the two, pleased to see the prince had yet to do something. Though this was short lived as he watched the royal vampire pin the girl to a wall. That wasn't good. In his thousand years of service, the guard had yet to witness a vampire with such a lack of control. A royal vampire at that.
.
Usually the bitten vampires struggled with their instincts the longest and it was the born vampires who had control over these predatory instincts from early on. But the Crown Prince was a different matter. The king had encouraged the lack of control in his only offspring as he deemd it a valuable quality to be king one day. The poor boy had to loose himself over and over again until his father was satisfied that he wouldn't ever gain control in the future. The guard had to witness this cruel method of training along with the prince's two older siblings.
.
The guard readied himself to fight the royal vampire and get him away from the human girl. Though was surprised to see the prince frozen in place as he stared at his meal. This gave the guard a chance to shove him away from the girl before he spoke. "Hey kid! Snap out of it!"
.
It appeared as if the prince experienced a moment of clarity, his crimson gaze glancing between the two. It seemed like he had realized something as he turned his back to the two. "Get her out... leave me be..." he ordered before stumbling back to his window and taking a seat, his empty gaze watching the world once more.
.
To this, the guard sighed in relief, grateful that he hadn't needed to fight the young prince. "Let's get you back to the servants quarters..." he spoke softly, guiding the girl out of the room before closing the doors.

----------
Alaric's gaze was void of emotion, his form still as he gazed out of his window once more. His eyes had yet to revert back to its hazel colour, so too has his fangs yet to retract to it's normal size. The predator within him had yet to settle as his instincts remained alert. At this, the lonely vampire released a chuckle. He was no predator. He was a monster by vampire standards. How was it possible for the human's mere scent and racing heart to drive him off the edge into the abyss? *You know how... You know who's to blame...Mother would've stopped him...* a voice within him whispered with malice as the image of his father appeared in his minds eye. His father was the true monster and had succeeded in making his own son just like him. After all, no one is born a monster. They become one.
.
He closed his eyes, hoping that by doing so his mind would become at ease. Through the malicious thoughts a faint light managed to break through. Within the abyss of his mind, a certain servant girl appeared. It puzzled him greatly. He could see her, a blurry vision though still visible. But what stood out to him, what tore through every fibre of his being... were her eyes. Those stormy grey orbs that seemed all too familiar. When he gazed into them, he did not see the frightened human girl, no... he saw someone else. Someone who left him alone in this immortal world. Someone he cared for deeply. Someone he loved. His mother.
.
At this, laughter escaped his lips causing him to sound like a mad man. Perhaps, he was a mad man. After all, why would fate allow for such a sickening irony. It had been over 300 years since she had been killed and yet, there she was! Trapped within the eyes of a servant girl. Fate seemed hell bent to make his eternal life a living hell, to force him to experience the same pain over and over and over again. For the servant girl who had his mother's eyes was not immortal and would succumb to death eventually. And with her death, she'll take with her silvery orbs. No. He won't allow for fate to play it's nasty tricks. He won't let that mortal thing affect him. She was a source of blood, a walking blood bag that served his every whim. His pawn. His plaything.
.
And yet... He couldn't resist the small voice at the back of his mind. *Mother's there... she's here... she's back. Just like she promised... we're safe.* the voice whispered, a sensation of calm flooding over his being. His eyes reverted back from its crimson red and his fangs returned to normal. It was okay.
.
It's okay to loose yourself every now and then... to feel overwhelmed and lost... for it is what makes us human.
.
His mother's words echoed within his mind, a sad smile grazing his lips. He looked up, towards the world outside when he heard the soft hoots of his familiar. The owl landed on his outstretched arm, making soft chirps in greeting. She would always come when Alaric thought of his mother. After all, the owl had been her familiar prior to her death. "Hello Cas..." he greeted softly, giving the owl a gentle scratch on the head. Casian, along with his brother and sister, made his life more bearable. If it hadn't been for them, he most certainly have turned into his father's ideal creation. A true, cruel monster.
.
"I need your help Cas... I'm lost... and I don't know what to do..." he whispered, eyes filled with unshed tears. The owl met his eyes with an intelligent gaze, nuzzling his cheek in comfort. She gave a soft hoot before flapping her wings once. She knew what to do, what Alaric desired deep within his heart. As his familiar, they communicated through mind, body and soul. Though the heart was most important. "Alright... off you go..." he muttered, holding his arm out of the window and allowing the owl to take off. He could only watch her, hoping that whatever the owl was about to do, would bring him comfort in some way.

Casian flew from Alaric's window, flapping her wings to gain height in order to glide downwards towards another open window. The owl made use of the wide open hallways as she headed towards her new location, ready to fulfill his deepest wish. She soon found a servant girl being escorted back to her room. The medium sized owl hovered over them for a few moments before flying ahead to the servants quarters. Once there, she seemed to faze through the small door and headed for a certain girls bed. Now all she had to do was wait...

Part 1
--------
Casian patiently waited in the dark, resorting to preening her feathers to pass the time. Soon enough, a female entered though she appeared quite shocked to find the dark coloured owl on her bed. Said owl remained seated, though tilted her head in a questioning manner. Her intelligent gaze studied the female, unsure of why she was crying. The owl made a soft whistling sound, not sure of what to do. Her master seldom, if not at all, cried like this so the poor owl was at a loss.
.
She hopped of the bed before curiously approaching the crying girl. Another soft whistle sounded from her beak as she gently tugged at the girls sleeve. Perhaps she was crying because she was hurt. That must be it, all creatures cry or whimper when they experience pain.
.
Casian hopped towards the girls side, trying her best to find the girls face. Though it seemed to be hidden by the girl's hands. She tugged at the girl's sleeve once more, hoping that by doing so, the girl would reveal her face. But the owl soon gave up on that as her eyes found, what she believed to be, the source of the girl's tears. Her master wanted her to help the girl, so that was what she was going to do. She made happy hoot noises, celebrating that she knew what to do.
.
Soon the markings on the owl's feathers began to glow a soft blue as she gently rested her head on the girl's lap. She was going to make the girl feel better. The magick that radiated off of the owl soon flowed to the girl's hand and neck, healing them within an instant, not even leaving a scar behind. At this another triumphant hoot sounded from the owl before the glow began to fade, leaving a somewhat normal looking owl in its place.

Part 2
----------
Alaric had stayed at his window for a few moments before releasing a sigh. Sadly, he did not have the privilege of staying in his room all evening, as even the Crown Prince had duties to fulfill at night. The other royal would soon head to bed, all besides him. He had to help with training the new vampires who had been employed as guards. That and he had to somewhat tidy his room. So he changed into his informal attire before starting to clean up the mess.
.
Sure, he had his own personal servant along with the other maids of the castle but most of the broken furniture would either be too heavy or require more than one to individual to carry it. And he was most certainly not in the mood to have multiple unwanted feet in his room. He started to carry the mess to a disposable heep behind the stables. This did not take too long, though took longer than usual due to his wounds. But it was nothing new.
.
As he did some tidying, he suddenly felt his energy draining. The moment was brief and he recovered, though realized that his familiar had used their shared magick. What the owl had done, Alaric did not know. Though hoped that the owl hadn't caused more mischief. His thoughts of the owl were soon interrupted by a maid delivering a letter. He scoffed at this, scaring the poor maid as he angrily ripped the letter open.
.
After all, he recognized the scent that covered said letter. It belonged to his betrothed. His 'mate to be', Cordelia Von Tremaine. Said female was the daughter of one of the strongest and most powerful nobles that could rival his father. The only reason he wasn't on the throne was because he wasn't born a prince, nor became the Crown Prince. His father recognized the other's strength and decided that he must be subdued. As such, a marriage of convenience was arranged between Alaric and Cordelia. That way, two powerful vampire families were united, Alaric would be King and Cordelia would be Queen.
.
Though there was one tiny problem to his father's grand plan. The two young vampires despised each other. Sure they would act all civilised in other's presence but when they were alone they constantly tried to tear each other's throats out. Not only were they forced to marry the other, oh no, they had to grow up together prior to their wedding. So for the last 200 years or so, Cordelia would visit for a decade or two to 'strengthen' their bond. Both parties greatly disliked this as neither were actual mates. Though since the last visit, Cordelia seemed to have made peace with the fact that she was marrying Alaric. Much to his discontent, might I add. He glanced down to the letter, his gaze racing across the words. It read:
.
Dear Prince Alaric
It is time for my annual visit to the Devane Castle. I expect to see you soon.
Your dearest mate to be,
Cordelia
.
Alaric crumpled the letter into a tine ball and threw it away from him before storming off. He returned to his room, it still being a somewhat mess though most of the furniture was removed. His angry gaze landed on the broken window. *Ellie will just have to fix that...* he thought to himself, growing frustrated with himself. He was not the greatest spell caster compared to his elder sister. And she had just the spell to fix the window.

Alaric was lost in his own thoughts as he staired onto the land below. The once lush green lands were now void of life, the air cold and unforgiving. The world outside echoed what he was feeling on the inside. Dead. Though this death was not as permanent compared to his immortality, no, this death could be revived. But there was no reason to feel, never had been and most likely never will. There are no joys within an immortal life for you can only see the light so many times before it stops shining through the dark.
.
He had not heard the knocking, nor the door being opened. He hadn't registered someone entering. He just continued to stare, his hazel eyes empty, lifeless. Though when his mind had managed to register the word sister, it seemed that something had clicked as his gaze shifted to where the word had come from. More specifically, to who had said it.
.
"I did not give you permission to enter..." he croaked out, his voice giving way to the turmoil within his mind. He despised how his voice sounded weak, how he was being weak. He did not need a damn human to lick his wounds after getting punished. "Just leave..." he all but whispered as his gaze shifted back to the view from his window.
.
The male stayed where he was before coming to a realisation. The servant won't leave without treating him, especially if Elli had told the girl to treat him. He released a groan of annoyance before standing up and removing his blood stained shirt. "Need the pants gone too, love?" He taunted the girl, mockingly attempting to remove his pants as well, though not going through with it. If it made her more uncomfortable, then great. Because he was not amused by the situation.
.
And sadly, Alaric heavily relied on his emotions to act. Rebelling? To annoy his father. Lashing out? Pent up anger. Flirting? For his amusement. Despite having lived over 300 years, the male still had little control over his emotions. They changed in mere seconds, causing him to come off as unstable and dangerous. In the short run, it worked. Others feared him. But in the long run, it took its toll.
.
The vampire took a seat, the chair no longer having its back. Now all he had to do was wait for the servant to treat him.
