Once Skylar walked out of the automatic store doors, the wind lightly slapped him in the face. He was quick to glance over his shoulder at Alex and say, "What do you say?" in a playful tone. A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, but he let it fully form since he wanted to be flirty. Looking back infront of him, he unlocked the truck and got in. Leaning over to the passenger seat, he set the bag down infront of the passenger seat before getting buckled. His eyes then found Alex and he softly let his gaze follow him. Deep down, the guilt from what he put Alex through was trying to claw its way through him. Some moments, it was more apparent than others, but sometimes he can forget it. The same goes for wanting to relapse, and it made him think that both the feelings werent going to go away. Shaking his head slightly, his eyes refocused on Alex before letting his gaze fall to the steering wheel.

Alex was only a step behind Skylar as they departed from the store. He paused just outside the doors, the breeze catching his hair and blowing it back and out of his face. "Hmm?" He hummed in response to the playfully asked question that had been sent his way and started towards the truck. A smile rested on his lips, though that wasn't anything new. Honestly, he realized then, he smiled more when he was with Skylar than he could ever remember smiling before. It wasn't forced, or half hearted. No, it was completely, wholly genuine. It stemmed, he was sure, from the fact that he was happy, truly happy. Forgetting the fear that came with openly showing any kind of affection for Skylar, or the judgement and hate his parents had for people like him was difficult, especially when it encompassed so much of his life. But in moments like these, he could abandon such concerns and focus solely on the boy he was quickly coming to care so much about. Opening the passenger door of the truck when he reached it, Alex was quick to slide into the seat, careful not to step on the bag of food, drinks, and snacks they'd just gotten as he did so.

"You were supposed to say thank you." Sky said, his tone dropping but it wasnt on purpose at all. He immediately regretted how it came out, his face physically cringing from it. "Agh I didnt mean for it to sound like that." Sky said hesitantly, keeping his eyes forward as he put on his seatbelt and started the engine. He clenched his jaw, getting pissed off at himself. Ever since rehab, it seemed as if he's never not irritable, and he hated it. It is true that before he could be a little irritable sometimes, but now it seems to be way more apparent. Taking a shaky deep breath, he looked behind him before backing out of the parking space. He didnt dare to look at Alex as he began to drive. Dont fuck this up, dont fuck this up. Please Skylar. FUCK!

Alex paused at the answer he was given, and the tone in which it was spoken. He parted his lips to respond but was quickly silenced when Skylar spoke once again, stating that he hadn't meant for it to sound like that. He let his gaze rest on him as he moved to buckle before shaking his head. "You're right. I should thank you." He said before huffing playfully and leaning back in his seat. "Though I will admit that I hardly think it's fair you snapped at me and somehow still managed to make my heart do that stupid flip thing it only ever does when I'm with you." He said, a faint smirk pulling at his lips as he tried to sound entirely serious in his attempt to lighten the mood and help Skylar relax by turning what had happened into a joke. He let his gaze rest on the road for a long moment before he turned his blue eyes toward Sky, and allowed himself to simply watch and take in the sight of Skylar as he drove.

A smile threatened his lips as he listened to Alex's reply. Despite the rage burning in his body, Alex trying to lighten the mood helped. Even if it didnt help much, it still made him feel a little better than he felt a second ago. "Oh shut up." Sky said, a small smiling forming on his lips. As he thought more for a moment his smile was quick to drop. "It shouldnt have." He then said, his tone quiet but serious. He kept his eyes on the road, focusing on anything and everything to keep his mind from spiraling. Why am I like this. This is why he started using again. It stops all the thoughts in his brain, or almost all of them. He glanced over at Alex, not knowing if it would help or not. Without the answer he looked back infront of his as his brows slightly furrowed.

Alex was quick to spot the smile that pulled at the corners of Skylar's lips in response to his words and he couldn't help but feel both happy and relieved that he was able to make him smile. Both feelings though were short-lived as he watched that same smile disappear, snatched away from Skylar's face as if it hadn't been there at all. And then came softly spoken but entirely serious words. It shouldn't have. Instantly his chest tightened and his own smile faltered, his gaze quickly returning to one of concern. "Why not?" He questioned before he could stop himself. He hated how his voice sounded like he was confused and hurt. Like Skylar's words had been some kind of blade that had effectively found its mark. Swallowing thickly and suddenly feeling as though the weight of the world and tension in the car was pressing in around him he looked away. For a long moment, he was silent, not sure what to say before he forced his gaze back to Skylar. "Sky... talk to me. Tell me what's going on in that mind of yours." He requested softly as he kept his gaze on the male beside him.

Sky swallowed thickly at Alex's words. "Alex." Sky said quietly, slightly shaking his head. Alex was his boyfriend, so he should be able to talk to him, but Sky didnt want to be a burden to him. "It's common sense, you shouldnt get all excited when someone treats you like shit." Sky replied, almost snapping at Alex again but this time it didnt make him cringe or regret his tone. He only threw a quick glance at him, an irritated expression still on his face. His breathing slightly quickened as he kept his eyes on the road. After noticing his breathing, he tried to take a deep breath and use all his brain power to focus on the road. He pulled into his driveway, immediately shutting off the engine and unbuckling his seatbelt. Getting out, he moved to the other side of the truck and hesitantly reached for Alex's door. In a split second he pulled away and turned around, almost immediately regretting it.

Alex could care less about the fact that Skylar was driving, or about him being a burden. Honestly, he didn't think there was anything that he could do to make him ever view him as a burden or anything close to being one. He wanted to be there for him. He wanted to be someone that he could talk to, that he could rely on. He wanted to be a shoulder for him. And yet, aside from asking for him to share what was on his mind, Alex didn't know how to make that clear. When Sky spoke, he listened, pausing slightly at his words. Though perhaps it shouldn't have he found a smile tugging at his lips, despite the fact that he'd almost been snapped at again. The confusion and hurt were quick to melt away and in its place sat something warm, something almost happy and giddy. "Oh...Right..." He managed, not entirely sure what to say in response to Skylar's answer. Again though such feelings were shortlived when he caught the irritated look that was thrown his way. He tensed at that and found himself quickly moving to turn his gaze out the window. For the remainder of the drive, he didn't say anything, and when they got back to Skylar's place it seemed like he was just starting to unbuckle when Sky was out of the car and moving around to his door. He raised a brow, momentarily surprised, before he frowned when Skylar dropped his hand from the door he'd been about to open and turned away. Okay, something was up. Furrowing his brow Alex was quick to open the door and get out, his gaze never leaving Skylar as he did so. "What's wrong?" He asked, his voice holding a concerned firmness to it as he stepped towards Skylar.

Skylar walked quickly to avoid anything that he expected to happen next, but unfortunately for him, he wasn't quick enough. He barely threw a glance back at Alex and continued to walk. "Just don't." Sky said, irritation only growing more intense. Once he stepped inside, he made sure to leave the door slightly open, even though he wanted to slam it. He fought every muscle in his body to not do anything stupid as he took a deep breath. He struggled to take off his shoes from the burning irritation. He took multiple deep breaths, managing to take off his shoes. What was he doing? Alex was his partner, he can't just shut him out like this. Sky always despised shitty partners, but now he was being one. Clenching his jaw, he walked to his room, not waiting for Alex. Sky hoped that this little bit of time away from Alex would help him calm down a bit. Again, he left his bedroom door a crack open to show that Alex was still welcomed.

Alex wasn't sure what he was expecting. But having Skylar all but shut him out as he stormed inside, wasn't it. He had tensed at the tone, his eyes widening slightly, and then he'd watched, unable to move as Skylar retreated inside. Had he done something wrong? He played over in his mind their interactions, from the time he'd come over to the trip to the store. Then the drive home... Try as he might to figure out what he had done to upset and irritate Skylar as terribly as he seemed to have, he couldn't think of anything. Unless the lack of a 'thank you' had been what started it... Which, considering everything had gone perfectly fine up until that point, seemed highly likely. Swallowing thickly he turned and grabbed the bag of items they'd gotten from the store he closed the door before he moved to head inside. Maybe he should just go, apologize to Skylar, and then leave so that he had time to cool off? It seemed like a good idea, a smart idea, and yet he found himself wanting to stay. Wanting to try and fix whatever it was he had done to fuck things up. Closing the door behind himself, and then slipping his shoes off once he was inside, all the while holding the bag, Alex then began making his way towards the kitchen to set the bag down. As he moved he let his gaze travel down the hall and towards the bedroom door that had been left cracked open.
