Caspian Roku | 493 | Merman | Mentions; Thea Vesper (dir) Open!
Caspian turned from the sky, now looking towards the newcomer. His expression was bored, well.. not bored but more like expressionless with a hint of judgement.

'Pale,'was his first thought. 'Pale... but not too bad looking.'

Caspian wasn't the type to immediately judge by appearance, priding himself also on his ability to not be lured by appearances though the main reason was simply being born a merman instead of a human and even so; Caspian did falter sometimes. It was widely known, at least his most recent falter.

"Caspian," He introduced himself quickly, it would've been rude not to.

"I'm not entirely in the mood to do much more than just chat but.. you might be able to convince me otherwise." Caspian only gave her the chance to see a small, pleasant smile before his expression went back to his usual bored, blank yet judgemental mein.

"How do you prefer to get your... trinkets and jewelry?" Caspian questioned. There was normally no need for Caspian to go out and hunt his own things, being a prince and all. If he didn't want to go get fish himself, he could always just get somebody else to do it for him. That was, of course, if he felt like being lazy and before he had been demoted.

Caspian took a quick glance under the water and spotted her pearly tail. That was simply the only way he could describe it, it was very pretty.

'Siren. She's a siren.' It finally clicked in his brain that he was talking to a siren and not another mermaid. The tail was a bit different from a mermaids, and that was the main tell. Telling a siren apart from a mermaid was like telling a human apart from a mermaid. For a human, obviously they would have legs which made it easy to tell. For a mermaid to find the difference from a siren, the tails looked pretty similar. A mere human would never know the difference.

Caspian never collected the jewelry and general pretty things that other mermaids, or sirens, would collect. He never had the need to have such things, it would take the focus off of his already natural beauty now wouldn't it?

At this point his tail had slowed, and stopped. This was to keep water from splashing onto Thea's face and it was also an involuntary reaction to having a random person pop up in front of him and randomly start chatting. It wasn't entirely unusual for Caspian but since he was outside of Kelso it was a bit odd. He hadn't been expecting anyone, but he had seen the person swim by a bit earlier.

Irwin Llyr | Male | Whale-Shark Merman | M:Open
White spots slowly began to illuminate from Irwin's tail and hair as he made his way down a little further, his eyes give a soft topaz gleam as he slowed his descent, drawing his fingers along the surface of a large rock like cliff, the underside full of larger holes and craters.
°
With a small grunt he hauled himself into one which felt familiar around him, it's walls comforting as they sheltered him from the cooler currents outside, his white spots very gently lighting the crevices on the caves walls as shadows stretched and wavered with his movements. A small bundle of leaf like bedding lined the hole, spread along the floor from other times he had chosen to rest here. Small drawings etched into the rocky wall seemed to greet him as he slipped the satchel off from around himself, laying it down at the back of the far wall as he slowly floated onto the soft bedding, his tail curving a little behind him as he struggled to make himself fit and to be comfortable.
°
On his side, he held one hand beneath his head for support, while the other lay idly in front of him, his hand clenched into a weak semi fist as his yellow gaze concentrated on the caves entrance, watching the shades of blue water shift and change. It had been quite a while since he had stopped here, his countless days of swimming and searching having brought him back to the close reefs of the shore. This place was easily one of Irwin's favourites, from the constant being on edge because of the humans that lingered, to finding countless new treasures to add to his collection. The water's here were mighty warmer than the open ocean, where reef gave out to barren plain nothing but rocks and sand. A small sigh left Irwin's lips as a few tiny bubbles climbed to the ceiling from his lips, following a wide yawn as his sharp canines were flashed, rows of slightly pointed teeth clacking together as he clamped his mouth shut again.
°
'it's been far too long since I was last here. Only took me a few weeks... I should really invest some time into creating more resting spots..' Irwin's brow furrowed as he narrowed his eyes, trying to fight off the urge to take even just the smallest of naps, knowing there was still much awaiting his discovery just beyond the cave.

Thea Vesper | F | 225 | Siren | Mentions: Caspian Roku

‘Caspian? As in the recently denounced Prince Caspian Roku?’

Within her mind, Thea’s conscience grew an almost mischievous smile, contrasting the gentler one on her face. Through various lines of information, Thea had learned not too long ago about a scandal that shook the royal family to its core, furthering the already strained relationship between sirens and mermaids. A rivalry that lasted for eons had salt poured into the wound by this denounced prince’s folly, and while Thea could care less about mermaids and sirens alike, she couldn't help the sweet taste this scandal brought to her lips. Drama. Mistakes. A whole kingdom who lost their faith in its curious prince. How deliciously divine.

“I usually obtain my trinkets through searching various shipwrecks that have happened near my abode. As macabre as the wrecks are, there's something rejuvenating by allowing the various things that remain to live once more, even if their owners no longer do. But sometimes, the islands surrounding us have interesting finds.” A gentle hum sounded in her throat, as if contemplating something that perplexed her. “I've always wondered why such things of disaster draw a crowd. Perhaps because it is dark, the truth of it all. Or, perhaps… There's beauty in the forbidden and taboo.”

A glimmer of intrigue shimmered in those vixen eyes, a hint at her true intentions. “Isn't that right, Prince Caspian?” Thea said his title in a way that was purposely accentuated, as if to remind him once more of his mistake. But on the surface, her tone seemed innocent enough. With each word, she was already threading a web of false comfort and understanding. A feigned look of sheepishness crossed her features, eyes subtly widened. “Or is that inappropriate? I would never dream of offending you, your Majesty. I am just a siren, after all.”

With a few sways of her tail, Thea moved herself up onto the island to sit near Caspian, but kept at least half a foot between them. She tilted her head to the side and grew more curious by the minute. She had so many questions! But it was too soon to ask, far too soon. She was still a stranger to him, unfortunately. Thea smiled sweetly at him. “But you don't care about that, do you? Titles, the differences between our kinds, biases. I admire that about you, Caspian… It’s an attractive quality, truly. There aren't many out in this sea who are willing to be themselves in the face of such adversity. A heavy weight you must carry, poor dear.”

Thea attempted to look sympathetic, and if it wasn't for her centuries of practice, she wouldn't have been able to hide the smirk she was so tempted to flash. “We may be strangers today, but tomorrow could bring something else entirely. I can't imagine the pain this has caused you. Perhaps… for a moment, I could provide comfort. Company, someone to spill your woes to. A nonjudgmental ear.”

Camarie Teria|female|35|human|M: Marcos Prescott
Cam enjoyed the calm warm waters around her as she floated through the waves. It always calmed her, even in her deepest troubles. She took a breath and plunged underwater taking a look around her. She went back up, taking a breath of air. She was about to go back under when she heard her name. She realized Marcos was calling her and she quickly swam to him. "Yes, Marcos? You wanted me?" Cam made sure to keep her tone polite, as she was calmer from swimming and didn't want to ruin the feeling. As she waited for Marcos's reply, she let her barefoot feet sift the sand beneath her. It was a small tic she had when she was nervous but she didn't notice it and it never really bothered her. What did Marcos want? Surely she hadn't been in any trouble by swimming, there wasn't any sign of danger, last time she had checked. Was she supposed to do something? Nobody had told her she had something to do today at this time. Maybe it was something else, but Cam wasn't sure why she was targeted. Maybe Marcos just wanted to talk to her. Or he was asked to get someone and she just happened to be the first he saw. She continued to sift through the sand below her toes as she waited for Marco's reply.

Caspian Roku | 493 | Merman | Mentions; Thea Vesper
Caspian mentally sighed. It was never fun for him when another being, siren or otherwise, found out his last name. It wasn't super hard, the name Caspian wasn't exactly...common. Only about two mermen had the same name as himself and they looked completely different from the former prince.

"It's perfectly fine to call me that, I prefer just Caspian though." Caspian spoke with a polite tone that gave away nothing. His expression had become full on judgement by this point. Though, he was still attempting to keep it concealed just, not as much.

"I'm not sure I have reason to tell a stranger much more than you could have already heard of," Caspian shrugged.

"Speaking of which.. how did you hear of me? I'm aware that sometimes sirens and mermaids gossip while out hunting, but surely what had happened to me isn't worth travelling to the sirens?" Caspian watched Thea carefully, judging the reactions she gave.

"I also didn't think he'd tell the rest of Egen but I could be wrong about that, I don't know too much about your kingdom."

Caspian turned to look out at the ocean, watching the waves crash and finding the beach a little span away. His tail was moving at a slow pace, creating small ripples in the water below him and Thea.

"The new humans, I thought, would've created a distraction at least." Caspian let a bit of new news slip, still pretending like it was normal conversation.

Caspian also enjoyed gossiping, not as much as the rest of Kelso and not exactly the same topics but he still enjoyed spreading news around. New humans on the island could be more prey for the kingdoms to keep their rivalry going, the lull was getting boring.

Naiada|Female Siren|M: humans Cam and Marcus

Knowing the human female was only a few tail whips away from her grasp was enticing. Naiada had been hunting a seal for a few hours. Letting it think she was gone then reappear a mile later. A pod of orcas had passed claiming the hunt for their own. She had wisely backed off. With her spear and a hunting party she could take on one or two. But alone without her weapon of choice. Not a whole pod. The obsidian sirens golden eyes where locked on the female who had almost been her new target. She who had been swimming close to shore not a moment ago before a human male had distracted her prey. The female had swam closer to the human built docks. Leaving the sirens safe range of attack. The huntress normally stayed away from the shores of human civilization. However this was a small ship docking island for humans to rest and go. Just a check point between one city and another. After a disappointing hunt she would take a quick kill even if human tasted disgusting most of the time. 'Didn't they clean themselves?'
A tail built for speed and lethal accuracy in battle frothed the water in quick slash. As the siren shot through the water back to the depths. Not a single ripple could be seen on the surface. The human female would never know how close she had just got to death.

Irwin Llyr | Male | Whale-Shark Merman | M: Open
Golden eyes squinted and gazed around the small rocky cave, his brown tail covered in its dimly glowing white spots curled neatly around his body as he hugged the end of it. "Shit.. did I fall asleep?" He mumbled as he reached his hands up, gently rubbing away the sleep from his eyes as he let out a big yawn, flashing his large fangs and other sharp teeth as he slowly sat up, gauging the surroundings outside the cave entrance.
°
Irwin nodded to himself as he felt around the cave for his satchel, his pupils growing wide as he adjusted to the dark space, finally letting out a triumphant grunt as he latched onto his satchel and pulled it towards himself. Swinging the satchel over his shoulders, he hoisted himself up, squeezing himself out of the all too small hole as he was met by the warm currents once again.
'Alright then. I've travelled here.. here... Scraped by there....'
A long stick dug along the semi hardened sand as he drew a rough map in the ground, trying to figure out where to explore and fill in his hungry curiosity.
'The humans usually tend to fish around here... So perhaps some items might've been dropped here, or here.' Irwin circled around two areas on his map, a wide grin spreading across his features as he turned around, battering the sand with his large tail as he blurred out the map before taking off in a set direction, heading for one of the popular fishing spots.
°
Sunlight continued to shimmer through the surface of the water, its extra warmth inviting, accompanied by a small feathered creature which glided along the surface too. Irwin swam up to the surface, his large fin breaking the water apart like butter as he peered his head up, letting out an annoyed groan as his hair plastered itself over his eyes. Quickly he ran his hand through it, raking it back away from his face as he reached a gentle hand out to the creature as he kept pace with it by its side. "Hi there..! Aren't you interesting.." Irwin cooed as his eyes trailed over it. It had a strange appearance, sure he had seen many around the shores of the island but they didn't usually venture under the water so his encounters had been minimal. This one seemed wary as it flapped it's wings, rising a little further out of reach. "Hey-! It's okay-" Irwin reassured as he slowed his pace dipping his head back down underwater as he rummaged about in his satchel, gripping a thin slice of fish fillet as he resurfaced, holding it out. "Are you hungry?" He asked as he tilted his head, half expecting a response of some kind.
°
The creature flew closer immediately, its beak snapping up the fish meat with next to no hesitation before it let out a rather... Horrible squawk. Irwin flinched away from the sound as he raised an eyebrow. "O...Kayy..." He turned his attention away from it as it flew away, Irwin's gaze rising up to the clouds above. He'd always loved getting to see the surface like this. Bright sun, warm water, watching the clouds as they rolled overhead. His favourite time was always at night, when the stars painted the sky. He had always felt a bit of jealousy towards the humans, since they got to enjoy so many wonderful things in this world.

What a beautiful day. The sun was out, the light glinting off the ocean water in bright flashes, a warm breeze sweeping through the air. The air was filled with the scent of salt, a scent very familiar to Blitz. She sat up in the Crow's Nest with the lookout, Corbyn, sifting through the pile of trinkets and goods she had snagged from their last landfall. It had been a couple of weeks since then, but it was only not that she was organizing it and picking out the things she would keep. Turns out, this haul wasn't as good as she initially thought it would be. Letting out a frustrated sigh through her nose, Blitz tossed another useless hunk of metal behind her. Seriously, who has literal gears, like mechanical gears, in their pocket while walking around a market?
.
"Ugh, there's nothing good here. You'd think that an upscale place would've provided a lot more than junk metal and jake jewelry." She scoffed, holding up a thin 'gold' chain, scrutinizing it with narrowed eyes before tossing it away. Another fake. Ugh. The chain hit the water, twirling and sinking into the water. Nothing she threw overboard would directly harm marine life. Most of what went into the water were metals or wooden objects since plastic held no value anymore due to how widespread it was nowadays.
.
Corbyn shrugged, the young boy fixing his eyes on the landmass in front of them. "You'll have your chance to steal again here." He shot her a slight smile. "Don't let the captain catch you though, or he'll stick you with the deckhands until we take off. Harker knows how much you hate deck duty." Blitz didn't answer, muttering profanities under her breath as she worked.
.
The crew had been sitting in the same spot for hours now, inside the port of what looked like a fishing town, and while that usually didn't bother her, they were anchored right by the island. Right by it, and their captain told them to stay put on the two-masted ship. Harker himself was off talking to the locals about something, most likely trying to secure rooms for them to stay in.
.
"Why're we even here?" Blitz asked. "There's nothing that stands out about this place. It doesn't look rich, and there aren't any whispers about anything super valuable. So why come?"
.
Corbyn shrugged again. "Your guess is as good as mine. It's not like he's offering up any information either." The two fell into silence for the next hour or so. The sun shifted positions, sliding further across the sky. Blitz felt like she would explode if she had to wait even a second more when she heard her and Corbyn's names being yelled from the deck below them. "Captain's calling." The lookout stated obviously, already climbing down the nets that led up to the Nest. Blitz followed a bit more slowly, landing on the deck shortly after him. Her boots made soft thuds against the ship's wooden deck as she made her way over to where her captain stood. Harker was speaking to his first mate and the two deckhands. He turned as he heard them approach, waving away the other members of the crew as he spoke.
"I got us three rooms next to one of the inns. They're small, but nothing like we aren't used to." Three? There were six crew members in total. She'd rather stay on the ship if it meant that she could be alone. As if sensing her thoughts, her captain continued. "River and the deckhands will stay on the ship. You, Corbyn, and I will be on land. We aren't here to cause trouble or stir things up-"
"You haven't even told us why we're here." Blitz sneered. Harker shot her a warning look.
"Keep your head down and don't start issues. We're friendly to these people."
"Yeah, yeah, I understand, blah, blah, blah. Can we go now?" Without waiting for his permission, Blitz shoved her hands in her pockets and strolled down the gangplank to the dock. She looked around briefly, taking everything in. Locals meandered around, going about their day as normal. There were some people spread out on the other docks that jutted out into the waves around them, and even some people swimming around in the water. Blitz quickly looked away, a flash of unease glinting in her eyes. How could someone be so comfortable in the water when they had almost no control? Her gait slipped a bit when she stepped foot onto the dock, the wood well-worn and slightly slippery from the sea's spray.
.
"Let the fun begin," Blitz said to herself, already looking for her next source of entertainment.

Marcos Prescott | 26 | He/Him | Sailor

M: Cam (dir) + Naiada (ind)

Marcos watched Cam dive down into the depths and disappear. Cam had a frequency to do this, swim out and submerge herself in the water. Honestly, Marcos wanted to do the same, but he only had one other pair of clothes which were now in the malice hands of Archie. So yeah, no way he was swimming out there right now. Although, it was such a nice day that he considered venturing out later, maybe at night when he knew he could not sleep.

After what felt like longer than a normal human should be able to hold their breath, Cam reemerged, her hair weighed down by water and either resting on the surface of the sea or obscuring her face. Delaying little, Cam set her sights for the dock Marcos sat on and swam over. Fish and kelp parted as she glided through the mellow waves. However, briefly, for only an instance, Marcos could have sworn something larger darted away from Cam which lay under the water. Marcos did not have long to think on whatever he witnessed as Cam took only a few powerful kicks, paddles, and strides before she arrived. Cam remained in the water, suspending herself above the sea floor with gentle hand rotations and kicks as she looked up at Marcos.

The best thing about Cam, in Marcos’s opinion at least, was that she was straight to the point. If Marcos asked something, she was blunt and gave concise answers to any inquiry. Whereas other sailors of the crew droned on and on just to reply to one offhand comment, Cam was not much for conversation and sometimes that was valuable. Though, for once, Marcos wished to have just started a conversation with a “hi” or “how are you” simply because Archie seemed to think Marcos was all about money and Marcos had been meaning to ask a monetary question for a short while now.

“It’s nothin’ much, just needed to know when we are getting paid and when we are heading out,” Marcos muttered softly, almost embarrassed to ask the question now. “Look, it’s been nice meeting you all, but the thing is, I want to get off this island.” Marcos paused as he shook his head and ran a hand through his hair while his fingers drummed methodically on the wooden dock. “Something ‘bout this place... the water by this place...” just makes me shiver, ya know?” Sighing, Marcos was no longer looking at Cam, just the endlessly open waters beyond her. “I dunno... It just... I am just itching to find a new job for hire and get out of this place, you hear?”
