Eirian Beaudelaire

Outpost Rider | Male | 33 Years Old | Mentions : Sylphiel, Talvi & Koa

The young male took in the silence of the kitchen as he closed his eyes . It was rather quiet and uneventful in the morning ; that was until someone got up and made a meal for the day or were ready to make a patrol. Usually the patrols would be ushered out in order, but there was a rather lack of activity at the Outpost, the past couple weeks - so things were rather relaxed, there few disputes and even then they were far and between, but of course they still happened. And they still busied themselves with maintenance to their humble home and training of course and care for their comrades. He took a deep breath, relaxing his body into the seat slightly, willing himself to attempt to sleep for a little bit . But the notion was disrupted by the quiet steps of of three girls ; judging by the lack of energy and wakefulness it was Sylphiel. And he peeked an eye open to see if his suspicions were correct - he gave a soft chuckle at her comment about her sister. A soft smile creeping on his own features, " Indeed she did, usually I wouldn't be rather upset about it ; but I had a long night and feel I won't be my best if I don't get any sleep soon," he said - a yawn interrupting his words as he stretched his body lazily, " I might take a moment to rest while your sisters go out on patrol , and I haven't seen Koa - so I'll go look for him, need to make sure everyone is doing alright . " he said leaning forward on the table, hair resting on his shoulders slightly and hands relaxed on his face in a pensive manner.

Afterwards he stood up and began pacing, " We also will need to discuss a supply list and when and who will go on the next supply run for the Outpost, " he murmured more or less to himself . And he gave a soft hum before looking at Sylphiel saying, " I guess since we're both up, we can do a maintenance check on the Outpost and see if anything needs to be done repair wise. So as we are doing something productive whilst they're on patrol at least. " he said with a shrug of his shoulders. He then realized what he was wearing and sighed, saying - " And, I'll put on some more appropriate clothing fitting of work . Please enjoy the meal provided, I hope it can give you some substance. And could you save me a bit of tea, I have a feeling I'll need it later on. " the male said with a teasing chuckle before making his way out the kitchen, and to his room .

Entering his room ; he closed the door behind him and began to get himself ready for the day. He traded his nightwear for a white long-sleeved poet's blouse that slightly exposed his chest, a couple beauty marks slightly exposed. And afterwards a pair of black riding pants, with shiny black leather boots to match the whole look. He sat down and took time to polish his boots and lace them neatly, before straightening out his shirt and then a black jacket in case it was a bit cool for outside. He then proceeded to grab his scabbard and tie it around his waist, and then placed his sword within it. He then grabbed a ribbon and tied his hair into a ponytail, and then proceeded to braid the hair down and then wrap it around in a bun - afterwards he used a few pins to keep it in place. He couldn't have his hair getting in the way in a fight. And after making sure his hair was secure - he took a good look at himself and then proceeded to exit his room. He wondered if his other half was up, she probably wasn't at this ungodly hour and he wouldn't dare to bother her either, she needed her beauty rest to stay sharp and she had already been working hard.

As he made his way to the exit, he stopped by the kitchen where Sylphiel most likely still ways and said, " I'm going to do an outside perimeter check, and possibly get some firewood just in case. " he informed her, " Let me know if you see Koa, and if I find him - I'll let you know about it. " he said, and he walked off for a second . He opened a door, leading into the supply room where he got an oil lamp. It was still pretty dark out, the sun hadn't even risen yet. And so he lit the lamp before making his way outside . His steps were light against the floors, he had mastered masking his steps - a little trick he found rather handy to have up his sleeve.

He soon found himself walking outside, the beach was always peaceful in the morning. And it was always lovely to watch the sunrise on the back of a dragon or lounging on the beach. But he needed to do a perimeter check ; and he began doing so. Everything seemed to be in check for the most part, there were not rotting wood or any super back cracks to fix. That's when the chill winds of the morning ocean air greeted him, and he gave a slight shiver at the feeling - the salty smell of the water catching his nose. Causing a small smile to creep on to his features, and he looked out at the distance. He squinted his eyes, he could make out a large form but not who they were - one was obviously a dragon from the large stature , but he couldn't see which one it was. " What in the bloody hell " he murmured to himself as he got closer.

He realized it was Talvi S'naedis , Koa's darling Ice Dragon. And he found himself jogging over towards them. " Koa ? " he said unsure, but was relieved to see the young male there with his dragon. But frowned at the state of him. He squatted down, and looked at the young male, he wasn't looking so good. "You look rough buddy," was what Eirian said, concern lacing his voice as he stuck his free hand out to check for fever, and the male did seem a bit warmer than normal, " not exactly fever, but still warm. " he murmured lowly. He gave a pensive hum , " can you tell me what's bothering you, was it the fish you ate last night ? I told you not to eat that, I was going to throw it out. " he said, his voice very much sounding like a mother scolding her child for their behavior. " I'd prefer you to be inside , where it's nice and warm - and you won't pass out on cold sand without anyone knowing. " Eirian said with a huff as he looked at Koa with a raised brow .

" I am sorry Ms Talvi S'naedis . I just got worried for him. " he said , hoping he didn't offend the dragon by interrupting the two's moment , " I'll take good care of him for you " he said trying to reassure her of his good intentions, And then he turned to Koa, his brows furrowed and sighed before saying , " and you sir are to get some proper food when you can and some mandatory rest for the day. Can't have you dragging on your feet . " he said a bit sternly, but with warmth and care. And stood up to his height and then extended a hand to help the male get up.

Marina West

Apprentice Rider | Female | Dragon: Amhuluk | Mentions: Amhuluk, Adamos, Azar, Kikimora, Nicodemus

Marina braced herself as she felt Amhuluk tense, preparing to take to the skies. The heat was becoming nearly unbearable and the cloth around her face was slowly drying. The heat was almost immediately drove away as Amhuluk took off, the cool night air cooling her burning skin.

The sound of wings behind her echoed off the mountains, more riders and dragons making their escape while they could.

She looked up and noticed how calm the night sky was. It felt so wrong to be up here when so many were down there, fighting a battle that could never be won.

She felt a little better as the moisture returned to Amhuluk's scales, no longer dry and rough.

She looked down at the water dragon as he spoke down the bond. He rarely ever used her real name, preferring his nickname for her, Little Beast. She untied the mask from her face and let go, watching as the fabric was ripped away in the wind, fluttering away and out of sight.

"I'm fine." Marina said as she looked back, the academy no more than a glowing speck in the distance.

She glanced over at Azarimous and Adamos at her side, surprised that Amhuluk chose to stay so close. She didn't look at Adamos's face for too long. She knew Kikimora's rider was his brother, and even if she knew she should be comforting him, she couldn't make herself look at the pain in his face. Maybe it made her a coward, but she couldn't do it.

Koa Revin || Outpost Rider || Bond: Talvi S'naedis || M: Talvi, Eirian, Others (Ind)

His head was raised abruptly as the ice dragon's voice sounded in his mind. It seemed as though she had caught on to his predicament despite his efforts, though it was to be expected. Nothing stayed hidden from Talvi for long. Koa's face broke into an awkward grimace despite there being no creature to see it. He was sure the accompanying embarrassment filtered through the bond. "Sorry. I'm not sure what's wrong with me. Just sore, I think," he attempted to reassure the dragon -- or, rather, himself. He was failing miserably, but he'd tried. At her offer for a ride, Koa tilted his head to contemplate the idea. He still felt a little queasy; eating right now didn't seem wise, but he'd never been one to get airsick. Perhaps the breeze would even help.

He heard rock give way to talons behind him, and Talvi announced herself shortly thereafter. Koa turned to offer her a smile; it was already rather tense, and the scars certainly didn't help with that. With a sigh, he shifted his weight on to his ankles in a squat and twisted his upper body to face her more fully. "Something just feels off, but it --"

Koa's thought was cut short as another figure clambered onto his rocky precipice. Eirian took one look at him and went full mother hen mode, and he couldn't get a word in edgewise. When his friend finally stopped to take a breath, Koa quickly said, "I'm fine, I promise. It probably was the fish... or something. I'll blame the fish; I knew better."

He broke out into a gruesome grin at the mention of mandatory rest, however. It didn't quite reach his eyes, no matter how he willed it to. "Talvi and I were just about to head out on a restful flight. I'll even throw on a cloak if it makes you feel better."

Koa stood and placed a hand on Talvi's strong, sleek frame. "A flight would be good. For your wings, uh, I mean. I'm totally fine," he sent to her. It was a slim chance that Talvi wouldn't see through his false confidence, but maybe he would be better able to pinpoint exactly what was going on during an excursion. They always did tend to clear his head, though the tenseness wouldn't be leaving his body any time soon. If he did manage to properly self-diagnose, perhaps he would hunt down Sorisana. She was always easy to talk to, and she would take him more seriously than Ciliren, who would find some way to use it against him -- in a friendly, jesting way, of course. He could already hear her challenging him to a seafood eating contest; yes, it was best to hide this from the latter triplet.

For a moment, his mind even wandered back to the old, frisky sparring matches he had had with Renzana at the academy before leaving for the outpost. He wondered what she was up to, and what had become of that fearsome venom dragoness she rode. He'd always been extra respectful around Draiochtach, for fear that she'd bite his head off. Koa blinked hard and pushed those thoughts away. Where had they even come from? How long had he been sitting there, daydreaming in front of Eirian and Talvi? Rubbing the back of his neck, he coughed to clear his throat and mumbled, "Sorry about that. Lost my train of thought."

Iris
Female | Mentor Rider | Dragon: Nalukraja | M: Nalukraja. Renzana & Draíochlach. Laika & Xuejiao Tsasanşuurga. Ellis & Viscus.

The two mentors descended towards the squad leaders- Renzana and Draiochlach. They were soon joined by the second mentor pair- Laika and Xuejiao, who Nalukraja seemed quite pleased to see, and even greeted them with a chirp. Iris was quite glad to see the two alive as well. Raj landed on the ground, the ashy, burnt grass flaking when he stepped on it. Following shortly after, Xue had landed as well.

Then, Renzana gave out their orders. Iris could see the visible displeasure pour across Nalukraja's face. She hated the idea of fleeing too, but if they wanted to live, then they'd have to. The thought lingered in the back of her mind- none of her friends were going to make it out of this, those here at the academy and those who are back at home. She wanted to persuade so much, but she just couldn't. The sound of Raj's grinding teeth echoed his irritation at the idea. But when his mate, Xue, spoke to him, he turned to her with an affectionate chuckle before rubbing his nose against her frills before she and Laika left to go find the surviving apprentices.

When the leading two took flight, Nalukraja followed shortly after, with Iris clinging to his back like a tick. She did not want to fall. Her gaze was locked on the ashy, burnt courtyard below, examining where it seemed Nalukraja was also looking. She could see barely anything through the smoke and flames, but sometimes she could see the frames of fallen riders and dragons. It stung to see so many she saw before now gone in such a brutal way.

A nearby cry of dread, followed by Nalukraja making a sudden swearve to dodge Draiochlach's spikes. Iris turned, to catch a glimpse of a familiar dragoness plummeting into the dark smoke below. Iris winced at the sight, knowing how much Draiochlach must be hurting right now. To lose a mate, plus watch them die right in front of you has to be quite difficult. Raj turned to her, with a concerned expression on his face as voice rumbled. But he was right. It probably was best if they didn't approach Draiochlach right now.

In the distance, the frames of a mantid dragon and a very stressed rider caught her attention. The rider waved towards the distant group lead by Xuejiao & Laika, but it didn't look like they noticed her. 'Nalukraja! Over there' Iris said through their bond, pointing towards the duo in front of them.

Viscusvoréntomon
Female | Apprentice Earth Dragon | Rider: Ellis | M: Ellis. Iris & Nalukraja. NPCs. Guāng Huánghòu (Ind). Others (Ind).

Viscusvoréntomon's wings rattled against her body, a display of intimidation and also anxiety. Her rider was nowhere to be seen, and neither was Guāng and her rider. The growing white lights wasn't very encouraging either. Any one of them could be her rider, Ellis. But trying to stay positive, Viscus continued forward, scanning the environment to search for any signs of her rider.

Amongst the smoky sky, Viscus could faintly see Xuejiao Tsasanşuurga flying away from the chaos, with Laika clinging to her back as they continued gathering all the apprentice pairs they could find. Viscus let out a loud roar as the dragons flew past her, unaware of her presence inside the layer of smoke. Viscus hoped when she found Ellis, they were still close enough to help.

Yet she heard a flicker of hope. Ellis replied. Relief washed over Viscus like a river cascading through a rocky trench. Her rider was still alive. 'I'm coming.. to get you.. just.. hang on.. okay..?' Her echoing voice rattled, her gaze turning towards where she presumed was the east. Her four long legs swiftly carrying her towards her rider.

The crying of dying dragons along with a few riders occasionally stung Viscus hard. She wished she could, but she cannot stop to help them. If she did, Ellis would probably die, along with the dragon she tried to save, and maybe even herself. With the growing white lights, the more she was urged to find Ellis before she became one of those lights as well.

A semi-large boulder plummeted from the sky, nearly crushing Viscus's abdomen, but missing by a tail length. Another much smaller boulder, hurled towards Viscus and slammed hard into her shoulder, making a sickening crack echo in her ribcage followed by a screech of agony. Viscus stumbled away from the boulder, managing to remain on her feet despite the pain.

Then she saw the small, distant frame of her rider.

"..Ellis.!."

Viscus cried out, her voice echoing over the distressed calling of dragons. Her legs sped up in a hurry to get to her rider, her visible relief being unable to contain. Her antennae reached, gently and carefully, yet also hurriedly wrapping around Ellis. "-I'm.. sorry to.. grab you.. but.. we have to leav-e-.." She rattled painfully, placing the human on her back while gingerly trying to avoid twisting her injured side.

Before she was able to run, a large flame bursted towards her and Ellis, making her leap away from the raging fire. She could see Nalukraja and Iris flying in their direction, so she called out to the mentors just to ensure they knew of their presence. Now they just had to find Guāng and they would be able to get out of here. In no reality would she ever leave until she knew that Guāng wasn't one of the white lights.

Guāng Huánghòu || Female || 167 || Apprentice Light Dragon || Rider: Adrian || M: Dir – Ardian; Ind – Xuejiao Tsasanşuurga, Laika Herriman, & Fleeing Apprentices

The siamese dragon’s paws pound against the open air as she flies over the courtyard’s premises, her movements graceful and sleek yet not rushed despite the harrowing situation at hand. God rays pool from each and every “step,” illuminating her path across the smoke filled sky. A dead giveaway to any below that happened to look up. Blue eyes survey the ruined ground below, looking for any signs of life or movement – a nigh impossible task due to the large density of smog. Small patches of open grounds did appear between these glowing marks of gray ever so often, allowing to see the desperate scramble of dragons and riders alike to get away from what was once the Academy’s grounds as well as those that met a grim fate. Still, no sign of her rider resided within any of these areas, but it does not dissuade her search. The little “check in” she had with the bond had hinted that he would be around this area, all she needed to do is keep looking.

Circling around the courtyard once more, Guāng passes by the congregation of her fleeing “classmates,” all desperately trying to vacate the scene behind them. Various expressions marked their faces, none pleasant. However, she makes no move to join them. As much disdain as she held for her rider, she wasn’t about to leave without him.

No such luck comes from her second go-around, with less and less individuals being present across the rumbled “field” or alive. Growing irritated with lack of visible results, the feline-colored dragoness shifts to focus once more on that wretched bond of hers – honing in on its ever-present flow in an attempt to pinpoint the location of the curly haired boy. It takes a good few minutes for her to get a good hold on the thing, as though she were wrangling some sort of squirmy prey (not that she’d get her paws dirty like that, but still), and even longer to finally get a tiny hint at where he was now located. The tree-line opposite her present direction.

With a sneer she curses him under her breath, enraged by the very prospect that he went to any area without light while being the rider of a light dragon. One that required its presence to fly no less. In her mind, it was outrageous that he would do such a thing. An incompetent thing. Who in their right mind-

She has no time to finish the thought, the approaching of blazing flames catching her gaze from the corner of her eye. A burning boulder rushed towards her, its fire casting more and more of its orange hue the closer it grew. With a roar of alarm, she just barely manages to dive down enough to avoid getting struck in the side. But that did not stop the flames from singeing some of the cream fur along her back, turning it into a hideous scorched black.

The female’s eyes narrow as they take in the sight of that small patch of fur, a threatening roar emanating from her jaws and cutting across the area. They’re going to pay for ruining my fur, those pieces of sh-

Another forcefully sent message from Adrian halts her outraged spiral, putting a pin in her motion to charge those that dared taint her astonishing image. An update on his location (though the image he attempted to send her way did not filter into her mind). A growl emanates from her at his words but she does not send it through the bond. Reluctantly, she pushes aside her desire to try and wreak havoc on the attackers and turns towards his direction. It would have been nothing but futile anyway but oh would she have enjoyed her last moments.

Diving down to the forest’s edge she cuts off her flight, landing effortlessly on the ground with little hindrance. Before her was a wide-ish trail leading into the woods, the perfect path to take. A seamless transition it was from flying to running, her motions barely even having a stutter between shifting from one to the next. She followed the boy’s scent the rest of the way to his location – not bother to poke the bond any further than she had. It was “tarnished” slightly by the lingering whiff of smoke but still recognizable.

Huánghòu’s steps slow as she comes across an open clearing. Her smaller form pushes through the brush surrounding it, pulling the rest of her elongated body with it. The annoyance of a rider in question was leaning up against a rock within the clear – his eyes shut and chest expanding and falling with each breath. If not for his recent message, she would have thought him asleep.

A soft snarl rolls off her tongue not a moment later, her right lip lifting to show off her longer-than-usual top fang. Her growl dies down the second his eyes meet hers’ though her displeased expression remains. Taking a few more steps forth she places herself fully in front of him – her shoulders being directly in front of his form.

“I’d suggest you hop on and make yourself useful before I deem myself done with you. I got my fur singed for your sorry ass, so be grateful I even came. And don’t keep me waiting, boy. I won’t hesitate to leave without you.”

Nalukraja || Mentor Dragon || Psyche || Bond: Iris || M: Iris, Ellis, Viscus, Gūang, Ardian

The male growled an acknowledgement as Iris pointed out the earth dragon and her rider. He clenched his jaw and tilted downwards, weaving among the raining boulders and evading fiery darts. Viscus's call confirmed that they had been seen, and Raj sent back one of his own. As one of the buildings caved in on itself, a splatter of painful pellets sprayed down on him, causing a slight deviation as he spread out his wings and turned sideways to keep them from hitting Iris. They stung, but moreso in the same way as bacon grease spitting up onto bare skin rather than being stoned.

With a less-than-smooth landing, Nalukraja stumbled alongside the green dragon. His pale gaze surveyed the damage with a quick sweep; it seemed as though Viscus had been hit a little harder than the others, but she was still standing, which was a relief. Raj wasted no time in getting right to the point. "Are you able to glide? Run? If the pain is too great, I can block it for you, but it will not heal anything -- it'll only buy you time to move quickly."

His tone was brisk and, if he did say so himself, impressively level despite the conundrum they found themselves in. Raj looked around them to survey the scene once more; they were still missing the light dragon and her young rider. He asked, "Have you noticed Gūang or Ardian? Once we find them, we can follow the others."

Viscus would blend in easily if they had to move through the trees, but if she could take to the skies, that would make Raj's life easier. However, he wasn't opposed to a jaunt in the woods. The light dragon wouldn't hide so easily.

"Ah, never mind. Found her," he mused, looking up at the pools of light in the sky. Raj released a short, sharp roar to Gūang, raising a few feet into the air in an effort to see where exactly she was. The dragoness must have landed; he couldn't find her form immediately. "If you can move easily enough, Viscusvoréntomon, we'll go to her. Otherwise, we'll get you into the tree cover first and then find her afterwards. This place is caving in."

Ardian Cantacuzene | Male | 18 | Apprentice Rider | Dragon: Guang Hunagho | M: Guang, Maximillian (ind.)

Ardian felt something like a small tug in the back of his mind. The bond. He sat up quickly against the boulder and scoured the tiny bit of open sky that was visible through the forrest canopy. There was no sign of Guang, but the sudden tautness of her bond with Ardian had to mean that she was somewhere nearby.
More dragons flew over the forest, fleeing from the chaos back at the Academy. Some were obviously injured, flying erratically or with limited use of their wings. It made Ardian cringe to think what could injure so many dragons, of all creatures, so severely.
Ardian's heart suddenly skipped a beat, thudding painfully against his ribs. He gasped and clutched at his chest; fate wouldn't be so cruel as to allow him to survive the massacre at the school only to kill him with a heart attack, alone in the deep, dark woods.

When his pulse had slowed enough for him to finally get his bearings, he found that physically, he was fine. The pain in his chest had dissipated and his heart rate was slowly returning to normal. It must have been Guang, he thought with a spike of anxiety. He felt fine now, and he hoped that that meant that Guang was all right as well. But what if she wasn't? How on earth was he supposed to get out of these woods and away from the ruins of the Academy by himself?

The echoe of pounding footsteps shook Ardian out of his reverie. He shoved himself to his feet; was it whoever had attacked the Academy, trailing after the straggling survivors to finish them off and ensure that there were no witnesses? He'd lost his sword in the original blast, and his choice of weaponry was limited to a few sticks scattered at his feet. He snatched one from the ground nonetheless, gripping it with both shaky hands.

Guang burst suddenly into the clearing, her fur badly singed and a snarl wrought across her face. Ardian could have sobbed with relief; he dropped his stick-sword suddenly, not wanting to make himself look like more of a fool than he already had.

He didn't even bother with a retort to Guang's icy comment, instead scrambling silently onto the dragon's back. The first few times he and Guang had flown together, he had been apprehensive to climb onto her shoulders, fearful that her delicate frame wouldn't be able to support them in the air. He needn't have worried, though; Guang's small body was deceptively strong, and she had never had any problems carrying him.

Ardian wriggled himself into a comfortable position behind Guang's shoulderblades, twining his fingers into the mane running along her spine. Unlike many of the other dragons at the school, Guang lacked horns or spikes, which most of the other apprentice riders used to hold on to while flying with their dragons. The soft fur of her mane worked well enough for this purpose, though.

Ardian leaned forward hesitantly. "Thank you, Guang." He paused. "Have- have you seen Max, or Desdemonus, or heard anything about them? I saw my brother right before the explosion, but I lost track of him in the chaos, and-" He stopped himself abruptly. He refused to entertain the possibility of Max being injured, or worse. He couldn't stomach the idea of him back at the Academy, hurt and afraid with no one around who was able or willing to help him. He exhaled quickly through his nose. "I'm guessing you probably haven't. I'm sure it's been disorderly for you as well."

Ardian changed the topic deftly, unwilling to think about his brother's fate any longer. "Do you know where we're headed? I've seen almost everyone else - well, everyone who survived - leaving, but I have no clue where they're fleeing to."

Adamos Strange
Rookie Rider | Male | Dragon: Azarimous | Mentions: Azar, Nico & Mora [NPCs], Others

At first, the young man's mind was a whirl of emotion, different feelings trying to take hold over his mind. Grief was most prominent, the loss of his older brother and his dragon, but anger followed quickly after. It simmered under his skin, seething in his blood at the audacity this unknown foe had to take his family from him. He refused to let his mind be ruled by emotions though, and he shoved them down, locking thema way in a void that lurked in the deepest recesses of his being.

He features smoothed over, the agony terrorizing the handsome features replaced by a cold stillness. He fisted his hands, and bent his head for a moment as he worked to hollow out his heart so it know longer squeezed with pain. They would pay for what they did to his brother. But for now, he needed to get away.

He held on as Azarimous and the rest of the team took off, and he leaned forward a bit, letting his palm press against Azar's neck. He let his anxiety pulse through the bond, and then spoke to his dragon through their link so no one could over hear the conversation.

"It might be selfish, but... I don't want to talk to anyone about what happened," he knew others would probably come to him, try to seek to comfort him and offer him sympathy but he didn't want it. "Nicodemus and Kikimora died as warriors, I will mourn them in my own way. I have an unfair request of you," he paused as he thought of how to put the request into proper words. "I need you to keep anyone who might want to talk about what happened away from me. I can talk about the attack, but I don't want to talk about Nico. I won't prevent Draio from talking about Kikimora, that was her mate, but I don't want to talk about Nicodemus. Not right now. Not any time soon." Maybe it was denial talking, as speaking the words aloud meant excepting his brother was truly gone, but Adamos was similar to his half-brother. He didn't want to express his feelings to anyone, he didn't want to show weakness, and he didn't want pity. If he did want to talk, he'd seek someone out on his own to do so.

He then paused and looked at the side of Azarimous' head. Adamos wasn't a very... affectionate being, but he felt the need to express gratitude for Azarimous. But he didn't know what words would express what he felt. So he simply just let those feelings of gratitude and relief of having the dragon with him transfer through the bond. Sometimes, the best words were the unspoken ones.

Laban Thayer || Male || 18 || Apprentice Rider || Dragon: Esen || M: Esen, Desmodus (Ind), Fleeing Group (Ind)

Laban braces himself against the dragoness’ back she takes in a deep breath, his form leaning closer to hers in anticipation for her next more – an attempt to not hinder any of her movements or cause any sort of drag. His arms encircle her neck ever so slightly more, ensuring that his grip was secure – even if he felt deep down that she wouldn’t prepare to fly if it weren’t. Timed seems to slow down as he waited for the leap to come, as though it too were anticipating her movement. Her movements came slow to his eyes as well, her muscles moving against his grasp as she prepared herself for this moment.

With a harsh burst of air they’re off, so fast that he could barely register the shift if not for the sudden change to the wind around him. Esen’s body weaved through the currents in a serpentine fashion, propelling them further in the sky. A pattern he had grown slightly used to by now over their few flights together. The boy’s grip tightens in response to the mighty launch but remains soft enough to prevent any sort of choking. His vivid green eyes screw themselves closed at the initial burst of air and his head presses against the top of the dragon’s neck – right between it and her shoulders – in an attempt to prevent damage to his eyes from the battering winds coming pressing down upon them.

Air bent and twisted around the two in an attempt to keep him seated, a sort of extra cushioning for his body. However, it did not prevent the lashing winds around them from striking his wounded side – its pain flaring up to an uncomfortable degree as though his breath had been stolen by the passing currents. His teeth grit at its flare, eyelids crunching downwards eve further as his arms draw in closer to the air dragon’s form. An impossible to hear hiss comes from between his closed jaw in tandem with this. It wasn’t until Esen had leveled out her flight path did the pain release its violent grip on his lungs.

Smokey air filtered in through his nostrils as he finally found himself able to breath without hindrance once more, an annoyance to his already irritated lungs but not a major one. Their distance from the fall “fortress” provided some relief – lessening the ashen quality of the oxygen around – but it was not void of the substance. His eyes blink open a few seconds after the decrease of pounding gales, looking around the desolate sky. What would have once been a beautiful array of twinkling lights was now a void of darkness, the flames below eating away at the star’s birthright. A somber scene it was, flying away from what was once considered a safe haven for those that resided within its walls, leaving behind the desperate and forgotten. The living and deceased… The boy prayed that those left would find comfort from the things witnessed today and loved ones lost.

Words from the bluebell female broke the white haired boy from his thoughts, his eyes meeting her own purple orbs as she looked back at him. An apology for not thinking of the fragility of his kind and agitating his wound during the start of the flight, something he assumed she took note of through the bond if his actions were not enough of a giveaway themselves. With a slightly strained and small smile, he moves one of his arms to pat her side twice. A sign that she was forgiven, not that he held any grievances anyway. He’d much rather have an angry wound than be amongst those declared deceased.

A huff sounds from the sky-blue dragon right afterwards, a noise that stirred a slight bout of confusion in the young Thayer lad. His head tilts to the side just a smidge as he goes to question her, only to pause and watch the wondrous performance before him. A spiraling sphere of air accumulated around them, pushing away the smog lingered around their forms. Breathing became a much more comfortable chore afterwards, the air quality now significantly improved thanks to his companion. A smile across his face. ‘Thank you, Esen,’ he says across the bond.

Taking a few seconds to gather this fresh air for himself, the inexperienced rider tries his best to reposition himself on the sky dragon’s back without igniting the burning ache along his side – moving from his lying position into a sitting one, with his legs on either side of the dragoness. His eyes look towards Esen for a short period of time to determine if she was alright with the change before shifting his focus to the airspace ahead. It was almost impossible to see anything past the distant-growing flames, but every so often managed to make out a figure of a dragon or two crossing over the stars. Quite possibly more, given the various locations he could see them in. Survivors. Thank God, is all that can run through his mind as his body relaxes to a miniscule degree.

He doesn’t pick up on his blue painted companion slowing amidst his thoughts which here promptly cut off with a single but short “say.” Laban’s vivid green eyes look back towards his dragon, attention solely on her as she speaks. It was a request, a simple one: keep an eye out for a “huge bat.” Easy enough, so long as this so-called “bat” flew close enough. Though, he couldn’t help but feel intrigued by this particular topic but doesn’t ask any questions of his own.

The boy nods his head at her request only to realize that she couldn’t presently see it, her head now turned forward once more. A blush lightly brushes his cheeks in embarrassment. A quiet ‘Of course’ rings through to bond on his end to accept the “quest” granted to him. Leaning forwards slightly he places his hands on her shoulders, between the feathers, and looks about the area for the “giant bat.” Whomever that would be.
