Its all about how they are raised, trained, treated, and socialized. Any dog can be wonderful, and any one of them can be a terror. I was attacked by a pitbull back in 2020 and most likely would have been seriously injured if my dog hadnt stepped in and threw him off and pinned him down. I still love bully breeds, and dont blame that dog, it was his owner who was a headcase.
Its not fair how so many people hate on these dogs. They are wonderful, and they have such sweet smiles.

Ive been talking with APBT breeders/enthusiasts and it turns out that the reason why pitbulls are considered dangerous are that people are breeding their pets and ignoring the fact that their dog may not be breeding stock. Unstable dogs are being bred and producing more and more, and people who dont know better are buying them. Combined with poor training or treatment you get a dangerous dog. Any breed can be dangerous, its not fair to say only one breed, or only one group of breeds are.

hi, im a dog trainer and have worked with dogs for six years. Pitbulls, and i mean /real/ pitbulls, the american pitbull terrier, are bred to be dog aggressive and are 100% predispositioned to have dog and human agression. now, this doesnt mean they all are, as every dog is different, but there is statistical facts that pitbulls/ pit mixes are going to be at a higher risk for dog and human aggression. the way they are raised does play a role in this but not a significant one. i love pities and mixes but hounds are going to bay, herders are going to nip and pit type dogs may be aggressive and thats ok. the real issue is uneducated owners buying pitbulls and doing zero socialization, zero training, and zero work with their dog, an untrained unsocialized dog is going to be a problem, regardless of the breed. to add to this pit mixes are vastly over bred, the more breeding and less health testing the more unstable the dog will be. there is many factors that go into this arguement, long story short the original american pitbull terrier was bred to be aggressive and that will always play a part in the pitty breed/mixes. ( i have an american stafford terrier)

As a great friend of mine in the horse industry once told me, You don't breed crazy, even if the horse (or in this case dog) is the perfect conformation for your breed.

A few years ago, one of my relatives brought over a "bully" breed that he had recently adopted from a shelter. I think she hadn't had the best life before Bryce came along. My cousins and siblings were all crowding her trying to pet her, so she was already on edge. I walked into the room to ask my mom a question after my siblings left and for some reason she got super freaked out. She started chasing me around the house, barking and snapping at me. Thankfully, Bryce got her into another room and helped me calm down. I never really blamed Gracie, I blamed my sibling and cousins they freaked her out to begin with.
However, I have always been uncomfortable aoround dogs since as long as I could remember. A year before that incident I would scream and cry when my great-grandpa's dog, who was only a foot at the shoulder, would try and jump on me. Around that time I made a concious decision to expose myself more towards dogs so I could be comfortable around them. That incident with Gracie took away a lot of that progress and while I recently babysitted a huge dog who would jump on me from time to time, I am still always on edge when a big dog enters the room.
Finally, thank you to all the people working to clear bully dog misconceptions. I don't support them but I do support people who have pitbulls and rottweilers and see past their potential aggresive natures.

I honestly think pitbulls are some of the cutest dogs around, insanely loyal too. It's only their reputations in dog fights that make them so feared. It's not even their fault too. Almost all the time, it's just nutty breeders greedy for money.

Genetics also play a huge role in temperament. Apbt( American pitbull terrier) are DA(dog aggressive) and can't be housed with other dogs alone. Pitbull mixes are a different story tho. Most are just big puppies compared to real pitbull who need to have a job💖

I dont consider dogs to be sweet or evil, its all abo0ut their breeding and how the owners raise them. sort of like kids actuall,y they can be anything depending on the raising

But i understand your point

True APBT and even AST are predisposed to DA because they were BRED for it for their sport. AST are less likely nowadays to have the predisposition because AKC tries to hide their "dirty" past and the DA is now considered more of a fault now.

Also, it's not all in how their raised, trained or treated. There is genetic AND environmental factors. My AST is very well trained and raised well. Once she hit maturity, she became DA. Which is a known thing in dogs: personalities can change at maturity. Lots of dogs also become SSA (Same Sex Aggressive) at maturity when previously they were fine with same sex dogs.

it is true that there are far too many BYB (backyard breeders) who are not testing their dogs to make sure they are breeding stock worthy. That includes proper OFA (or equivalent for outside of the US countries) health testing, conformation and temperament testing. Then there's whelping and puppy culture once stock is all tested and bred. There's so much that should go into breeding and BYBs are ruining everything. A proper breeder would always take their dog back before allowing it to go to a shelter. I would say at least 95% of proper ethical breeders would never make a profit off breeding dogs simply because of the amount of work that goes into choosing, testing and whelping dogs.

Bully breeds get it the worst as they seem to be the chosen "big man" "tough" dogs.

And then there's also the "nanny dog" myth that is ruining things by having too many parents allowing dogs and children to mix dangerously. I.e. kids hanging off of dogs and intruding in dogs space despite numerous warning signs that the dog is uncomfortable. Then they wonder why kids get bitten. And it gets blamed on the breed when in reality, it'd happen with any dog. It's common with small breeds like chihuahua's who have an aggressive breed connotation when in really, people are just taunting these poor little dogs, ignoring their warnings and invading their space. The only way they get heard is by snapping and biting.

*sorry for the long winded comment* I'm a little passionate about this
