I haven't heard the name "Wolves of the Beyond" in years-
that made me a wolfaboo for the longest time and i cringe

I hated it lol. I was raised on Julie of the Wolves and Julie's Wolf Pack, so when I read Wolves of Beyond it was just too freaky for me.

I went back to it and Ga'Hoole a few years ago and that writing just wasn't as good as i remember it?? Faolon was a Mary Sue because he always did what was right, and killed a cougar as a yearling, and everyone either loved or hated him because they were conveniently evil.
My favorite wolf story is White Fang just because of how flow-y the writing is and how it (mostly) has accurate wolf behavior

I really liked Call of the Wild by Jack London. White Fang was good too but Buck was just such a sweet protagonist. I cry everytime.

Faolon being a Mary Sue never particularly bothered younger me, but it sure bothers current me.

I also never really cared about the realism of the animal novels I would read. But the cougar thing was just... no.

Ooh, I have a heron shifter but I've never used her in rps. I've always seen wolf shifters though, at least three in every shifter rp unless theres a rule of everyone being different

The Call of the Wild made me so sad when all the dogs fell through the ice. that's the one scene that's always stuck with me-

i mean it also ties into wolves being the most commonly liked animal,, and i don't like shifter RP's but if i ever hosted one i'd literally make a rule for no wolf shifters
