... Tried to get back into art for a little bit. I'm not happy with my art. I'm not sure why, but it just never turns out the way I want it to. I figured it was because I haven't found a style I'm content with so I experimented with different styles (especially for the eyes). Omg, hi Iruna! :0 always a joy to see your gallery pop up. I really enjoy all of these eye styles actually! I'd love to know which one you're currently leaning towards if any.

I'd probably do a mix of them. Right now, I'm trying to imitate how other artists do their eyes, but not all of them give tutorials, so it's a trial-and-error process. I do, however, have an idea of what I want my finalized style to be, and that's something with a sketchy feel to it while maintaining a soft color scheme, if that makes sense? . I've tried cel shading etc but it never felt right to me. It always felt constraining in a way, and the more I try to do it, the more frustrated I grow. |

"... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Spent more time on the lines than coloring. I wanted to actually color it but then got tired partway and lasso'd in some colors just to say I colored it. Some lines are awkward but I think it came together decently well and I might go back sometime in the future to actually do it properly. I may do some colored sketch pieces like these if there's any interest. The image is of my character, Mielle, an orphaned girl raised by the clergy. She desperately wishes to experience something fantastical, like the fairy tales she read growing up. So, when someone who fits the bill of "Prince Charming" comes by, she's obsessed. Unknowingly, she is just a background character or an extra in their story. This leads to Mielle's growing frustration. She is unable to understand why the pieces do not fall in place despite her devotion and why she is unable to achieve one of the few things she truly wants. Thus, leading her to redirect her frustration at her faith and eventually be manipulated and deceived by Kaelar -- an immortal vampire who had been toying with her since the beginning. There were meant to be a few interpretations to this image:
- Mielle is blissfully ignorant of what the apple means. She believes it to be unique and different than everything else (hence why the apple is the only thing properly shaded and colored in bold reds) and delicately admires it
- She does know what the apple is and chooses to hold it anyway since she believes she can have it all (continue her life while pursuing a romantic relationship despite her background). The use of two hands was meant to be a sign of possession. While she could've simply used one, she doesn't want the apple to escape from her grasp

. . Some more experimenting in this style. This time I blocked the colors off with a flat brush so that the character wouldn't be impacted by the background before going over it with some textured brushes. I liked the process of this one and how simple and efficient it was. Might make a tutorial about how to achieve lighting effects without muddying the image Edited at June 7, 2025 07:56 AM by Iruna |
