So, Sol has schizophrenia, he's killed someone before, no way around it (their power, which involves interacting with the dead, does not help anything). You'll figure out eventually, so I may as well tell you now, whilst in the middle of a major episode, Sol killed their father (who he loved very much. It was a total accident, they had no control of their mind at that point) which got them put into a mental hospital (that place was fucking terrible, super abusive and shit), which is where he met Kano.
To be clear, Sol was being medicated while in the mental hospital (foracibly, it was very traumatic) and basically dropped all meds once they got out (also thanks to Kano). The two grew very close very quickly, but they are the least fucking healthy people for each other. Like, God, it's bad when they're together.
Kano pushes Sol's buttons, Kano pushes Sol's. In the origional timeline, Kano takes it a step too far by victim blaming and accusing Sol while they're already in the midst of an episode. Sol kills them. Then, remember how I mentioned Sol's power involving the afterlife? Yeah, Kano comes back and torments them there. Fun, right?!
This timeline is different because of two things, one, Sol's actually getting help (yay!), so, even though Kano's still a bitch (not victim blaming for the killing thing though, Sol's not innocent-), Sol's a little more stable and able to avoid a total break and, two, I wanted to play Kano here, so I couldn't just kill them off, lol

Vida: "Hey, Z, everytime I come see you, you've got more gray hairs. What's got ya so stressed out?"
Zakai: "Why- HAVE YOU SEEN WHO I'M LIVING WITH RIGHT NOW?!? THIS GROUP TRIPLES MY ANXIETY LEVELS JUST BY BEING AROUND THEM! AND YOU'RE ASKING WHY I'D BE FUCKING STRESSED?!"
Zakai, 2 seconds later: "JACKIE, PUT DOWN THE FUCKING KNIFE RIGHT NOW, YOU'RE GONNA GET HURT!"

Sol would roll their eyes affectionately at Cal, just like with all the other overly energetic, lovable idiots in his life (aka Jackie) and bake them a cake
And then they'd turn around and knit Phoebe a sweater as an offering to say that he thinks she's really cool and they should be friends
