Flux de Angelis | Cook / Inventor | Mentions: Dallas, Shai (dir.) Yutaka (indir.)

A short snort of laughter came from the back of Flux’s throat. “Weird robotic thing.” He huffed out before shaking his head. “You should really know more about the tech we use, Toffie.” If Dallas was going to use silly names for him then he would give it back in return. Well, at least his name for Dallas was a little sentimental. When they had first encountered each other, Flux had been making desserts as a welcoming gift to himself and the crew to take him on board. Even if Vas was a little…cagey about his arrival, they soon warmed up to each other.

He had made toffees and other assorted sweets, but Dallas had been practically glued to that tray of toffees. That and his hair was a rather similar shade to those caramelised toffees. Flux still made them every so often, always poking fun as Dallas when he served them.

“We’re getting weird robotic things. For that arm I’m tinkering with, I need a polar connection system inlet, if you really want to know. I think Yutaka is going, we might bump into him, but I doubt he’ll notice us. He gets tunnel visioned at the trade post, too much tech to look at.” Flux gave a small snicker to his own comment just as Shai slipped up beside him and wriggled an arm around his own, drawing his eyes down to Shai instead of the intense look he had been giving Dallas.

“I need someone to fly me there on a dragon, sometimes those beasts are helpful. But I can’t be bothered having my own, too much chance for being flung into walls and the like.” Flux peeked over at Dallas, smirking before moving his other hand to clasp onto Shai’s forearm.

“The more merrier, I say.” With that he flashed a wide grin, cocking his head to the side. “What d’ya say, Toffie? Come and have some fun or hide from Vas for the rest of the day.” Flux couldn’t help adding on that last part and the emphasis on the name, he knew once Vas had settled whatever chaos he was dealing with he’d hunt down Dallas. Muttering about how he had slipped away, refusing treatment. Flux had quickly learned that he never wanted to cross Vas, even in the lightest of situations. He was very obedient to whatever Vas said, maybe it was a smidge of fear but for the most part it was respect. Maybe more fear than he would like to admit.

Dallas | Boatswain | M: Flux (indir: Shai, Yutaka, Vas)

~

Dallas groaned, tilting his head back against the wall. Toffie. He should’ve never let Flux get away with that nickname. But, truth be told, he didn’t actually hate it—not that he’d admit that under pain of death. Every time Flux called him that, it stirred something in his chest, something warm and nostalgic, something that reminded him of that first day, of sticky caramel and soft laughter, of a moment where things felt simple.

Not that things were ever simple.

His foot tapped faster against the floor. "I do know tech," he grumbled, shooting Flux a glare that had no real heat. "I just don’t care about the fancy names. Polar connection system inlet? Sounds like an overcomplicated way to say 'thing that makes the arm work.'” His eyes flicked down, watching the way Flux’s fingers curled around Shai’s arm. He wasn’t jealous exactly—jealousy was stupid, childish—but something in his stomach tightened anyway. He shoved the feeling down, ignoring the way it curled into something bitter at the edges.

Yutaka. Trade post. Shopping. Distractions. That’s what this was. A trap laid out in the open, wrapped up in a grin and easy laughter.

Flux was good at this. Dallas could see what he was doing, how he was dangling the choice in front of him like a goddamn candy bar, making it just tempting enough that Dallas would have to be a complete idiot not to take it.

And, well. Maybe he was an idiot.

"I don’t hide from Vas," Dallas muttered, though they both knew that was a lie. Vas would absolutely come after him the second he was done with whatever hellfire he was putting out. And when Vas was determined, Dallas had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting away unscathed.

His nails scraped at the wall again, just to keep his hands busy. He shouldn’t go. He knew he shouldn’t. He had things to fix, walls to patch, and if he went with Flux, it was just going to make everything worse. Because spending time with him, being close to him, being reminded of how damn easy it was to fall into step with him—it was all dangerous.

But Flux was still looking at him, expectant, that goddamn smirk playing at his lips. Dallas could already hear the teasing if he said no, the inevitable mock disappointment Flux would lay on thick, the smug little ‘guess you really are scared of Vas’ he’d throw in just to get under his skin.

And that? That, Dallas couldn’t allow.

He clicked his tongue, letting out a sharp breath. "Fine." He rolled his shoulders, pushing off the wall like the decision hadn’t been eating him alive for the last few minutes. "But only ‘cause someone’s gotta keep you from getting scammed into buying some shiny piece of junk." He pointed at Flux, narrowing his eyes. "And if you try to shove anything weird into my arms and tell me it’s a gift, I will throw it at your head."

Even as he said it, even as he pretended like this was an inconvenience, the truth sat heavy in his chest.

He wanted to go. He wanted to go so bad it almost hurt.

Makovu | Weaponsmith | M: Eh

-

Makovu jolted awake, leaning his head back against Nyota. "Do I have to?" He asked, brushing his blue hair out of his face before opening his eyes.

The deck was.... eh. In Makovu's opinion, the deck was the most bland part of the hub (Ship? Hub? which is itt). He had no interest in sitting there all day sharpening the lousy blade that still rested on his chest.

He sighed, picking up the blade, testing the sharpness on his palm by gently but firmly. A small stream of blood trickled down his wrist. "Well, at least it works." He said with a sigh, wiping his wrist with a small cloth.

He wrapped the cloth around his palm, making a makeshift bandage. He looked at Nyota. "What're we going to do now? We're at the blandest part of the ship babysitting the other dragons and haven't eaten at all today." He grumbled, pushing his glasses back up his nose as he scratched Nyota's neck.

Vasilios | Medic | Mentioned: Shai, Ava [Direct]
The medic let out a short, sharp exhale, reminding himself to at least try to be calm. It was late, he was tired and more things kept stacking onto his plate. With his short, efficient destress ritual over, he looked back over to Shai, expression softening.

"Yer right, yer right. You're never the one causing me problems, Shai." he admitted, apologetically. "If only everyone could be like ya, eh?" He joked, an amiable smile tugging at the edge of his lips.

Staring at the unconscious woman in front of him, he nodded along to Shai's observations. It was a good starting point at least and seemed to be relatively accurate. For a moment he almost found himself wondering if Shai should hang around more often - it'd probably make his life easier.
"Thank you, Shai." He called after him, albeit distractedly.

Back to rummaging through the cupboards but this time for activated charcoal, he was acutely surprised to hear the unknown woman speak up. Straightening up, a few bottles in his arms, he turned back to her.
"Alright- alright- slow down." He answered, softly, understanding her concern and distress, waking up to a room full of strangers whenever possible.

"My name is Vasilios, I'm a doctor," he explained, slowly "We're in the lower quadrant of Stellaris Draconia. I'm not sure who 'Cassy' is but we can definitely find her together once we've made sure you're alright."

Vasilios paused, noting the smudge by her lips and a distinctly familiar smell when she opened her mouth. "Annd once you tell me what you've eaten." He added.

Urchin | Dragon with zero braincells | Mentioned: Tiamet, Cassiopeia [Direct], Meliora [Indirect]
The spiny creature flopped her head backwards as she heard the familiar sound of Meliora's wingbeats - clearly the other dragon was off to find something else to do. An interesting harmony of clatters and bumps always followed that dragon around, though Urchin could never see exactly what she was doing, it was always interesting.

With that, her attention was turned back to Cassiopeia and Tiamet. Unfortunately for Cassy, she'd just waved at the two dragons who were undoubtably incapable of seeing what she'd just done. Urchin's lack of eyes and the lack of noise the wave meant resulted in her being completely unaware at the attempted greeting. She could hear the relaxed exhales from the new dragon though, and considered her not a threat.

A nudge from Tiamet was far more obvious, though. The luminescent markings scattered over her scaly form glowed and buzzed in excitement. Unfortunately, her various spines would also raise in this excitement, which would likely result in Tiamet receiving a jab or two from Urchin.

Tail waving back and forth, it was time to say her favourite word: "Hiiiiiii!" she chirped, resisting the urge to bounce up and down.

Shai Mentions: Dir-Flux, Dallas; Indir-Ambrose
~

Apparently Flux was a master at mind games. Who knew huh? Well points to him because he just managed to successfully get Dallas to agree to an outing. Shai must learn the ways of manipulation if it works this well. Maybe he’ll ask around for pointers.

~

Shai just smiled at Dallas’s words and nodded along until he got the chance to worm his other arm around Dallas’s. He nudged them both to start walking down the hall before he remembered that Flux brought up the topic of dragons. “I can drag Ambrose along with us, he’s more than big enough to carry everyone, unless you want to bring Java along too?” Shai directed his question to Dallas. “More dragons might be helpful with carrying anything back, ourselves included”.

~

Two dragons would be helpful. Ambrose could be an asshole while flying and purposely take turns harder than they needed to be. It also meant that he could shove Flux and Dallas together to fix whatever it is they have going on because Shai was not poking that bear with a ten foot stick. He was an instigator, not stupid. And poking that would definitely qualify as stupid.

~

“So what’s the shopping plan?” Shai bumped both men with his head as he asked. “Are we splitting up once we get to the trade post and meeting up at a specific time? Or are we all sticking together like sardines?”

Flux de Angelis | Cook / Inventor | Mentions: Dallas, Shai (dir.)

Flux did not even try to conceal his snort of laughter as Dallas claimed he wasn’t hiding from Vas, he was clearly hiding from Vas. He spared the smallest glance down as he felt another arm join the one already attached to him, turning to look at Dallas only when he spoke again. A broad grin plastered across his face at the victory, he hadn’t been actively trying to worm his way into Dallas’s head to get him to come along but apparently whatever he had said had worked.

“Brilliant.” He chimed, just as Shai began to tug him along to start their walk to the top deck. He twisted his head over his shoulder to look at Dallas, still grinning. “If I want to shove any bio-tech into you, it will be expensive stuff and worth having you try to throw it at me.”

With a light hum, Flux turned his head back to face ahead as they walked towards the stairwell. “Ambrose would work perfectly fine, most of what I need is small. Unless you plan on bringing back something giant that is.” His head dipped to look at Shai, raising an eyebrow in suspicion as to what the other man needed to pick up from the trading hub.

While they were there, he wanted to collect some other little tidbits as well. Maybe a new shirt, or jacket, he always ran a little cold. There was a chance the grocer had some exotic stuff in that he could play around with in the kitchen, that was always fun. Either the crew were delighted at the new flavours or were outright disgusted, both were fun reactions to watch.

“Sardines, I reckon. Otherwise I’ll end up losin’ you and Dallas and have to wander the streets trying to find you both.” Flux rolled his eyes lightly, a small huff of air coming from him. “That and where is the fun in shopping alone?”

Tiamat | Mentions: Urchin, Cassiopeia (dir.)

Her nose scrunched up as spiky flexed her scales and sent the spikes raising up, they poked into her flesh and she withdrew her head with a short huff of annoyance. Shaking her boxy maw to dislodge the spine that was poking out from the side of her muzzle, the thing went clattering to the floor after a good few shakes. It didn’t to anything to Tiamat other than a tingling feeling that vanished almost as quickly as it had come.

Tiamat took a small look over her shoulder to look towards the blobby form of the new dragon, flaring her nostrils as she tried to place the scent. She hadn’t encountered this one before, which was unsettling. Anything new was unsettling.

Her eyes widened in surprise at the sound that came from beside her, arching her huge head around to look as best she could at the black void once again. It was talking to her. Tiamat curved her neck to lean down towards her, cocking it to the side, fanned tail tip flicking.

“Hello.” Her voice huffed out in a blow of air from her nostrils, bright blue eyes doing their best to try and perceive the creature in front of her. The slitted pupils expanding and retracting, trying their damndest to focus despite the bleary vision. That was the thing with space, not a lot of water just floating around in the void.

Dallas | Boatswain | M: Flux, Shai (indir: Ambrose

~

Dallas could feel the triumphant air around Flux as the man basked in the quiet victory of getting him to agree. It was subtle, but it was there - a little too smug, a little too satisfied, and it made something in Dallas tighten. If there was one thing he couldn’t stand, it was being manipulated so easily, even if he knew Flux hadn’t been trying to do that.

It didn’t matter. He was already in it now, wasn’t he? And there was no turning back.

He shifted his weight as Shai wormed his arm around his, the motion automatic, like it was nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing to see here. But damn it, his heart was pounding, and he knew exactly why. Flux’s grin hadn’t left his face.

Then, the mention of dragons brought him back to reality, and the air around him lightened, even if just for a moment.

“Ambrose is... alright,” Dallas muttered, thinking about the dragon with a small shake of his head. Asshole was an understatement when it came to flying with Ambrose. But even if the beast had a habit of making sudden turns just to mess with his riders, he was still an excellent choice for hauling everyone.

He ran a hand through his hair, the nervous tension creeping back in as his eyes flickered between the two. “I’ll bring Java,” he said with a reluctant grin, trying to shrug off the weird, gnawing feeling of wanting to do anything but that. Java was more dependable than most, and honestly, he would need her for the ride back with whatever crap they decided to bring back from the trade post. And, hopefully, with his own dragon under him, he wouldn’t have to deal with too many surprises in the air - or, more accurately, as many as he would have had with Ambrose.

The idea of flying together should’ve been comforting, but somehow it just felt like a further step into the weird space Flux occupied in his mind.

“Let’s just get there, alright?” He muttered, rubbing his hands together as if trying to chase off the discomfort.

Shai’s question about the shopping plan made him momentarily forget about Flux’s lingering presence. A slight laugh escaped him as he glanced back over at the two of them.

“Alright, sardines it is.” He smirked, but only just enough to hide the nervousness still twisting in his gut. “As long as no one drags me into the weird corners of the trade post where you find... questionable stuff. I don’t want to end up with another ‘gift’.” He shot Flux a look, a teasing but pointed one. "One of those bizarre things you call gifts might just get thrown at you after all. I don't care how much it costs, you get a new scarf made of sheet metal."

It was a mix of playful frustration and a deeper, far too real desire to just spend more time with Flux. Even if it meant dealing with all the weirdness that came with it.

Yutaka - Engineer - Mention(s): Quillus, Vasilios, Ava (ind: Shai)

~

Quill didn’t need to tell him how to do his job, but Yutaka nodded anyway. He’d have a look at the pumps and pistons driving them once he came back - and Cap didn’t need to know the report he’d begun writing in his head.

Well, unless it was really serious. Then he’d need to write the report, all proper-proper like, and send it to be attached in the ship’s logs.

So, he was now Yutaka the grocery-man, apparently. Not that he cared - it made sense for what purpose he was doing. The ship didn’t need any more water or condensate, and Flux had given no indication that he’d needed more food or cooking stuff - whatever he did in the kitchen was still beyond Yutaka.

“I’ll check the dynamic pumps. We should have some spare in the store-room." Read: he'd find it in about five seconds if he just looked at the catalogue he'd meticulously pulled together.

Which left Vasilios and the million and five things that he’d probably need.

Nodding farewell at the captain, he backtracked and stuck his head into the medbay. It seemed infinitely more calmer and serene than it had when he'd passed it earlier - more of a freaking medbay, not an emergency hospital or whatnot. God forbid, they probably actually needed a hospital on this hub anyway.

"Vas?" Yutaka looked around and spotted him bent over a patient. An unfamiliar one, too. That was a rarity. Maybe it was linked to the thud they'd all heard earlier?

Whatever. What he wanted to do right now was just figure out what he'd need to get on this shopping trip and he'd figure out the rest later. He had priorities, after all, and someone unknown on the ship in the medbay... actually was a bit more of a priority than he thought it was. But it could be handled later.

"I'm off to the trading post to grab a couple of things. Cap'n asked me to ask you if you need anything for your - uh... stash... of medicine." What did he call it? What was he supposed to call it? A heap? A store? A pharmacy?

Well, "stash" worked. Whatever the word was - he wasn't too big in social niceties.

"Go there and get everything in one straight run. So basically I'm off to get groceries." He pulled a face before turning back to Vas.
