I want to write doing a sword fight again against the earth mage dude and her getting pinned under rubble and being unconscious or something and Isa saves her

Them having to sneak to the armory to grab the weapons they're good at. I can see them dividing themselves into two groups as well: the ones more experienced in fighting can be a distraction so the second group can reach the dragons to get a ride out of there. Not to mention the chance for Isa to save Gene from a collapsed pillar or something and says things like, "I'm only doing this because no one else is worthy to be my rival."

I like option 2 more, considering it gives the riders more chance to know about each other, form relationships/affiliations, and the sense of urgency of them needing to grab whatever gear. During the attack, I can see that some have to sneak past the attackers since they're defenseless at the moment, adds that tension, you know.

I do like the idea of an Explosion. Plus some of the dragons could leave the Rookery [idk what i called it actually] to search for their riders. The entrance could have caved in so the dragons will have to claw their way out to while not really knowing whats going on, but they know their riders are in danger [those who care at least].

That is also true.
While Sky is panicking because she doesn't want her dragon to be hurt, Ao comes out trying to find out if Isa did it |

So, I believe I have everything all formed out so both could work: A few minutes before the ceremony, a small glimpse of what they're daily life is like and everyone growing excited about the ceremony. Joy and thrills all around, the clear skies overhead and the sun beaming ever-so brightly. A festival could've been hosted to celebrate the new riders. It's the day of the ceremony and the newly elected dragon riders are practicing riding their dragons. Everything seemed to be going well, but unbeknownst to everyone, they were hooded figures lurking in the crowd. A few riders can notice them but are unsure what they fully saw considering they're too busy trying to stay on the dragons. (I can see them feeling angry/upset/guilty of not noticing them or telling about them sooner) The day seemed normal, the new riders attending their classes with their newly or old acquainted friends/foes. Learning the basics about dragon rider, combat, etc. The new dragon riders hung out somewhere to celebrate their new life and partied for a bit before returning to their dorm rooms to sleep. When the night came, one of the dorm room buildings exploded (with some of the squad members being in that building). |
