zombies only fear water. Being caught on fire will have no effect because they can't feel or process pain. Fire is only useful if its powerful enough to burn the brain and fully eradicate the virus. Basically, if you covered a zombie in gasoline then lit it, it would eventually die. Until the brain is hit, the zombie will continue to chase its target.
