Well, I'm not the best drawer but I've seen realistic drawings of dogs and they use small and thin single lined strokes. Look this up in google and you'll see what I mean: dog drawings realistic or fur drawings realistic

Also if it is in color I suggest using different shades of that color still using the tip above
