🌊Ylva 🌊

"Eel-va."

Name meaning: She-wolf, female wolf

Age: 200 or so years

Gender: Female

Class: Water

Appearance:

It would be quite difficult for one to attempt to describe such a creature as Ylva to someone else who has not seen her before. It would be easiest to begin with her body shape. A smaller beast at the size of _, drawn out in a long scaled coated body, Ylva is rather unique in her appearance. Her longer chest is supported by plenty of ribs in order to protect her massive lungs and wider chest cavity; this ribcage custom built for long periods of breathless underwater travel. (Despite how it appears, she is unable to respire aquatically but can hold her breath for hours at a time.) However, she remains somewhat slender in appearance with her movement elegant in the way she places her feet and moves across land. Ylva has a strong, medium length neck that raises carefully above her body - not quite short but decent in proportion to her body and matching long tail. Her shoulders display their blades clearly, attaching the wing's membrane from there to her forked front feet.

On the other hand, she has some quite unique features. Her 'whiskers' above her eyes and on the edge of her snout would be one such example. Another would be the iridescent membrane of her wings in sunlight. Quite unusual but very beautiful in the mysterious dragon way.

Stormy ocean grey, large plates (like pangolin!) scales that appear more colourful in sunlight as they are mostly colourless (with the grey appearance)

Almost ferret or otter-like in shape - long with shorter proportions to her legs in particular (though not really considered 'short' more of a medium length)

Flattened shaped head with a blunt, yet wide maw and symmetrical sets of lots of pearly white teeth (she loves to keep herself clean and pretty) She also has icy blue eyes and a set of 'whiskers' above them, as well as on the sides of her cheeks. Her ears are quite beautiful actually, relatively large and butterfly shaped, blending in with the seven largest head spikes that are vastly colourful in water and mimic the coral structures. However above sea they are also a greyish tone.

Her wings have the unusual ability to 'retract' into a smaller area by her arm's side and return to their position outstretched much like a bat's, connected to her arms. She is able to fly well, being able to force her smaller bodyweight up into the air and into flight. Equally, she can dive down deep by retracting, or outstretching within water to control her speed more accurately. These wings are mostly made of water its self, and are very delicate. However they can heal rapidly in the presence of water. They are iridescent, catching sunlight and throwing it out in many colours.

Her tail is long and pointed but has no significant use besides assisting in travel. Her feet however are very dexterous (despite her longer claws - which assist in paddling in water) and quite narrow.

Ylva is somewhat childish for a dragon of her age, and vastly undignified in the usual way of dragons. Her only purpose seems only to be for her own pure delight, and her determination to entertain herself endlessly.

There's a distinct possessiveness to Ylva that can be annoying to many. She has a frustrating tendency to cling to few individuals, guarding them even from empty threats. She also has an interest in material possessions: gold, silver, pearls and the other metals associated with dragons of old. Perhaps this is a place of admiration for this Dragon, but to the more modern ones... Well perhaps she is just materialistic after all. Either way she's got a good nose for treasure, which could probably help in a financial bind.

Abilities:

Incredible swimming abilities - as a water Dragon, she is obviously a swimmer. Her skill extends beyond the regular ability of other oceanic creatures - she's able swim jetlined, cutting through the ocean with her wing's membranes neatly tucked away at her arms' side. She can jump high above the waves, launching herself into the air and extending her wings in order to glide off the wind currents.

Detecting vibrations in the water - her long 'whiskers' or 'antenna' (though neither are quite an accurate description), help her to investigate the murky underwater contents of the ocean. Her eyesight is less than brilliant down in the shadowy depths, so this ability serves her well in catching fishy prey and navigation down below.

Excellent healing - As with all dragons, Ylva has incredible healing abilities and similar perfect health. Water is quite a significant component to her as a being, and boosts her energy and wellbeing simply by existing in the air as moisture. While she can manage for a short time without this, she will soon loose her composure and collapse.

The Siren - Sure, Ylva has no obvious weaponry ability... aside from the commonplace ones among Dragonkind. She'd undoubtedly be able to knock any man flying and rip through every obstacle with either tooth or claw as per her preference. However her's is rather unique. She has mastered a range of vocal sounds and created one so powerful she can impose her will over another's. A sort of 'siren'-song, she can control her prey's movement, thoughts and even to an extent feelings though she rarely takes full use of this ability. It requires her entire concentration, a ton of energy and her own overwhelming feeling of necessity. It would take an equally unique being to resist this ability, but remains possible.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

✦ A fully fledged water dragon, Ylva does well in (nearly) anything aqueous. She swims magnificently, even better than she flies. Jetting through currents is her greatest skill, but also honing the ability to float on the water surface - undisturbed by any ocean's aggressive rage. Her grace in the water can rarely be matched by any other creature.

✦ Ylva is an intuitive creature, interested in working through puzzles and engaging in strategy. She's content most when there is something to occupy her brain with, even something small and trivial. She takes particular interest in the many species she shares her space with: everything from the miniscule krill she has to heavily squint to see, to the magnificent blue whales of whom she spends part of her days playing in the oceans.

✧ Her scales are far from strong. They do a decent enough job at keeping her protected from some force, but are more build to support her boyant properties and are lightweight for flying rather than armour-like protection. Of course they are unbelievably strong in comparison to any human attempt at 'armour' but much lesser in strength compared to some of her fellow Dragons.

✧ A slightly older Dragon, Ylva has seen a fair amount of the world in her time. Still, she's young compared to some of the dragons she's met. And some of what she's seen has scared her. Ylva does not cope well with too much talk of emotions, or any kind of related vulnerability. She'd much prefer a more practical way of cheering others up than excessive talking. (Although she does love a bit of gossip from time to time.)
