an only child, both her mother and father are now deceased. raised by her grandmother, a haggard old mare that ayakai will often write to.
she daydreams of having children of her own one day, but alas, she is not yet ready to have foals of her own.

her physical appearance will be added later on.
her human half is often donned in a particular top. it's a bluish-gray sleeveless jacket with multiple pockets, both inside and out of the fabric, atop a white undershirt. the outer pockets are decorated with small orange butterflies that she painted on herself.
strewn over her horse half is a pair of white bags connected by a single piece of leather, which wraps along her stomach and loops up to her waist, much like a belt. those same orange butterflies are painted onto the leather.

a very shy individual, ayakai is thoughtful and rather quiet. she prefers to think things through before acting and hates conflict. she loves to discover new things and is often caught wandering away during the night to explore. because of her curious nature, she often collects things she finds special and hoards them in her satchel.
she's quite the romantic. at least, that's what she thinks. in reality, she is actually quite easily flustered when flirted with and will almost always deny her feelings or run away. she's very gentle and loves to help the wounded, soothing one with a calming voice and steady hand.
despite her head always being in the clouds, she can get pretty focused on the little things and can become obsessed with them, which her responses increase tenfold. she has been described as a bit of a coward, as she doesn't enjoy conflict or violence, and will begin to cry if confronted.

ayakai's mother was a beautiful mare; tall, lithe, and graceful. she knew her beauty outweighed all the other mares in the village, and she made sure everyone knew it. that is, until one day, she decided to flaunt her looks to the wrong centaur. ayakai's mother, who was heavily pregnant at the time, happened upon a shriveled, wizened old mare, hunched at the back and haggard in appearance.
her mother decided that she would make the older mare jealous; after all, it made her feel good about herself. so, she began to trot merrily in front of her, flicking her tail to and fro. this annoyed the haggard mare. she drew herself to her full height and waved her hands, bluish-green sparks flying from her fingertips. the mare was a practicer of the dark arts, a witch if you will.
the younger mare realized her grave mistake, and as she turned to gallop away, the sparks that were aimed for her heart struck the side of her stomach, leaving a large, strange mark that wouldn't wash away.
everyone noticed this small flaw of ayakai's mother, and they instantly knew it was from a witch's curse. several months later, ayakai emerged from the womb and her strange coat coloration made everyone afraid. alas, despite ayakai surviving, her mother perished not long after.
stricken with grief, her father succumbed to death, his broken heart finally killing him. when ayakai was only two, she was left in the care of her grandmother, a strict older mare. despite being quite harsh sometimes, she loved ayakai dearly and would do anything to keep her safe. when ayakai moved kingdoms, she never knew that she would become a servant of the royal family.

he is a loyal guard of his majesties
he wishes to be king, even though he knows that's not how it works... but he can dream, right?
none of these mares deserve his "good looks" and "fantastic personality", as he will put it. although, that could change with time...
he has no mate at the time, and perhaps it's for the better. after all, he needs to fix himself before focusing on someone else.
he has two mothers, one being his biological mother. his father is now deceased. he has four other siblings, all of whom he is now out of contact with.
he scoffs at the idea of having children of his own.

aurelien is a tall young stallion, reaching a staggering height of 6'6. his torso is a sturdy rectangle, with a few sweet curves to his forearms. his fingers are skinny, and several callouses dot his palms. he has very little muscle
his face shape is that of an oval, with a softer jawline and low cheekbones. his skin tone is a light cream with warmer undertones, like the golden rays of the sun. flecks of dark freckles are scattered in no particular pattern across his shoulders and nose. his hooded, powdery blue eyes are speckled with darker hues, reminding one of the summer skies. they're framed with light lashes and crowned with thin and slightly arched eyebrows. his lips are bow-shaped and are a light peachy color, and are almost always pursed in thought.
a curly mop of dirty blonde hair reaches just below his earlobes, messily styled as if he ran his fingers through his hair once and decided it looked decent. a single curl falls in his face and to the right, and it never lays down flat.
his clothes are very calm, with muted colors, usually on the cooler side of the spectrum. he usually wears a dark blue pinstripe shirt, a simple silver chain hung around his neck (which occasionally gets tucked into his shirt), and a golden ring that's engraved with runes sits upon his right hand.

aurelien is a quiet soul. he's a true neutral, preferring to do whatever he feels without much influence from others around him. he's very expressive in both his actions and his facial movements, and this can cause him to be unapproachable, as some assume him to be eccentric. if someone were to talk to him, however, he tends to be snarky, smug, and sarcastic.
he seems to never be able to find the right words and often becomes embarrassed when he stutters (as he does when he's nervous) and tends to "shut down" and become reclusive, and most often than not, respond to said embarrassment by reacting aggressively towards the nearest person or the object of his embarrassment. however, he'll eventually come out of this mood and will continue as if nothing happened.
aurelien prefers the quiet stillness of his thoughts to the conversations of others, but won't hesitate to come out of his daydreams to discuss things he finds important (or to insult the intelligence of someone he assumes to be "inferior" to himself). he has been described as a deep thinker, and will often drift off in thought, even during intense situations. because of this, his body will often go on autopilot, moving and doing things without his full consciousness.
he has an iron will and won't allow any to pull him from the path he treks, often shutting them out if they say something he does not want to hear, much to their dislike. he often goes out of his way to say the things on his mind, as he finds it better to be painfully honest than be a "wimp".
he believes he is right and will stand by his decisions 'til the very end. some have described him as stubborn, and they may very well be correct. if someone pushes back, he'll list all of the ways they're wrong without holding back, perhaps even throwing in a couple of insults about their intelligence along the way.
despite his quiet and somewhat rude demeanor, he has retained his almost innocent wonder about certain things from his childhood. this can distract him at the worst of times, causing his brain to hop from one train of thought to the next with no hesitation. he finds nature, specifically avian creatures, fascinating. in his free time, he can be found catching small birds and humanely studying them (ie drawing them and trying to map out their anatomy just by looking at them), watching butterflies flit to and fro, and convincing bats to swoop closer overhead by tossing dead crickets into the air.

when aurelien was quite young, his father passed away. however, this didn't really affect aurelien, as they weren't particularly close. however, aurelien's mother (mirabelle), was woefully overworked, and couldn't financially and emotionally handle taking care of four children by herself. so, she hired a maid, named risette.
aurelien grew close with risette, thinking of the older mare to be something like a second mother (girldad, if you will). strangely, it didn't come as a surprise to him when he learned that his mother proposed to risette, and she officially became his mother.
as he grew older, he began to grow closer to the royal family, eventually going into guard training. now, all he does all day, every day, is follow some stupid group of princes and princesses around. boring.
