Tate could feel his eyes on her before she saw them, looking up then quickly away. She could feel her cheeks burning, even in the dimly lit room. "Honestly, I was wondering if my father had ever held a bird as beautiful as Aero." She hummed, watching as the bird shifted again- before hoping onto Rians's guard- their arms brushing in the action. She cleared her throat, watching as Aero flapped his wings again and then soared off with little help from Rian. She couldn't help but watch as the large animal flew through the building and back onto its perch. "He would have loved to see this. He loved animals." She added, following after Rian as he made his way to the window.

However what had her heart beating harder was the view from here. You could see so much more, Tate instantly getting captivated by the beauty of it all. "I see why you'd love to escape here. It's peaceful." She whispered in response to him, turning her eyes to find his. "Im happy to know you trusted me enough with your space." She added, a small smile following. "Just know Rian, I will try everything in my power to help you rule this Kingdom. So your not alone in this." She sighed, placing a small hand ontop his arm. Her own thoughts mirroring his own. After all, he had grown up into this life yet Tate was thrown into it.

After a while she removed her hand from his arm, her own orbs flicking back to the outside world. "I would love to paint this." She mumbled, sharing a part of her that little people knew. Nervously she shifted onto her feet, "The pond- This place. I want to capture these moments." And it was true, the way she wished she could capture this moment and live in it forever was more that she wished anything in this life. "My father used to bring me back paints from the town, I used them to paint the silliest of things like apples in a tree, or a wild horse we found in a field one time." Tate was smiling to herself at the memory, her eyes threatening to gloss over. "He always made sure I was taken care of, which is why I think him and your father made this arrangement...He wanted to make sure that no matter what his little girl was taken care of.." And part of her knew that Rian would do just that. Not that her father could have known that but only hoped. But it also had Tate wondering if maybe the King didn't remember her father because he was always yo busy learning his future roll.

Rian smiled at her response as to what she had been thinking about. It wasn’t necessarily the answer she gave that made him smile though -as that was more fond for her-, but it was the fact that he knew what she was thinking now. Rian was used to settling for just analyzing people and making guesses as to what was on their mind, but in Tate’s case… the young King just wanted to know. He wasn’t sure why, other than that there were unspoken stories and omitted words he could see just by looking at her eyes. That could be attributed to just how intuitive and observant Rian is, but that didn’t give him closure as to what was fully going on in her head. But it made sense now -she was thinking about her own father. “Then perhaps one day we’ll find a way to honor both your father and his kindred spirit for animals.” Rian replied, but quite honestly, he was more comfortable honoring a kind-hearted man he had no recollection of versus honoring a mediocre King he knew too well.

The tower is peaceful; the epitome of it in Rian’s perspective. It felt nice to share that kind of understanding with someone though for the young man that was accustomed to being so reserved. Turning his silver eyes back down to Tate as she spoke again, a warmer smile was what he offered the woman. And as she continued, and placed a gentle hand atop his arm, the King’s gaze fell to where her hand was. He should have tensed at contact, like he usually did by another human being's touch, but he didn’t. Moving his gaze back up to find hers, he began speaking in a quieter tone. “It terrifies me that I trust your word so much, but for whatever reason, I have a feeling you’ll be the Queen Adarlan has direly needed for years now, Tate.” Rian replied honestly, but he wasn’t going to conceal his fear of trust. Both in general, and when it came to ruling alongside someone. However, he trusted Tate enough to know her own upbringing may have given her an advantage that any other noble or high c;ass citizens lacked; empathy, humanity, and inner strength. Tate had all of those things from what Rian could observe from her, which was exactly everything a true Queen needed to have.

As her hand left his arm, Rian cleared his throat as his hands buried themselves in the pockets of his coat. He then allowed his gaze to move back to the view the tower provided as Tate spoke. Painting? It made Rian smile though, being artsy seemed like a quality that fit well with Tate. He admired those that could capture the world on canvas though. And now that he knew Tate had a passion for painting, then he had a few ideas of how to cater to that passion. Plus, he wouldn’t have to fret much about finding the perfect gift to acquire for Tate post-wedding… he already had an idea of how to spoil her. Shifting his gaze to her as she began to recount the sillier things she had once painted, Rian lightly chuckled while listening to Tate -as well as watching the memories washing over her. “Silly or not, I’m sure your paintings were lovely.” He complimented, before going silent as she spoke again.

Well… the arrangement made sense on Tate’s father's behalf; he was a man who wanted only the best for his daughter. However, Rian’s expression was failing to express any fondness. Rather, the brunette’s brows furrowed in thought, and his lips pressed tightly together in concerned thought. What did her father have, give up, or do for mine that granted him the luxury of wedding his daughter to me? Tate’s father must have had something the former King wanted in exchange for such a mighty arrangement to have been agreed upon. The former King could have leveraged Rian’s hand with any neighboring kingdom as a vantage for power, could have forged an alliance with another larger kingdom, or more. So what did her father have that the former King wanted so badly he was willing to sign over his strongest playing card? Now Rian was desperate and determined to know.

Realizing he had gone deathly silent while being lost in thought, Rian shook himself from his thoughts as his eyes focused back on Tate. “I think your father was honorable for going to the lengths he did to ensure his daughter would be well off in life, and for both of your sake’s, I swear to honor your father’s wishes then. Come hell or high water Tate, I’ll ensure you’re well taken care of.” Rian smiled, taking a step in the direction of the door with his eyes still tethered to her. “And my first act as your new sworn caretaker is to make sure you get a proper breakfast… I hear it’s an important meal, and I’m sure one your father would appreciate you having.” Rian chuckled, inching closer to the door to coax her into following. Hopefully Tate understood what she was getting into with Rian having sworn himself to her though, because the young man certainly took everything he swore on to heart.

Even now Tate could see herself growing used to the idea of marrying Rian, even though his father had simply murdered her own. But it wasn't his fault now was it? No. The young King had said many times over that he had to met her father- though now standing beside him she wished he did. Because she knew that the King had never been a good father but seeing the look on Rian's face when he began thinking of his own. "And I know you have no reason to trust that- but I do hope I can be more helpful then a burden. I wasn't raised here in the castle, I know it's people but...What has me scared are the men on your council who do not agree with having a non-noble blood Queen." She sighed, expressing her concern. "But I do thank you for believing in me. That means more then you know." She added- watching as another bird flew by the window. Letting the peace fall between them, She laughed lightly with him as he complimented her painting- "Im not so sure I'd go so far as saying they were lovely" She mused, shaking her head as she recalled the oddly shaped painting that day. She had just begun the art, but still her father had encouraged her on- setting the painting on-top the counter the day they had gotten home.

Again lost in her own thoughts she had almost forgotten she was standing next to the King, until he shifted and returned his gaze to her, those silver orbs burning holes into her. Another smile falling upon her features as he spoke again- his tone holding a serious note in it. And Tate believed him- regardless of the time she had known him. When it came to reading people, Tate was always right. And from where she stood, both of the boys that were raised in the palace needed some kind of peace. Maybe even love. "Thank you Rian." She blushed, turning away quickly to hid the tinge of pink staining her cheeks. But when he began to move away toward the door, silver eyes still on her she turned back toward him- following after him with a chuckle, "My father would know I'm very capable of finding my own breakfast should I be hungry enough. But yes, Lets go before I starve." She teased, scrunching her freckled nose at him.

Again, Tate took her time to enjoy the scene on the way back to the castle. Her thoughts jumbled between future plans for the wedding and how she was going to prepare to become Queen. The next few days would be nothing fun, in fact borderline boring as she would see it. Nonetheless Tate knew that the information she would need wouldn't come on a silver platter in fact she'd have to work harder then she ever did to prove herself to the People of Ardarlan. She was silent the whole walk back, once entering the palace grounds again she looked toward Rian, biting her lip in a nervous manner before speaking again- "I had a great time this morning. I hope we can arrange something like that again soon." She smiled though knew that Rian had already probably put those walls up again, something she caught onto rather quickly as soon as they were around watchful eyes again.

Rian, of course, has always desired to see the best in people. But just as surely as there was good in each and every person, there was bad as well. The young King knew it to be true even in his own case; Rian strived to be a good man, but he never thought of himself as comparable to a humbled holyman. As much as he wished to just see Tate for what he saw now -a kind, beautiful young woman-... he couldn’t help but fear discovering what other side, or sides, to Tate existed. As she spoke though, her words managed to work a hold over Rian that soothed some of his fears though. His sterling gaze fixated on her eyes as she spoke though. Have those flecks of blue always existed among the pools of green that are her eyes? It wasn’t until she sighed that Rian focused more back onto what she was saying, although he had comprehended it all. “It’s true, people expect to embrace the tradition of a more noble-blood Queen to rule. And as unfortunate as it is, the men on the council will not be thrilled to see someone of your upbringing ascending to power… but I believe in change.” Rian replied, pausing before allowing himself to speak again.

“My belief is a difficult and rare thing to have bestowed upon anyone, but I’d like to think you're well deserving. All I ask is that you believe and trust me just as much -we’ll at least need that between us if we want to survive enduring the next few days.” Or the next few weeks, months even. Rian knew this wasn’t a situation that would find resolve in a mere matter of days, but he was desperately trying to be optimistic. He’s heard his pessimism is a rather unsavory characteristic, so he figured it was best to keep those thoughts to himself. His steely orbs briefly flickered back outside, towards the vast sea of serene woodland imagery. Although he did grin to himself as she countered his compliment. “Well, you might not go so far as to call them lovely, but the way I imagine those paintings… they were the epitome of unparalleled majesty.” Rian spoke, his tone only playfully mocking. The brunette often had to put a lot of emphasis in his tone when he was making jokes with others though, as he’s often so serious, it usually comes across as belittling or sarcastic.

He was confident he saw a rosy tint briefly settle over her cheeks after offering her thanks, but Rian wouldn’t comment. Although her next reply did make him quirk a brow of inquisition in her direction before he chuckled and shook his head. She was humorous, and Rian enjoyed that. But he was too technical to upkeep playful exchanges… what if she finds him boring? That wasn’t exactly a comfortable thought for Rian, nor had it been an insecurity until this very moment. But it would just be another addition to the multitude of things he would overthink later. The King remained just as silent amid the walk back, but he was also settling back into the mold he’d made for himself when in constant view; his previously relaxed stature evolved into one of rigid discipline, his expression neutral to not allow his thoughts or emotions to taint his reflection of poise. Once the pair had officially begun strolling along the palace grounds, Rian briefly switched his gaze to Tate as she spoke, giving a smile far fainter than the ones he had previously shared with her. “I did as well, and I sincerely hope to arrange another outing with you soon.” Rian moved his sights forward again, mentally criticizing himself before resorting to his strictly formal demeanor with Tate. It simply felt too unnatural to be anything otherwise though -as sad as that was to be in his own home.

Once entering the palace again, Rian further led the two of them to the dining hall. It was still starkly early in the morning, despite the time both he and Tate spent at the tower. However, the usual bustle of various working individuals was already deep set in motion. Rian opened the doors, stepping to the side to allow Tate to fully enter first though before he closed them. Similar to dinner the night before; food lined the table, and Spencer was already seated and eating. At least the prince was seated in a space that wasn’t an instant irritation to Rian though, so the young King continued in the direction of his own seat. It wasn’t unusual either to see Spencer already sporting his silver chest plate -tattered a bit and faintly stained from his various battles and more knightly affairs. “Good morning Spencer,” Rian greeted, “training early this morning?” Rian further asked as he sat, Spencer only gazing at Rian in scrutiny.

The blonde moved his cerulean gaze off of Rian after a few silent seconds, his eyes settling on Tate, and a friendlier smile gracing his features. “Morning Tate,” Spencer greeted, disregarding his brother entirely. Although Spencer did overlook the articles of clothing Tate was wearing this morning, and while it wasn’t his mother’s, the color she chose to wear was still irritating. “Hm, paying your respects today? How conformist of you.” Spencer commented, quite unable to not say the things that first come to mind. “In any case Tate, at least you wear it well.” The prince shrugged, further eating the pastries that decorated his plate. It made little sense to Spencer for someone to dislike someone, yet honor them openly, regardless of whether it was genuine or not.

Rian was agitated for sure, but he’d rather be ignored than be engaged in a petty squabble this early in the morning. However, Rian was disliking that Tate was his brother’s focus. And while he wouldn’t comment or make his dislike of that aware -yet- Rian simply began to eat while trying not to glance too often in Tate’s direction.

Tate only hummed in response, her eyes flickering between the courtyard and Rian. The promise of another outing soon the only thing that kept her smile there upon entering the castle again. And as suspected everyone inside was busy moving about doing chores and sweeping the grounds on their Knightly duties. Entering the dining hall was almost deja vu- the younger prince already seated at the table. Looking like a knight in slightly shining armor. Tate watched the interaction or what lacked of one pass between them, before sitting herself at the table. Spencer efficiently ignoring his brother's conversation. Tate internally debating on calling him out for it but deciding it was best to leave the drama between brothers between just them. Though she felt uncomfortable in that moment, shifting in her seat. "Morning." She replied quietly as she plucked a piece of bacon onto her plate followed by two waffles. Her stomach grumbling when the aroma hit her nose.

At the compliment she nearly choked, or was it a compliment? It was hard to tell with the way he looked rather irritated. What could she say to something that sounded like a backhanded comment? Instead she only forced a smile to her face, and began eating her meal. Letting the awkward silence fall between the group. But it bothered her more then she let on that Spencer was bothered by her choice of black clothing. It had only seemed like the right thing to do, especially when she was supposed to met some of the high council today. And for the first time that day she felt ashamed- because not only did she honor A king who stole her father but she had also disrespected her own fathers death. Or so it felt. Tate kept her gaze on the plate until the room felt like it was closing in on her- shoulders squaring as she pushed her chair back and stood. "Excuse me. I'm suddenly not feeling well." She lied, quickly making her way to the door before a protest or any more questions could be asked about the blunt lie.

But why should Tate have cared? It was just a color, but here it significantly meant more. It meant mourning. Tate suddenly wanted to rip the dress off as she stormed down the hallways aimlessly- looking for an escape. Eventually finding a open door leading to the outside garden, she stepped out into the sunlight again; letting her shoulder fall as she took in a deep breath. But why did Spencer have to call out the damn color? Knowing just how she felt about his father- if last night was any tell tale sign of her distain for the dead man. Regardless Tate had awoken that morning and thrown on the color to please Rian, not thinking about how it would disrespect her father.

Black… black. People wore black. The castle was so dreary it seemed black. Hell, the whole world was black to Spencer. It had been for years. But Spencer thought he and Tate had, at the very least, an understanding when it came to the dislike of the former King. He was tempted to further comment, but a mild surprise danced its way into his eyes as Tate abruptly excused herself. Not well? Maybe she wasn’t physically ill, but Spencer had a feeling that it would only be a matter of time before she did become sick; sick of having no say in several aspects of her life, sick of the pressures, and sick of this place. The prince’s gaze shifted from where Tate had previously been sitting to Rian; who had already gotten up to follow after her. “Just say it Rian.” Spencer spoke in a sing-song manner of tone. “You’ve said it once before, haven’t you? So just say it; I ruin everything… don’t I?” Spencer was smiling devilishly; a sea of fire lit behind his eyes.

“I’m not playing your games, Spencer,” Rian threw back before picking up his pace towards the door, only to suddenly halt at the figure that had entered.

“Ah, Your Highness, I’ve been seeking your company all morning! Now then, with haste Your Highness-” the advisor spoke, attempting to guide Rian back towards the table- “we must urgently discuss the matters regarding the taxes your father had imposed just a few months ago…” The advisor drew on, disallowing Rian to speak, unless he were to raise his voice. Begrudgingly, the young King refrained from breaking away from the actually rather important conversation… Tate would be okay. Duty has to come first right now. She’d understand.

Spencer snickered in childish delight at seeing Rian’s inner turmoil, so the prince took the opportunity to rise, making a point to brush past Rian to quietly mutter, “No need to worry, I’ll do what you can’t. Haven’t I always?” Spencer smirked, his haughtiness leaking into his otherwise determined walk. It was Spencer’s mission in life to make Rian miserable in every way he could anyway, but going after the girl his brother had tried to chase after? Well… it was certainly something. Something that would hopefully ruffle Rian's feathers a bit. As the prince walked the halls, he’d occasionally ask a guard or servant if ‘the blonde in black’ had passed by, until Spencer was directed to the palace’s garden. Probably the only place that didn’t have a hint of black in it.

Upon reaching the doors, Spencer decided to -loudly- make an entrance; scaring her too often with silent entries would lose its fun for the prince. Spencer’s eyes landed on the lone figure in the garden. The sun was high enough now to practically spotlight the palace; its golden rays cascading down and blanketing the garden with a subtle warmth. It reflected well off of Tate’s golden lockes as well, but Spencer ignored that thought as he stepped closer to her from behind. “Someone should have warned you about the bacon, it has a nasty reputation of making people suddenly not well,” Spencer said in a lighter tone, though he was more or less trying to gauge just what kind of state Tate was in currently. He knew his comment at the table was more than likely what triggered her leave, but he wasn’t sorry. There were very few things Spencer allowed himself to feel things like ‘guilt’ and ‘remorse’ over… and it’s those kind of safe guards he has in place within himself that protect him from any more hurt. Regardless of how he may come across, Spencer has just learned that it's far easier not to care, then it is to care.

As the young prince always did, He scared Tate. Jumping at his sudden voice, and closeness. Rolling her eyes, Tate moved away from him, to prevent from slapping the arrogance right out of Spencer. Slightly upset that it was him and not Rian. Regardless she replied curtly, Short and simple. "The food was fine. Its your comments Im rather ill of." She didn't hide the anger that seethed under her skin this time as she turned toward him with a glare so cold the world could freeze. "You may think it's funny to provoke me, or whatever it is your doing- But I'm not here for games. I'm doing my best to try and be something we both know I'm not." She growled, "So Yes. I wore black today maybe not in grief of your father but rather to make Rian and others not question me. Like you seem to take pleasure in." She all but snapped.

At this point Tate had never felt anger like this in years- since her father's passing. Since finding out The former King had a hand in it all. And for what reason? Tate nor her uncle could come up with a reason as to why. Did he deny him something? Did her father steal from the King? Either way Tate could only see anger toward Spencer- toward his father because the ringing bells were approaching and soon she'd carry the same last name as the former King. And suddenly Tate felt ill really, face paling as she backed away again from Spencer. "You can torture your brother- but do not as much as think I will play those games. Im not Rian-" She uttered jaw ticking as she turned away from him and faced the more...cheerful flowers. Better that then the brooding male that seemed to hell bent on making her life miserable as well.

(All good lol^^)

Spencer was surprised to see he had still startled Tate- maybe he’s stealthier than he thought. Albeit, that’s not exactly a bad quality he supposed. Although he did catch the hint to keep a short distance as he moved further from him, so Spencer didn’t bother inching closer. For now, anyway. “My comments have a varying effect on people.” The prince replied with a smirk as Tate turned to face him with a frigid glare. Spencer merely watched in a relatively unbothered manner as the young woman spoke; but honestly… she’s far from the first woman who has focused their anger on the prince. Not that he wasn’t deserving of it -he figured he had earned it- but it still didn’t bother him. And still, he remained silent.

The prince did quirk a brow as Tate paled though, and further stepped away. And when she finished speaking once more, and turned away from him, Spencer walked towards a few feet opposite of where Tate was standing; reaching his hand out to trace gentle lines along the leaves of the hyacinths that were weeks away from blooming. “This is a game, you realize that right? You’re playing the game of politics and power, and it’s not easy to win -born to royalty and nobility… or not. If you think I’m a provocative person, just wait to be constantly berated and torn apart by the wolves on the council. Tonight will just be the beginning.” Spencer spoke, calm enough to where it almost appeared he was speaking to the plants rather than Tate.

“You are right though -you’re not Rian. Hopefully you won't ever be like him either. My brother thinks playing by the rules is what will make him a great King, but in reality, it’s what will cripple him. Everyone that surrounds him, and you know, wants nothing more than to see you fall. And they will jump at any opportunity to further that agenda. They will lie, cheat, gossip, and so much worse to bring a royal to their knees.” Spencer paused, glancing in Tate’s direction before he continued. “I grew up in the background, which gave me every opportunity to listen to every foul thing whispered behind my families back, I watched as one of my father’s closest allies on the council got him drunk enough to sign away land, and I watched their eyes light up at the news of my mother’s passing.” Spencer probably knew more than he should about some things. But only to play the game right back; Spencer didn’t mind weaponizing information, and choking someone with the threat of releasing things better left unknown.

Rian was civil, and just, and thoughtful… which was his greatest weakness. And Spencer may be more viscous and cutthroat, but he’d earned respect for being bolder and up front too. Interestingly enough- although every knight is sworn to the King, at least half of the knight’s guard would be willing to rally beside Spencer in the event of the younger prince challenging his elder brother for the throne, and sparking a civil war. And in truth, the prince has thought about such a thing. But that would be messy, and despite how deeply he loathes Rian, Spencer wasn’t entirely sure he hated his brother enough to be comfortable with him dead.

“The entire kingdom has the privilege of knowing the fate of my parents,” Spencer’s voice broke the brief silence, redirecting the conversation towards Tate, “I’d like to know the fate of yours. The council will too, Tate. They’ll want to know everything about you, and if you don’t give them the answers -or the wrong ones at that- they’ll make up their own. And trust me, they have the ability to do so.” Spencer said, trying to mask the seriousness embedded in his tone before he shrugged and glanced away -as if he didn’t really care. “Or keep it to yourself, just don’t come crying when you realize Rian isn’t equipped to keep the wolves at bay, and you blew off the only person who can.” Spencer added, and he didn't really expect Tate to spill anything to him, so he turned away and began his walk towards the doors. The prince had dirt on everyone; not that he was willing to ever help Rian by giving him certain information, and Spencer owed nothing to Tate. But he couldn’t watch another Queen fall while he stood helpless in the background. So maybe the prince was using Tate as a way to do right by his mother. Maybe.

Again, the prince was right. And Tate knew it. The council would do and say much worse. She had watched their gossip after all spread through the kingdom many of times. "And you expect me to just forwardly ask you for help? When you look at me with the most disgust I've ever seen." She retorted, glancing toward him every so often. "But what you don't understand is all my life I've been faced with trials. Learning how to do mostly everything from my uncle because my parents are dead." No it wasnt sympathy she wanted from him. In fact she would dislike that more then what came from his mouth next. "The way my parents died- It is simple. They can try to turn it- but my family knows. They know. And especially my father- he had to watch his wife give birth to me and die in the process. The King- the one my father worked for; killed him. Why? I dont know Spencer. But all my life I have hated your father- your family; though now I see it's not much of one with how much you loathe each other."

"So there, you wanted to know. Now you do. And I honestly could give a damn if the council knew as well." She spat, "But here I am- regardless of my background; and what happened to my family. I am trying. Because I care about the people- not just the ones out there who raised me. I don't want to watch this Kingdom fall." Tate finally sighed- letting out the breath she didn't know she was holding- face burning red. "So please spare me for not wanting the same games with you- that this council plans on playing me. I promised my family that I would at least try- because I owe my father that much. To spit on your father's grave- and prove to him that whatever game he was playing in the arrangement of Rian and I's marriage it isn't going to work."

But did she believe that herself? Did she honestly think that she could win over the council because of her good heart and they would just take her word? No. Tate would be foolish to believe that. And Spencer knew that and was throwing that in her face. Just like how he provoked her for the truth. Damn was she mad at him now. Setting another glare at him she stormed past him and toward her room, ready to get away from the constant banter that they seemed to get into. Inside her chest was a flickering turmoil between her sympathy for the Prince- and Rian.

In regards to what Tate first responded with to him, Spencer was quick to raise his brows in opposition. “Have you seen the way I look at Rian? That’s the most disgust on a person’s face you’ll ever see.” He corrected with a flicker of a smirk. Spencer was too impulsive to contemplate how that sentence could have earned him a more or less deserving slap, but even that would be something he’d be inclined to derive joy from -he’d go so far as to laugh, actually. The prince did listen though, even though the beginning bored him. All he heard was that despite both parents being gone, she still had somebody to lean on. She had someone to support and teach her… and maybe it was Spencer’s selfish nature, or envy, or even jealousy, but the prince expressed no empathy. Nor sympathy -but he was hardly a sympathetic creature anyway.

However, he did pause- just as she began speaking about the death of her parents. The death of her mother was unfortunate, but if anyone’s mother were to die at all, that seemed to be the best way to Spencer. As harsh as that sounded. However, the prince was quite positive his heart stopped for a second too long when she got around to how her father died… or rather who killed him. That- that was something not even Spencer saw coming. The prince did turn wide eyed back in Tate’s direction though, from the sheer shock of that. His own father? That couldn’t be right. Not that the King was morally above murder, but Spencer didn’t think his father was intelligent enough to get away with it. And why? What reason did a King have to kill a lower class citizen?

Processing the revelation that Tate dropped, as well as continuing to take in the rest of what she was saying, all the prince could do was blink. Huh, so this is what it feels like to be speechless. It was a first for Spencer. Even in his more trying moments in life he was able to say something. Anything. But Tate was right; ghosts of the past and hate divided the royal family. Although, a more sour look did encompass Spencer’s features as she said she didn’t want the Kingdom to fall. He didn’t necessarily want that either, after all, who was the one being tossed out to defend it? It’s not like Rian has ever seen a second of a real, life-risking battle.

But still, Spencer was rendered silent. However, what Tate said did get the blonde thinking though; what kind of game was the former King playing to have needed to murder someone so seemingly unimportant? His blue gaze caught the sharp glare sent his way before Tate stormed past him, and only when she was out of his sight did a wave of sense hit him. And so did the realization that he couldn't let her tell anyone -especially the council- about how her father died. Spencer was quick to turn on his heels and practically run after Tate, hardly taking much time to catch up to the surprisingly quick woman. Spencer didn’t waste any time though in reaching for her wrist to grasp tightly, just to momentarily disallow her from going any further from him. “Tate please,” he quietly gritted with pure desperation and despise that he was reduced to pleading, “you can’t tell anyone what the former King did to your father. Do you even know the kind of calamity that will bring to this palace, and to the kingdom itself? If you tell the council, or even Rian, they will not hesitate to launch an investigation into every decree my father ever made, every transfer of money, everything. That will be made very public, and if everyone knows that my father was a cold blooded killer-” they’ll think I really did murder my mother in cold blood- “it’ll disrupt the trust the people have in the royals and council, and our ability to protect them. If the people think that the upper class, and the royals at that, are out to knock off people belonging to the lower class… that will cause a rebellion or worse, and this Kingdom is already in a fragile state.” Spencer quietly spewed, though he knew his and Rian’s rivalry didn’t help with the stability of the Kingdom. But this was big. Something that would impact Spencer certainly, which was perhaps the only reason he was willing to try and stop this information from spreading.

Letting go of her wrist and drawing in a sharp breath, Spencer angled his head lower down so his gaze was completely focused on Tate. “You can’t say anything about this to anyone, I can’t stress that enough. But that doesn’t mean an investigation won’t be launched… I’ll do it myself, under the table.” Spencer stated, his gaze flickering both in front and behind them just to ensure there were no other ears around. “This is a ‘help me and I’ll help you’ kind of situation. We’ll both benefit, or we’ll both suffer irreparable losses, understand?” Spencer asked, or more so subtly demanded that she understand. She has to understand! But for this, Spencer wasn’t lying. He’d have to do a lot of digging, a lot of time consuming digging at that, and for the first time in seven years- Spencer was actually a little afraid. Afraid of what he might find. Did it end with Tate’s father? Or was there something much darker, and much bigger going on that only the former King was aware of?
