(Sorry it's short!) Kai forced himself not to shiver even though the cold had already hit him. He wondered how he'd do it if he had to be outside every day and was surprised when his colleagues hadnt gotten ill. They still turned up from their shifts looking frozen. ~ Kai focused on trying to see the man's face as he turned but his hood still covered most of his features. He watched the man's facial expressions but he just seemed surprised rather than wary. Of course Kai still knew that he could just be faking it. ~ Kai listened as the man spoke and raised an eyebrow with an amused look on his face. "Yes I can see that" He spoke. Kai didn't want to talk too much and said "Can you take your hood off please?" Alot of kais colleagues laughed at how he preferred to use manners and he knew that they would have already got most of their information. Still Kai couldn't not be abit polite. Hopefully this cop would just let it go. He hadn't done anything too suspicious. He was pretty sure that wearing a hoodie on a cold night wasn't labeled as suspicious. But yet, this cop was singling him out. He didn't get why, unless it was prejudice of a criminal always wearing black. To be honest, he wasn't quite sure. He hoped his joke about not having the right equipment would distract him or have him leave him alone. Although the officer seemed amused, he didn't seem to be following Sparrow's act. That meant that it was time to step it up to plan b. "Can you take your hood off please?" Oh rats, this cop definitely wasn't falling for it. Although he was sure that the drunken woman couldn't have given a good description, it was definitely not something he could risk. Although he was thinking about his next plan, his face remained the same, genuine interest and a bit of a smirk. "Officer, if you want to see what an attractive man I am, you can just ask to go somewhere a bit more private," He decided to play with the cop. He did have a plan though. It wasn't the greatest but it would resolve in a non-violent approach to escape. He just didn't feel like dealing with police tonight. He just wanted to eat and prepare for the next day. Singing on the streets didn't earn enough keep to even afford to keep the clothes on his back. "Really, I'm flattered but I don't view this as necessary," Sparrow reached to remove his hood with one of his hands. However, the hand dipped lower, grabbing one of his smoke bombs. He had made them out of the insides of a shipping ice pack that somebody had thrown away. The outside of the smoke bomb consists of a hospital glove The hood fell down and as soon as it did, Sparrow threw the smoke bomb toward the middle of both cops. As soon as he did, he purposely dropped the woman's wallet and took off running. He didn't have any use for it anymore, and he had been caught. The poor drunken thing might as well have it back. Kai watched intently to the man's actions putting his hands in his pockets as he waited for a response. Most pick pocketers had either attacked or ran by now but Kai just wanted to see the man's face before he could let him go. ~ Kai raised his eyes as he spoke "I don't have time for this" he said mostly to himself. He hated being sweet talked to even though it didn't happen very often. Most people responded to police by swearing at them or spitting and he equally hated all of them including the fact that most got arrested for harassment. He had to admit they got a bad rep and it just made Kai want to be as fair as possible. ~ The fact that the man seemed to stall made Kai increasingly suspicious. All he wanted was just to check and move on to others. He had to stop himself saying 'finally' when the man went to remove his hood. ~ Everything went cloudy as the man dropped a smoke bomb and took off. Kai saw something hit the ground and picked it up before standing back to his full height. He contemplated chasing after the man but decided it wasn't worth it, at least he had the woman's wallet. As he turned to go back he heard the Shakespeare's pizza door swing open and Max head towards him. "You can contact that woman I've got her wallet back" Kai said handing the wallet over. Max patted his back and they started back along the streets. Edited at November 7, 2022 11:31 AM by Starstruck

Sparrow knew that the cops wouldn't follow him, well that was his guess. Cops wouldn't pursue a criminal that gave back what he stole. Not normally, especially with the criminal running away. There were lots of places where criminals could hide in the city. Besides, even the dumbest cop could tell that pickpocketing wasn't a serious crime and used mostly for low-class criminals that needed food or shelter or that sort of thing. In his mind, this was rather a clean escape. There was no cursing involved, no hitting, and the cops got what they wanted which was the wallet back. The woman would be happy to have it back. Maybe happy enough to not notice is $8.99 purchase of a pizza. It wasn't his concern what she did after tonight but secretly, he could see it as a win-win. He got food to last him a couple of days and she got her wallet back. Fair compromise. He just knew to be careful and watch out for her in the future. He highly doubted he would be successful at pick-pocketing from her a second time. Once he was sure that he wasn't being followed by the cops, he turned down on Mount Ave and headed back toward the less-rich side of the neighborhood. He had taken an abandoned house around that area to stay in until someone found him there. It wasn't a terrible looking house, still fancier than anything he could have afforded doing things the right way and not by stealing or taking.

Kai and Max continued along the streets for only half an hour longer and headed back to the police station to end their shifts. In all fairness Kai was just glad to be back somewhere warm. His shift had been fairly easy and not too eventful though that was good especially for all the people out. ~ Kai hung around until the woman came to collect her wallet. Max had explained that the pick pocketer had just spent some money on a meal but the lady looked more relieved than angry. She thanked them before leaving back into the night. Kai finished up the paperwork they had to complete after their shift and himself headed out to his car. ~ On the drive home Kai still kept watch of the vehicles incase any drivers turned out to be drunk. He didn't know why he did it because even if he wanted to he wouldn't be able to stop someone in his ordinary car. Kai arrived at his block of flats and made his way to the fourth floor. It wasn't anything fancy and he spent hardly any time at his home so didn't bother to furnish it with loads of things just basic items. Almost as soon as he got home he changed out of his uniform and folded it on the sofa. Soon enough he fell asleep. Edited at November 8, 2022 03:44 AM by Starstruck

I hope you don't mind but I feel like we need a time skip))) Sparrow had escaped the cops per usual. Pickpocketing wasn't something cops messed with too often. It wasn't as serious as drunk driving, murder, or even robbing actual businesses. So once again, the criminal had a narrow escape from them. He decided to lie low for a couple of days but of course, a couple of days was all he could master. The pizza was long gone and there was nothing to eat. Not to mention he still had a lot more than just water to buy. He had to save up. He was trying to buy a house and get his life together. It wasn't working out though. Living was rather expensive. So after a couple of days, Sparrow travelled back into the city. This time it was broad daylight and pickpocketing wouldn't be the best option. His plan was to try to earn some money singing at the subway. That was a good chance for some money that he wouldn't feel guilty for keeping. He didn't view himself as a good singer, despite earning first place in show choir back in the day. But he wasn't feeling like taking money from another poor unsuspecting soul. So that was the plan. He really didn't want to live on the streets for longer than he had to. Edited at November 11, 2022 11:31 PM by Ashes of Night

(Definitely) Kai had the night shift again but it meant that he had most of the day off. That day he was just going to spend it going around the city until he had to get ready. Kai had just returned from his friend's and was heading back to the city via the subway. It wasn't his favourite way to travel but it was quick. Kai walked off the train trying to keep away from the massive crowds. Although he did work with them he still didn't like getting caught up in them, especially when someone he had arrested previously had spotted him and decided to beat him up. Kai shook the thought off but carried on speeding up. The sound of a singing voice filtered through to Kai as he approached the exit of the subway. Normally kai would have to move buskers on but it wasn't like he could do that especially when he wasn't in uniform. Kai didn't mind buskers anyway, at least they weren't stealing from people. Kai watched the busker for a little while. He wasn't a huge fan of the songs but placed some money down for him. Yet again it was something his colleagues wouldn't like. Kai listened for a little while longer trying to avoid the mass of people exiting. Edited at November 12, 2022 10:07 AM by Starstruck

When Sparrow got to the place where he normally worked to earn a bit of money, there was somebody there singing already. The every bit he earned, he put away to try to save up for a house. Once he got a house, he could get a job. That meant he could potentially get a real job and forget about his life as criminal. But someone else was there which meant that his spot got stolen. He wasn't too happy about it, speaking that the man was raking up a good chunk of dough. That was his money. He approached the man, shoving roughly past a few of the people around him giving money. He grabbed the man's guitar roughly and yanked it out of his hands. "Excuse you but this is my terf," He told the man, eyes blazing with anger. "Oh yeah, says who? You?" The man eyed Sparrow up and down,"You don't look like much. Get lost, this is my spot buddy."
The next thing Sparrow knew, he had punched the man in the nose. The man stumbled back with a gasp, holding his nose. Blood tainted from Sparrow's knuckles from the blow. Then the man glared at him and launched himself at him. Taken by surprise, Sparrow fell on his back and the man pinned him. The man aimed hard strong blows across the criminal's face, punch after punch, but yet he didn't stop...and Sparrow was too stunned to tell him to.

(I wrote my reply before but it timed out.Sooo annoying lol) Kai decided to keep watching the busker, soon letting his mind wander to what life on the streets was like having to fight the biting cold and just trying to get enough money to eat. He could understand why many ended up thieving though appreciated when they took the route of busking. Begging was another petty hate of his. Kai was thrown from his thoughts when someone pushed past him making him trip into the person beside. Shaking himself off he turned to see who had passed, his police instints kicking off. The sound of angry voices floated above the mini crowd and Kai passed between the people determined to find out what was going on. The crowd seemed to grow immediately, kai assumed it was people trying to see what was happening. He had learnt from past experience that the public could be very inquisitive and wanted to get involved in pretty much anything. Kai got to the front just in time to see a man punch the busker. Almost in a split second the busker lunged at the man both of them falling to the ground. Gathering himself together Kai's police experiences made him walk forward towards the fighting men. On reaching them Kai grabbed the busker's shoulder pulling him to his feet. He stood between them but far enough away so that the man on the ground could stand but kept his hand firmly on the buskers shoulder. Kai wished he was on duty, there wasn't much he could do off and it was unlikely that anyone would take much notice. The most they'd get anyway would be a warning. He glared at the watching on lookers hoping that they'd leave now the fight had ended. Edited at November 15, 2022 12:24 PM by Starstruck

Sparrow didn't hit back, he seemed too stunned that the busker actually hit back. Most of them were the type to be all bark and no bite. Now the roles seemed reversed as Sparrow was beaten in every place known to man. Then...it stopped. He continued to lay on the ground in complete shock at what just happened. This was his spot. All he wanted to do was earn a little money. This was his spot and these were his customers, not the other way around. After a few moments, Sparrow pushed himself to his feet, glaring at the man and wiping the blood from his nose,"You little bitch." He told the man, ignoring whoever was holding him back.
