Umbra watched the humans as they prepared to leave the house, she was sitting in a corner and just observing the proceedings with a tinge of curiosity. She didn't know what possessed them to go and have another dog, and that was all that she knew, only because she'd heard mentions of the event a day or two prior. She didn't know the why, she just knew that she was about to have to share her home with another dog. With her luck, it'd be one of those small fluffy things that thought they were invincible and all that, they really weren't, considering most of them didn't even come up to her chest, all of those types were just straight out annoying.
She didn't really have many opinions on the matter. As long as the other animal could get along with her, then she'd do her best to tolerate them. She could tolerate other dogs, after all, it was just the small yappy ones that tended to get on her nerves more than most. Though she would not appreciate it if her new housemate turned out to want to have the dominant place in the hierarchy that had been formed, she was the dominant dog in this place, and she and they would have some problems if it turned out to be a power struggle of sorts. She had never had a problem like that before, considering she had been the largest and strongest of her littermates and so far had not shared a home with a non-related dog before.
She supposed that it would have to be remain to be seen.
Her powerful jaws parted in a wide yawn, a small whining escaping her as she stretched her jaws open, and then closed with a meaty snap. A floppy ear lifted slightly in attention as she looked out a window and saw a rabbit in the yard, her dark eyes stared at the small creature for a moment before looking away with a huff, her tail coming around to curl close to her flank. She was actually a bit bored, but at the same time, not in the mood to go and run around. Kind of a lower energy moment, but nothing really had her attention at the current moment. Other than the busy humans that is, but she has seen this routine before when they have left the house. It wasn't really anything new, but the question of who was the new dog was something quite interesting.
Umbra decided to get up, and she wandered around the house in that almost gracefully lumbering walk she had, a heavy and powerful movement but a grace in the core of it. She sniffed around the floors and objects around the house, making sure nothing had any unwelcome scents on it, though she was well aware that the possibility that an intruder had come in was very unlikely. She would have known it if any had. After that patrol, she looped around the rooms again and ended up at the front door, standing there and looking up at the knob for a moment before sitting there, her way of letting the humans know that she was there and would guard the place when they were gone.

Maximus stared through the bars of the cage, his brown eyes no longer holding the light and happiness as it used to. He stood as a couple walked in front of his cage whispering softly to him as they were told his back story, something about them made him relax enough for him to sniff the man's hand without biting. He had the scent of a dog on him, a happy dog to be precise, his tail gave a soft wag and he put his paws against the cage he would give these humans a chance. But trust would have to be earned Jason (Human and Umbra's owner) Jason’s heartbroke for every dog he passed, he and his wife (sorry i'm just guessing) had decided to get another dog for Umbra to be friends with. A flicker of pointy ears caught his eye and he led the way toward the cage listening as the worker explained the past of the huge german shepherd before him, “he was abandoned by many humans” the worker explained, Jason shook his head at the sad news and put his hand between the bars hoping the dog would be friendly enough to say hello. “Oh sir i wouldn't see he is very aggressive and has given up on the hopes of having a family all i know is he was abused and used for dog fights and due to his scar on his eye we call him scar for short” The worker said quickly only to stutter as Max sniffed jason hand and wagged his tail jumping on the fence. “Seems friendly enough to me” JAson chuckled letting Max see his hand as he went to pet his neck. “What do you think dear? is he coming home with us?” he asked, turning to his wife.

Vera (human, Jason's wife &Umbra's owner)
Vera was doing a little better than her husband as they passed the dogs in the shelter, she was just a little better at pressing those feelings down, and was a little less affected. Not to say that she wasn't, honestly, she was still the type to try and adopt all of the animals in the shelter if given a chance. And the right amount of space to run and take care of them. The purpose of this visit was to adopt another dog, so far they had one dog, Umbra, and they'd both decided that it would be good to get her a friend to be with.
The three, her and her husband and the worker, came up to a cage with a large German Shepherd in it. Half of the woman's attention was on watching how the dog acted, and the other half of it was listening to the dog's story. "Barbaric" Vera whispered to herself at the mention of dog fighting, the word so quiet that the only indication that she had spoken was if someone was watching her lips.
She watched with keen eyes as the shepherd sniffed Jason's hand, and instead of a sign of aggression, or worse, biting or trying to go for his hand to bite, he didn't do anything other than that. The black and tan dog then gave a small wag of his tail, at which point Vera relaxed a little bit; honestly, she would have asked about bite history before sticking her hand in the cage, but it seemed to have been a stroke of good luck that her husband had not been suffering from a wound.
After the dog, she was not calling him "Scar" of all things, jumped up on the fence, her husband turned to her, asking her if they were going to adopt him. She turned her head more towards the man, her eyes flicking back to the large dog before going back to Jason, and then nodded. Saying: "He doesn't seem too aggressive right now, and it would be unfair to deny him a home just because of his background."

Jason (Human) Jason turned his head toward the worker once again as they began to talk “The last handler he had said the old shelter had called him Maximus so we are guessing that's what he has grown up with” the worker explained carefully watching Max for any signs of aggression. Jason sat with Vera waiting for the workers to bring Max once the door opened Jason lowering himself to the floor to not seem as a threat to the abused german shepherd. Maximus Maximus growled in warning at his handler even trying to bite through the muzzle as he was dragged through the door seeing the man crouching; Maximum max instantly relaxed he had thought they were leading him to get killed. Jason (Human and Umbra's owner) After signing the paper work Jason led max to the car, lifting him up and setting him down in the backseat giving his head a small rub before closing the door and getting in the front seat “ready?” he asked Vera

Vera (Human)
Vera nodded to herself at the name, Maximus, interesting that it's the full name. Of course it could be shortened to the more commonly seem Max, but still, it was an interesting thing that it was the full name. She shot a glance at the dog upon seeing the worker watching him, most likely for aggression, since it was mentioned that he had been more aggressive.
Once again she tensed at seeing her husband lower himself to the floor with Maximus. She knew what he was doing, getting on his level so that he was not standing above the animal, but still it was a bit nerve-wracking to see your partner do that, when they've been told that the dog was aggressive and had been used for fights. But it went over well, and after the paperwork was signed, they headed out to the car. She got into the car's front seat while Jason got Maximus in, and she turned her head over to Jason when he got in.
"Yeah, let's get this show on the road." She responded to her husband's inquiry.
Umbra (Dog)
Umbra wandered around the house, not quite aimless. She was patient, and would wait for her humans to come back. And the new dog, that thought popped into her mind and she gave a grumble, looking around the room, she had almost forgotten that. But anyways, she was patient and would wait, even if she was a bit bored at the moment. She had to admit, being by herself in the house and waiting for her owners to get back, it would get dull quickly. Unless she looked out a window and saw a human kind of eying the property like they were tempted to intrude, and she made a ruckus of barking while in full view of the window. That was interesting, and kind of fun to watch the human startle and quickly but trying not to be quickly walking away.
