Digging two wolves he didn't know made Red-Star a little safer knowing that they all were going to escape. MoonBeam had not come back saying that humans were coming. Red-Star's paws were sore and hurt, two claws had been broken and started to bleed. His legs were also stinging as he flung dirt behind him. Katie was barely talking and focusing on getting out. As they got under the fence and started to dig up, Red-Star's tail started wagging frantically. He was excited to get out.

Black-Sun didn't get far by digging so she decided to look over to see how the team of four was doing. Black-Sun walked over and when she saw them already under the fence and digging towards the other side, she cheered. Not too loud to worry other wolves or to cause humans to check on them. Black-Sun wagged her tail happily and watched as the wolves dug, almost finishing the task of escaping.

As MoonBeam stood watch, a door opened. About to run to get the others, she saw a wolf come out of the doors and MoonBeam layed back under the tree. She looked at the wolf. He seemed much older than the rest of them. MoonBeam looked behind her seeing the wolves almost at the other side. She wagged her tail and looked back at the elder wolf. Maybe she should go talk to him. She had to stand watch though. "I must keep watch for humans. Once they have the hole fully dug, I might be able to talk to him." MoonBeam thought, folding her ears back to seem more strict and focused. She had a very important job that she mustn't ignore. She had to stay here until they were done.

Rose continued to dig the hole. Soon with the help of the male wolf beside her the hole was big enough to go under the fence and continue up the other side. With a grunt, Rose heaved herself through the small space and continued to dig the soft dirt. She was pretty sure that the dirt stuck in her fur and the corner of her eyes would take moons to get out. But It really didn't matter to her at the moment. She was aware of the Male wolf beside her and was aware of his every move, from the time he was digging, to when he moved the rock out of the way. And she was presently surprised when he asked her for her name. Concentrating on digging up towards freedom, Rose responded to the he-wolf with a cough "Midnight Rose. but everyone calls me Rose. Yours?"It was getting hard to breathe in the small space. after all, they were basically digging a tunnel to the other side of the fence. Her only hope was that her nose did not clog and she didn't suffocate and die in the small hole. Now that would be embarrasing

Noctem pushed a pile of dirt back under the fence with a grunt, then returned to the other side to continue digging. "Nice to meet you, Rose," he said, pulling hunks of earth down in clods. "My name's-" Notem was forced to pause as a large quantity of dirt was dropped directly into his mouth. He spluttered and managed to spit it out, the shook his head vigourously. "My name's Noctem," he finished, a revolted expression on his face. "That's disgusting." Noctem regarded the hole they were digging and began tunneling in a slightly more horizontal direction. If they kept digging straight up, the ceiling of the tunnel would eventually be out of reach. Noctem listened to Rose cough, giving her a glance. "Just keep digging," he encouraged. "We're almost there." Noctem paused to push another little pile of dirt to the other side of the fence, where hopefully someone would get it out of the hole. He returned to digging, occasionally casting glances at Rose, who was digging next to him. She's a hard worker, he thought. It was a quality he admired.

As he overhears the he-wolf and she-wolf's conversation he hears their names. Noctem and Rose. Red-Star couldn't continue. It was getting too hard to dig with four wolves at a time cramping against each other. He backed out of the hole. He decided that his new job was to get the dirt that they dug up out of the tunnel and put it in the piles in the enclosure. It wasn't as hard but still hurt his paws. Red-Star tires and feels like stopping. He can't though, he has to push through and help the wolves escape.

Black-Sun watches as the wolves, whose names she hears are Noctem and Rose, dig to the other side. They are getting really close. With the pup, MoonBeam, keeping watch for humans, it was a great plan. Black-Sun hoped that humans don't come soon. They would destroy their plans to escape. Then, Red-Star stopped digging and pushed the dirt that Noctem and Rose dug up into piles at the top of the hole. Black-Sun decided to help her brother and jumped down to help him. She started to push the dirt to the top too. They had a great team, it reminded Black-Sun of her and Red-Star's pack that they were in. Black-Sun wagged her tail a bit at the thought.

With a laugh, Rose glanced back at Noctem " You know it would help if you tried not to get dirt in your mouth" she couldn't help but make a comment. As they were digging she started to grow tired but when Noctem gave her those few words of encouragement it seemed as though she had a boost in effort. With a smile, she nodded in response grateful for his kindly given encouragement.

Rose continued to dig alongside Noctem, digging at an angle as to make sure they did not dig straight up. Dirt kept falling down into Rose's eyes with each paw full of dirt she flung behind her. Shaking her head every 2 seconds was getting annoying.

Soon she started to feel as though the earth was getting easier to scrape, That could only mean one thing. "Hey! I think we are almost through!" she said Which gave her a boost of excitement. With a quick glance back at Noctem she dug as furiously as she could. Soon little tiny specks of light were breaking through making the dirty, dusty, and cloudy tunnel light up with the small rays of the sun. FINALLY! We are gonna make It! She thought as she pushed her paws through the hole and into the crisp air on the other side. Turning she expanded the hole making it big enough for a wolf to fit through. But soon the excitement wore off and she flopped down panting with exhaustion. She could see the other side, and breathe fresh, clean air but the digging left her worn out. With bloody paws and a dirt-covered pelt she flopped her head on her paws and tried to focus on making her breathing even again.

"You did it! We're free!!" exclaimed Red-Star. He ran through the tunnel and looked into the outside world. It was free of humans! It smelled fresh and free. Red-Star collapsed with sore and bloody paws. His legs hurt and they felt like they were burning.

Before Black-Sun went to the other side she asked, "Hey Rose, shouldn't we get the others?" Black-Sun was anxious to escape but wondered about the other wolves. She thought that they should get the others before the humans come to cover the hole.

As Noctem continued digging he noticed that the piles of dirt that had been building up on the inside of the fence were being removed. "Thanks, guys!" he called up before returning to work. Suddenly, he heard Rose say that they were about to break through and he dug faster. Sunlight broke through the earth as Rose dug the last of the dirt out of the way, and Noctem breathed a huge sigh of relief. He pushed the remaining dirt back down the hole and to the other side of the fence. "Tell everyone there's a way out," he said to the wolves removing the dirt piles. He walked back through the tunnel and pulled himself out into the fresh air. He shook dirt out of his fir and began cleaning off his paws. Suddenly, he realized how sore he was. His paws were bleeding and his limbs felt like they had been trampled by a herd of deer. Noctem grimaced, lowering himelf to the ground. He noticed Rose laying on the ground as well and lifted his head. "Hey," he said, panting heavily. "Nice job. We made it!" Noctem gave Rose a smile and wagged his tail weakly, then took a long moment to get his breath back.

As Red-Star was too tired to walk around, Black-Sun had to do the work of running around. She ran telling wolves that there is a tunnel along one of the walls and it lead out. Then, she saw one last wolf, MoonBeam, sleeping under the tree she was keeping watch at. Black-Sun picked her up by the scruff and carried her out. Freedom was here. Now to figure out how to get their collars off.
