Though Naze’s family still technically retain their title of nobles, they have fallen into a state of desolation, with much of the money mismanaged and other nobles looking down on their struggling house.

Appearance

Naze’s skin is pure white, like porcelain, with not a hint of warmth. His face is narrow, with high cheekbones, obviously something inherited from his Elven father. He has a gently curved chin and fairly high forehead. He has a thin-lipped mouth with pale lips that look almost nonexistent. When he grins, his smile stretches out sideways across his face, just a little wider than seems natural. His teeth are absolutely pure white, like shining pearls. He has a strong nose with a straight bridge. Whatever color his eyes are, whatever they look like, nobody knows. Because over his eyes is tied a smooth white blindfold, tall enough to cover his eyebrows as well. It has nothing on it except one word written in ink: 雪. His hair contrasts starkly with his skin, a vibrant red-orange from his father’s side of the family. It’s straight and smooth, and goes down past his shoulders. He wears it with the two strands nearest his face pulled back together over the rest of his hair, but sometimes lets them down. Over this he wears a woven straw kasa hat, like a farmer might wear while working the rice fields. This is a light golden-brown, and has a fairly wide brim.

Naze has a lithe figure, which is not only typical of both of his races, but also optimal for the kind of work huners typically do. Stealth is important to the warriors of his kingdom, and while Naze has had to learn to work around his bright white skin and bright red hair, he’s certainly well-trained in stealth. He has slightly muscular limbs, and he’s in phenomenal shape - he would lose his job in the blink of an eye if he wasn’t. The tips of his fingers are often burned due to his fascination with fire. Under those are a shine of old burn scars. They don't seem to heal naturally as they would on most people. He has sloped shoulders and a slender neck, and a graceful build. He's shorter than average, at around 5’7”.

Naze typically wears a white kimono when he’s not on duty, but that’s simply not practical for combat or covert situations. So instead, when he needs to be able to blend in with the forest (which is typically where he’s sent), he wears a darker outfit. He wears a medieval lace-up shirt in dark brown, with just a hint of green. Attached to this is a loose hood, which he wears when he needs to go unseen. It covers his vibrant hair and casts a shadow over his face so it no longer appears as bright white. The shirt's sleeves puff out slightly, and he has leather bracers laced over his wrists. He also has leather elbow pads, and light carved bone and leather rectangular shoulder pads. He has a large breastplate that covers from his chest to his abdomen, and his back. It consists of many bone beads strung together horizontally, very tight and thick so they give better protection. They’re designed to be tight to his chest, and not make much noise when he moves. Round wooden beads are nestled between the bones. Right where the breastplate ends around his waist, he wears a stretch of leather armor that covers his waist down to his hips. A short tunic skirt made of four flaps of cloth sticks out from under this. He wears fairly tight dark trousers. His legs have leather armor as well, and armor made of the same material as his breastplate over the fronts of his upper legs. He has fairly tall leather shoes with strong black string tied tightly around them. All of this clothing is in shades of brown, green, and black.

Personality

Naze makes good use of every moment of free time, and knows how to separate work and play. His family was never known for being good with money, and Naze is no different. He throws it away on the most trivial or unnecessarily extravagant things, and never saves it for things he really needs in life. He’s the kind of person who throws out something broken and gets a new one rather than fixing it. He loves to make small bets on mundane things, and when the opportunity presents itself, he's always interested in some high-stakes gambling as well. People assume that being a hunter, out on your own with rations to conserve, makes you a frugal person. And he certainly can be, when he needs to. But to him living that strictly is only required when he’s on the job. If he doesn’t have to, why would he deny himself something he wants? If he has money, why not blow it on fancy food and silky-soft beds in cozy inns? It brings him more pleasure in the short term, and Naze lives for the short term without thinking how that will turn out later down the road. The only thing Naze ever planned out carefully was his career, and that’s what all his strategy goes to. He doesn’t have the freedom to mess up in his professional life, but he makes up for that by screwing up his personal life. He’s friendly, and can often be found with a wide grin on his face. He has an enthusiasm for his line of work, and a positive outlook on many things. He belongs to the “everything will work out” school of thought. He’s touchy-feely with his friends and lovers, and is generally interested in some good-natured flirting, though he doesn’t initiate flirting with colleagues. He often gestures, a way of conveying emotions since his eyes can’t be seen. His posture is typically relaxed and laid back. Despite his outgoing and cheery personality, Naze isn’t loud or boisterous. He has a quiet, raspy voice, and doesn’t get too worked up over things. He doesn’t take well to loud people. He doesn’t mind crowds, but when the noise level gets too high it can overwhelm him. He abbhors sudden loud noises, which startle him and send him into fight or flight mode.

When Naze is on the job, tha's the only thing that matters. Often his job requires him to work alone, but sometimes he’ll work with others. Though he’s friendly and warm with them, he always prioritizes work over socializing. When he’s required to focus intensely, and especially when he has to fight, he’s absolutely serious. He doesn’t joke, gloat, or tease when he’s locked into combat. Every ounce of his focus goes into the battle, and messing up because he’s underestimated his enemy isn’t something he can afford. He’s tactical, and though you wouldn’t guess that he’s particularly intelligent when you first meet him, this is the virtue he relies on most in his job. When Naze is threatened, he drops any pretenses of geniality and there’s nothing but ice in his expression. The same goes for people he dislikes. He doesn’t try to hide it when he dislikes someone. He’ll be quite frank about it, but won’t start anything. Not on the job, anyway. He can handle being told somebody else dislikes him, and typically isn’t too hurt by it. His preferred method of dealing with personal problems is to go out of his way to make things more uncomfortable for his enemies in small ways. It’s petty, yes, but he’s certain that’s a lot healthier than many alternatives. There are a few ways of pissing Naze off, but one of the surest ones is to be loud and annoying. Naze has no tolerance for anyone who annoys him, and that’s surprisingly easy to do. All he asks is that people be professional and leave him in peace, but even that seems to be too much to ask.

The appeal of being a hunter, to Naze, is the thrill of adventure. He’s never been too afraid of physical injury, as demonstrated by his many accidents as a child. His loyalty is to his kingdom, and that’s not something he’s really put much thought into. He’s not doing this out of duty, or because he thinks he owes it to his people. He’s not even trying to be a hero, though that certainly is an added bonus. He does it because he loves this kind of life. He wants to be doing this, and he feels lucky to have been able to make it. He always puts his full effort into what he does, and when his mind is set on a task, it’s hard to break his focus. That’s mainly why Naze got the rank he’s in today, as one of the kingdom’s best warriors. He had to work damn hard for his position, and he’s proud of it.

Naze has been in nature for most of his life, and feels more at ease there than in towns and kingdoms. His powers, from his mother, are related to snow and the cold, so he has a natural affinity for that. But that’s familiar to him, and it feels normal. It’s nothing special. Fire, on the other hand, is a complete mystery to him. He loves all sorts of fires, from candles to fireplaces to lanterns. He likes to get as close to them as he can, and see if he can feel some sort of difference. He’s never been able to feel warmth, but if he puts his fingers too close to a flame he feels a sharp sting of pain that he imagines must be like how warmth feels. He loves spicy food because it gives his mouth a feeling that can apparently be described as hot. He knows anything fiery isn't good for him, and he's sure it weakens his powers. But it's so strange and unique. He also likes cold wintery days, and days when the sun is shining bright and the air is full of humidity. And he loves nighttime, when the stars come peeking out and he can see the far-off planets. He likes to stay up late to look at them. Every aspect of nature holds beauty to him, though he could do without downpours of rain - he has a particular dislike for getting wet. He likes animals well, though he's carnivorous by nature and sees many of them as prey. He eats any kind of animal, and that includes predators. Though, of course, he's especially careful not to kill a shifter or humanoid by accident.

Ice and Snow

This is Naze’s primary ability, and the only active one - the others are passive abilities. He can create ice and snow, and manipulate it. It’s strengthened when he creates it from water. But Naze is most powerful when in a blizzard not of his own creation. Shrouding himself in swirling snow gives him an extreme advantage in a fight.

Immunity to Temperature

Though Naze doesn’t consider this beneficial, he can’t feel temperature at all. He’s constantly cold to the touch, and can withstand sub zero temperatures. Though warmth and fire weakens his powers, and could be very dangerous to him, he’s still fascinated with it.

Enhanced Vision

Through his mask, Naze can see perfectly well. In fact, he can see a lot better than most people, picking out small details and being able to see farther than is humanly possible. This is especially useful when it comes to tracking. He can also see slightly around corners, good for finding people hiding behind rocks and trees.

Stealth

There are a few small traits Naze has which contribute to his stealth. He's unnaturally quiet, with light footsteps and silent breaths. He can easily move through the elements, and travel through weather like blizzards, fog, and heavy downpour, giving him the advantage of surprise. In the snow he leaves no footprints, walking on the very top of it.

Friendliness | Naze tends to get along well with people, and is sociable and has good manners - as long as he's not annoyed.

Professionalism | When it's required, Naze is always professional, and he takes his job very seriously.

Dedication | Naze loves his job, and he's very devoted to it. To him, his job comes before all else.

Focus | During battles and important tasks, Naze can focus extremely well, and it's hard to break his concentration.

Intelligence | Though Naze isn't particularly smart in his day-to-day life, he's surprisingly quick-witted when he's on the job.

Honesty | Being a hunter, Naze hold himself to certain moral standards. He strives for honesty when possible, and sometimes when not necessary.

Bravery | Naze's never been too afraid of getting hurt, and loves the thrill of adventure. Because of this, he readily faces any danger.

Hard Work | It takes a lot to be able to become a hunter in this kingdom. It requires hard work, perserverance, and more training than seems possible.

Stealth | Stealth is one of the main things hunters are trained in, and one of Naze's specialities. He also has a few innate abilities that contribute to his stealth.

Long-Range Combat | Naze has good aim, and knows where to hit with his shurikens to do the most damage. He typically goes for eyes and hands.

Melee Combat | Having trained for a long time with his bo staff, Naze is very good at melee combat with it. He can also use other weapons, but is particularly good with staffs and polearms.

Tracking | Naze has extraordinary sight, and spends a lot of time in nature. This makes him very talented at tracking.

Wilderness Survival | Like many hunters, Naze spends a lot of time alone outdoors. He has no trouble getting by on nature alone. And he has a special resistance to the cold.

Weaknesses

Money Management | Anyone who knows of the Belrae House can tell you they have no money management skills. That's why they no longer have much money. Naze is no different. He owes quite a few different people money.

Long-Term Planning | Though Naze can plan far enough ahead to be useful in his job. But he's more spur-of-the-moment, and in his personal life he has no concept of thinking ahead.

Easily Annoyed | Naze doesn't have a lot of patience. He's easily irritated by other people, especially those who are loud or talkative.

Coldness | When Naze is angry or feels threatened, he becomes far more cold and serious. He doesn't let go of that feeling easily.

Straightforwardness | Sometimes Naze's honesty goes past honesty and becomes rude. He typically only does this with people he dislikes, and it's very much intentional.

Fire | Naze's powers are weakened by fire, and he's much more easily injured by it than other people. Even smoke makes it more difficult for him to breathe than usual.

Pettiness | When Naze is upset with someone, he gets his revenge in small and petty ways. They annoy him, he annoys them.

Close Combat | Naze has two daggers for close combat, but this isn't what he's best at. When somebody gets too far into his personal space, he has more trouble fighting.

Brute Strength | Naze is strong, of course. He has to be, to be a hunter. But compare to other hunters who rely on brute strength, he certainly can't measure up.

Loud Noises | Naze is thrown off by loud noises, and if they're too loud they can make him have trouble focusing. Sudden loud noises when he's off duty give him a sudden shot of adrenaline.

Streetsmarts | Naze spends most of his time in nature. Because of this, he has little experience with traversing towns and kingdoms. He' not particularly streetsmart.

Likes

Gambling | Naze loves all sorts of gambling, from small bets to high-stakes tournaments. He loses a lot of money this way, but he just can't seem to stop himself.

Luxury | Having come from noble stock, Naze was always a bit bitter that he didn't have the same luxuries other nobles do. When he has the money, he always indulges himself.

Fire | Naze is obsessed with fire, and with what warmth feels like. He often asks other people to describe it, since he can't feel it.

Nature | There are a lot of aspects of nature that Naze enjoys, and he spends a good deal of time out in nature.

Flirting | Naze knows better than to start flirting with his colleagues (though, I mean, he can't help it if they flirt with him.) But when he has the chance, he's always down for some light-hearted flirting.

Quiet | In the wilderness, it's quiet and peaceful. Naze loves the silence, with nothing but leaves rustling and birds in the trees. He likes quiet people, too.

His Job | Naze's glad to have this job, and he had to work very hard to get it. He can't imagine anything better to be doing with his life.

Adventure | The thrill of the chase, the days on your own, the epic battles, those are the reasons Naze loves being a hunter. It's one adventure after another.

Spicy Food | The spicier, the better, for Naze. He loves spicy food because it gives his mouth a strange feeling, one that is apparently something like heat.

Nighttime | Naze loves the night, and he loves the beauty of the stars. He often stays up very late to watch them.

Meat | Because Naze's mother was a carnivorous yokai, Naze loves all kinds of meat. All kinds of meat, though he sticks to what kind of meat is socially acceptable.

Being Touchy-Feely | With close friends and lovers alike, Naze is very touchy-feely. He likes to touch their arms, troke their hand, and playfully hit them.

Dislikes

Loud Noises | There is very little Naze hates more than loud noises. They startle him, and irritate him to no end. He hates loud people, loud noises, and loud places.

Unprofessional Colleagues | Naze always retains his professionalism on the job, and he expects the same of his colleagues. It hardly seems like much to ask from such highly-trained individuals.

Annoying People | Naze doesn't really have the patience to deal with anyone who annoys him at all. And he's very easy to annoy.

Getting Wet | Despite his affinity for snow, Naze dislikes getting wet. He especially hates rain.

Money Management | It's too much of a bother for Naze to be responsible with his money. He doesn't like having to budget or be frugal.

Threats | Naze doesn't appreciate threats of any kind, and he doesn't take them as a joke.

Large Settlements | Naze prefers to be out in nature, and finds large settlements rather loud, though he's glad to have a place to gamble and spend money.

Taking His Mask Off | Though Naze can function perfectly well without his mask, he feels embarrassed and exposed without it. It feels wrong to let other people see him without his mask on.

Though Naze can ride, he hasn't taken the time to train with one specific mount. When he needs to travel long distances, he is granted a steed from the royal stables, and sometimes leaves the mount in the village nearest to his destination to travel the last part of the journey on foot.

Naze has been treated by Amarathi a few times, and every time he's met her, he's gotten along with her. They're both friendly people, and Naze appreciates her kind and quiet nature. She likes to tease him, which he very much enjoys, and she knows when to stop, which he enjoys even more. She looks after him when he's hurt, and he looks after her so she doesn't get hurt.
