As black spots threatened to take control of his eyes, the Alpha loosened his grip. Even though his ears were pounding, he could make out a voice, a females, and the rainy flowery scent told him it was Lididya. And by the sound of it, she seemed to almost be begging for his life. His grip loosened more, and the black spots began to retreat. Then finally, the Alpha let go entirely, and after putting a little more weight on his chest in victory, jumped off of him. Kodak rolled over on his side, not facing Lidiya and Coooer, and gasped for breath. He noticed Hymir and Commodus fighting six other enemy fighters, and they weren't doing well. "Hymir! Commoddus! Retreat!" He yelled, his voice rasping, but enough for Hymir and Commodus to hear him. They seemed to be heavily injured themselves, and after a pity look to him, they ran off, the enemy fighters not choosing to give chase. Even Hymir and Commodus wouldn't break an order. Kodak turned over to face Lidiya and Cooper once he was sure Hymir and Commodus had gotten away. Cooper began towards him, after ending his discussion with Lidya "We'll finish this later," and approached Kodak. "You are now a prisoner of my pack. You will either give me the information I want, or face the consequences. Lidiya here will be your guard. As she has spared your life. Even though I don't know why." He added mumbling under his breath while turning to face her. "You will stay in that empty den over there, now go." He growled the last words under his breath. They he yelled for two of the other fighters to escort him there. Kodak struggled to get to his paws, his shoulders and legs heavily scraped and bruised, his legs wobbly. The one to his left shoved him to get him to go. Making him give a small yelp in pain.
After a few more shoves and making it all the way across their camp, the two wolves gave him one last big shove, successfully making his fall over, giving yet another whine in pain, before leaving him.
He was alive and safe for the moment, awaiting on Lidiya once again.

Lidiya absolutely skedaddled. Honestly, she knew Alpha Cooper was coming for her to get he ass handed to her - like, it wasn't like for the past year or so she had been on quite the rebellious streak.

"We'll finish this off in a moment." Off he then went to get Dev, the elders, and everyone else hiding in the safe space. And Kodak gave a yelp of pain as Jeremiah shoved him like a sack of wheat.

"Oh, and Lidiya?" Alpha Cooper turned around, suprising Lidiya for a second. "You're in charge of the mongrel that you decided to spare. If he escapes..." his lips curled back in a snarl, "you'll regret it."

Lidiya made a show of looking down submissively. "Yes, alpha." Not that... she had absolutely no chance of following that order.

Kodak was getting out of here. Right now, before Alpha came back later tonight and questioned him. She had seen the results of "questioning" before, and it hadn't been pretty.

It also had happened during the small hours of the morning. So she had until then, then Kodak's thoat would be ripped out no matter what she did. And she just couldn't let that happen - to Kodak or anyone.

Digging up one of her fresher kills near the food stash - a relatively fresh rabbit - she loped over to where Kodak was lying in one of the empty burrows they had appropriated as "dens", and looked almost as if it was going to cave in on itself.

There was a reason why they hadn't actually inhabited this one, after all. It looked... rather unsafe.

Lying there, Kodak didn't look like the wolf that had proudly led his pack into battle, or the wolf that she had almost bluffed he way out of fighting, or the wolf that had chivalrously warned her of the attack.

He just looked alone, and so painfully vulnerable. And the huge gash he had - he was injured, too. And it wasn't like she could call their healer into here - in fact, they probably had explicit orders to not come in here and let her, the assigned guard, deal with it.

Well, she could deal with it.

"Kodak?" She dropped the rabbit in front of his muzzle, and her protectiveness then got the better of her - she couldn't help it, but she began licking Kodak's wounds. They just looked so bad -

She was also acutely aware that they were now definitely alone, and hopefully no-one was overhearing them.

"Kodak?" she repeated as she licked the blood off of his wounds. "Are you alright?"

He'd have to be. Because she was getting them both out of here, else he'd be dead by sunrise.

Kodak was familiar with questioning as far as his pack went. Whenever Njord would "question" anyone, it was pretty much condemning a wolf to death. No questions, just killing. He didn't know if that's how this packs questioning would go, but he was almost positive he wouldn't live to see after it.
Kodak just stared forward, towards the wall that looked as if it would collapse any minute. Hopefully everyone had made it back safely. Covan he was most worried of. Those apprentices looked as if ripping flesh of another wolf's bone was their favorite passtime. And Covan was heavily injured as well. He would be waiting for a mourning howl tonight, and he hoped he wouldn't hear one.
He heard Lidiya approach and call out his name, but he just didn't have the energy to move, he didn't say a word either, as well, he didn't know what to say. She dropped what smelled to be a rabbit by his muzzle, and repeated his name. Was he alright? If being on death row in immense pain was alright, than yes he was in perfect help. But he knew it wasn't the time to be rude. She was the only one who was going to help him now. Then she did something that surprised him completely. From the corner of his eye he could see her lower herself and began to kick his wounds. As her warm tongue connected with the large gash along his side, he flinched and winced, but it sent a shock of energy through his body, and found enough strength to lift his head to look at her. "You don't have to do this you know. We're even. I warned you and you spared my life. You don't have to help me anymore." Even as he said it, he knew she wouldn't listen. For some reason it just wouldn't feel right if she wasn't by his side, even with his future winding down before his eyes. His Golden eyes locked with hers and even on this chilly day, his body began to warm.
..
Njord awaited in the confines of his comfortable den. Awaiting Kodak. Even though his brother didn't know it. Ever since he had become of age, the attacks on Grey Hill had increased. Kodak, at the age of four, had already fought in ten battles against Grey Hill alone. And miraculously returned, to Njords distaste. How many missions would it take to kill him? He growled as he thought of this. He wanted to take over that pack so bad, but with Kodak looming, the wolves of his pack wouldn't trust him completely, wouldn't listen. As long as Kodak was here, his throne was threatened. His brother was much larger than he, and had much more support in the pack then he. And how had his little brother not figured it out yet? The guards being posted ever since he had become of age? The constant battles? Missions most expirenced of fighters wouldn't survive.
Commotion began to arise within the pack, as the wolves from the mission returned. Kodak would come to him first he knew. And would tell him that they had taken over and killed everyone without a problem. But instead the two brothers, and Kodaks stupid friends Hymir and Commodus entered his den, each looking to have taken a ride through hell itself. Hymir approached and bowed, and Njord nodded his head, inviting him to speak. "They figured out we were coming." He started, and a look of shock flashed on Njords face, but only for a minute. "I don't know how." Hymir continued. "They had evacuated the elders and juveniles, and their fighters were waiting for us. We all were heavily injured but... but." Hymir paused, his face full of commotion. "But Kodak was captured." No way. It was about time. A smile flashed across his face, followed quickly by a look of remorse. "Well, I'm sorry to tell you this. But if he was captured, he is most certainly dead." He flashed a smile again, this time lingering. "After what we do to prisiners, he won't stand a chance. He is dead. Kodak is dead." He laughed as he said those words, getting a confused look from Hymir and Commodus. "Assemble the pack you two. We must mourn for my lost brother." He smiled before stalking out the den, towards the high rock where they made announcements. Hymir and Commodus following behind, their heads bowed, believing their Alpha, believing that they friend was dead.

Lidiya stopped cleaning his wounds long enough to look at him, finding his golden eyes already locked on hers like a heat-seeking missile. "I don't have to do it." The sides of her mouth quirked up slightly. "Since when has that ever stopped me?" She dropped her gaze and spoke to the gash in his side - it looked slightly better now, but still, a wound was a wound.

"Eat something. You'll feel better with it in your stomach than outside your stomach." She probably sounded slightly bossy - and Kodak had more dominance than her, so she really shouldn't be sounding like such - but it was hard not to when he was completely prone in front of her with a bleeding wound. She licked it a few more times, then, after assuring herself it wasn't going to bleed much more, she sat down on her haunches and looked at him - a difficult position, she realized almost instantly, as that put her quite far above Kodak. Sliding down on her front paws slightly so that she was the same level as Kodak's raised head, she quickly looked at the entrance to the den - nope, no-one there, and from the sounds of it the rest of the pack was returning - and she whisper-hissed the next few words to him.

"They'll send an enforcer in to here to essentially keep you captive. I'll be sent out the front, guarding the entrance. Two hours after dusk - " she hoped that was enough time for them all, " - I'm going to come in, and we both need to disable the enforcer. Somehow." Please don't kill them. "After that, we both need to get the hell out of here. Both your pack and mine will be after us, but the alternative..." her voice caught slightly at that point, "... the alternative is that you'll be dead by sunrise."

She had to admit, it wasn't a very watertight plan. But it was all they had. Get the pack to sleep, take out the big wolf that the alpha would no doubt send in to just glare at him for the next few hours, and absolutely book it.

She had to just hope it worked.

Kodak smiled at her comment, noting the way she looked away when their eyes met. At her command, which he knew he didn't have to take, he obeyed, and lowered his head to take a bite of the rabbit, as he ripped the flesh from the bone, the taste filling his mouth with flavor, and even though he didn't want to admit, filled his stomach, as he'd been starved. After warning her, he hadn't had enough time to eat, and he forgot to eat last night, thinking about his plan. Quickly the rabbit was gone, and he listened to her plan, which was no doubt a good one. The rabbit had given him strength, and at her words he knew he would need it. "Okay, but after we book it, where are we going to go?" He asked the question with concern, because even he had never ventured far from his home territory. But he was cut from his thought when a howl rose through the air. It was faint, but he knew that howl anywhere. A mourning howl. But this one wasn't like the mourning howls he was used to. This one was used for royalty. Not normal wolves. At first his heart dropped. But then Lidiya's plan surfaced in his brain. He looked to Lidiya, into those beautiful eyes and muttered. "That plan will have to work. Because by the sound of that howl. They think I'm dead, and aren't going to come looking for me." Hymir and Commodus popped into his head. What were they thinking right now? Thinking he was dead. He couldnt just leave them without answers. He gazed down as he thought about it then looked up at Lidiya again. "My friends, the other two you saw the ither day. I can't just leave them thinking I'm dead. I know that it will make it harder for us. But I know exactly where they will go to mourn me." As he spoke, he couldnt help but think about the looks on their faces when he showed up alive. But as he was brought back to the present, he told Lidiya, "You know where our territory splits? On my side, we used to go as juveniles to the broken tree. That was our true happy place. I know they will go there. When we leave, I'll talk with then for a bit, say our goodbyes and then I'll find you and we'll go. Is that alright?" He asked, not knowing deep down why he wanted her input so much.

Lidiya nodded. He had enough dominance to compel her into ordering her to allow him, but... he had asked for her opinion.

There was nothing wrong with that.

"My pack..." she stopped for a moment. "Alpha won't forgive me for setting you loose. If I try join your pack, they'll instantly reject me, and they'll think you're a collaborator." She shook her head sadly. "But if your pack knows that you're alive, and with me... they'll come after us too."

Really, if she had any sense, she'd have left Kodak to die along one of the many points that he could have. But clearly when it came to Kodak she didn't, because here they were, plotting his escape and her exile from the pack.

"We're just going to have to go somewhere. Become loners, I guess, until - if - we find somewhere else that we can go." Some of her fellow packmates had done exactly that recently. But this time, they had something they were running from instead.

"And it should be fine. As long as they don't send your entire pack after us, we should be fine." One pack chasing them down was bad enough - she didn't want two. "I trust that they won't, though."

"Does that sound alright to you?" She wanted his opinion - this was his life they were also dealing with. And while it did have a lot of holes, it was probably the best they could get right now.

And she wanted Kodak's approval, strangely enough.

Kodak looked at her, and saw a wolf he hadn't seen in a long time. As she said those words, she looked and sounded exactly like his mother. She had been dead for a year now, and he had missed her everyday. And at this moment, the way she was willing to lose everything for him, reminded him of her. "You don't have to do this. I just want to let you know. I won't be mad if you do decide to back out." Then he added. "But yes, it sounds perfect. Once I meet my friends, we'll be good. And trust me. They would never betray me." And as he said those words, he knew they were true. Even if Njord found out Kodak was still alive, as long as he never came back, then Njord wouldn't have a problem. Strangely he wondered how his pack felt at his "death" happiness? Or true sadness? He would probably ask when he sees Hymir. Once he finished, he looked to Lidiya, and then to the den entrance, no one was there. And he did it before he could truly think about it, but he leaned over and licked Lidiya's cheek. Nervousness swelled over him as he realized what he just did, waiting to see how Lidiya took it, the smile never leaving his face.
...
Once the howl was over, Njord happily trotted back to his den, and relieved the guards of all their duties, giving them posts of Warriors, except for his chief Guard Atari, just in case Grey Hill attacked. The rest of his pack, though he was in his den, walked around camp subdued. They all knew Kodak was their only chance, and all of them had been waiting for him to challenge his brother. They knew he was the better leader, and had been hoping for Njord take down. But now he was dead, and their hope was gone. As a custom of the Eastern Mountain Pack, Whenever royalty dies, you go to a place that reminds you of the Deceased, and sleep there, rain or shine, and so most wolves went to either Solon's rock, the Kukamuk river, or any other common spot where they knew Kodak. But Hymir and Commodus went to their childhood favorite place, and old tree by the edge of their territory, where no one else, even their mates knew of, but Kodak and them always went in their younger days, and the two brothers, layed down, noses touching the tree, and lay there, reliving memories of their lost friend.

Lidiya wasn't expecting Kodak to lick her cheek, and tensed slightly as she felt it, then relaxed. It was Kodak. Somehow, wierdly, they trusted each other. And they had to, after all.

Lidiya smiled shyly at Kodak, but before she had a chance to reciprocate, pawsteps sounded outside on the grass that edged around the den. Lidiya hurrreidly scurried outside, and briefly blinded by the sun afte being in the den for so long, she didn't notice Jeb brushing by her as if she was as insignificant as a fly, with a target - Kodak, who's wound and thankully stopped bleeding and had begun to scab over.

"Jeb... he's hurt." Lidiya's words were brushed away as easily as he had knocked Lidiya to the side as he had entered the den - Jeb was big, an enforcer, and definitely short of brains.

Which made him a good Alpha's acolyte. And rather hard to talk to.

Ignoring Lidiya entirely, he focussed his one good eye on Kodak, still lying on his side with his head turned up. All traces of the rabbit she had brought him was gone, thank gods - if Jeb had noticed she'd fed him, who knew what he'd do.

"Wolf." Jeb didn't even know his name - in fact, Lidiya suddenly realized she was probably the only one in the pack that did know it.

No way in hell would they ever get it out of her.

"You are to stay here until we come and interogate you. You are not to move. You are not to try inteact with any wolf that you see. You are not to try to escape. Faliure to obey will result in... a punishment." Jeb's eye flashed with menace as he said that - as if he'd take pleasure in administering the "punishment".

"I will personally ensure that you do not go anywhere. That she-wolf -" he motioned to Lidiya, finally acknowledging her presence, "- will ensure no-one else comes in and gets you. And should you evade me, you will have her and the rest of the pack to deal with."

Not that he knew that Lidiya had no intention of summoning the pack if Kodak "evaded" Jeb.

"You do not need to know my name. I do not need to know your name. You don't even need to learn her name." Once again, he motioned to Lidiya. "You ar our captive, after all."

"Understood?" Jeb's challenge came with another eye flash, and Lidiya silently willed Kodak to nod his head without speaking. Because she feared what would happen if he did.

(Kodak's reply might have to be a bit short, and I apologize for that. But he needs to be able to do something ar the moment, and I can't just timeskip over him)

Kodak's smile grew at her reaction but that was until he heard the sound of paw prints approaching. As Lidiya rose he realized that this was probably the enforcer coming, and he quickly moved the rabbit bones behind his body, as Lidiya was pushed out the way by a large wolf coming in. Definitely the enforcer. As he came on, he went on and on about the rules, expectations and such. And it took all of his energy not to roll his eyes or jump at his throat. He could see the challenge gleam in the wolf's one eye, and knew that he had no problem ripping him to shreads. To be honest this was the same way interrogations worked in his pack. Kodak knew if he wasn't badly injured, he could probably take him. He was bigger than him by only alittle and only had one eye, so Kodak had the advantage, at least that's what he told himself. But how to take him out? He didn't know right now. He nodded his head slowly at the enforcer, who looked him up and down, but continued to stare menacingly. Was this how Njord had it for their prisiners? Guess he would never know. He didn't know what the enforcer would do next, but he tried to look at Lidiya, but the enforcer blocked his way. How were they supposed to disable him?

It wasn't until dusk that Lidiya did something.

The alpha, of course, had left the three of them here with orders to just stay and guard the prisoner. In fact, she hadn't seen him once since the battle.

She was acutely aware of the time slipping away. She had to time it perfectly - while the majority of the pack would be asleep and only a skeleton night watch would be awake, but before the Alpha came over and started interrogating Kodak. Else, they'd have to deal with her entire pack, and with Kodak's wounds, she didn't think that'd be possible.

Cracking her neck - holy gods, it had been so long her entire body had stiffened up, she moved for the first tim in probably hours, stretching a bit and making sure her muscles were nice and loose for what she'd do in a few minutes.

She could only hope Kodak understood the meaning of her getting up and stretching after not moving for so long. That he'd get that it was soon or never.

"Going somewhere?" Jeb's oily voice had a taint of amusement in it as - apparently - he observed her from behind. It was the first time that he had directly addressed her after brushing right past her on the way in.

Wasn't it also a bit creepy to be observing her from behind too?

She used this excuse to look at Jeb, however, eyes downcast so he wouldn't see the challenge that flashed in her eyes briefly. That also meant that she could look at Kodak and - damn. She could honestly only hope.

"Just looking forward to when I can get out of here and leave the prisoner to someone else." She kept her voice light, although considering she hadn't moved or spoken in hours, it was a bit difficult. And there was Kodak, to the left of her vision.

His wound seemed to have nicely scabbed up in the hours leading to now, but she could only hope that it didn't start bleeding again and leave a great big trail of blood for everyone else to follow when the time came to it. Or that Jeb would cause more wounds to them, enough that they'd be injured as they ran.

Her pack didn't take kindly to runners.

She silently turned back to the entrance, the sight of Kodak imprinted in he mind. Could he move before Jeb crunched down on his throat? She could honestly only hope.

The plan's holes were now coming back to bite her. But then it was the best that they had had, no?

From behind, where Jeb was doubtlessly still staring creepily at her, all he could see was that she was resuming the pose that she had occupied for the past few hours. But now she was searching. Scanning the camp with her eyes and not her head, marking down everyone that went into their dens and didn't emerge.

In fact, from this vantage point, she had a pretty good view of the dens. Not only was this little den small, and look like it was on the vege of collapse, it was also more removed from the main pack's dens, and closer to the treeline.

She had to take all the advantages she'd get, after all. They'd have to both take down Jeb - a wolf that might have been Kodak's equal if Kodak wasn't heavily injured and lying below him - and run for it before anyone else caught them.

There. Alpha Cooper went into his den. and Lidiya inwardly marked it, and the position of the setting sun. Now that the Alpha was in his den, he'd likely not emerge until the small hours of the morning, where he'd come over here for the interrogation.

The pack fell asleep too slowly, in her opinion. Or maybe, it was just because for the first time ever, she wasn't looking forward to falling asleep. And she was counting every minute, fully aware that every minute that she waited waiting for the wolves to fall asleep, she had lost anothe minute to get Kodak out of here and away from Jeb's jaws.

Jeb yawned. Lidiya's ears instinctively perked at the new sound before realizing what it was.

Jeb was sleepy. Why else would he have yawned, breaking the silence that had lasted so long? Lidiya marked the sun - barely visible over the horizon now.

Five.

Four.

Three.

Two.

One.

The first thing that Lidiya did was prick her ears. Normal, for her.

Her head swished around, looking at Jeb - whose eyes seemed almost half-closed with sleep. Honestly, Lidiya couldn't blame him - he'd been up since the crack of dawn, then engaged in a bloody battle, and had to stay up all night as a reward.

"Now!" she barked at Kodak. Not really caring about the noise anymore - they had to both move. Now.

With that, she got up and jumped.
