Kodak sat there for a moment, dazed and confused. What was she talking about. He never cared about who her father was. He never was angry at her for that. "Lidiya, I never cared about who your father wa..." and he was broken off as she rose and brushed against him , clearly angry. What did she mean it was a ploy. He hadn't even thought about her being in heat. He would have apologized either way. He got up to follow her, having to jog to catch up. "What are you talking about." She still wasn't listening. "Lidiya!" He yelled, not loud, but so she could hear him. Ignored. He growled slightly as he was annoyed. He walked quickly and stopped in front of her. "It thought you were mad at me? When was I ever mad at you?" He stood there In front of her, her gaze filled with an anger that could catch this whole forest on fire. But hisnwords came out with sincerity. And his face took on a hurt expression. She had said she needed time. Yes he had heard her. And she probably would get even more angry at what he was doing, but he wanted to make sure she understood. Because he didn't want to lose her again.

Lidiya was forced to meet Kodak's gaze - despite yesterday he definitely couldn't have - as now he was standing in front of her. Could the guy not take a hint, she just... needed to process it. Just, give her a day or two.

"When were you ever mad at me? Right now, I think." She didn't want to be talking about it any longer. She didn't even know if Kodak's apology was genuine, or if he just wanted to try repeat what he did yesterday.

Like he could just push aside the fact that the very alpha that was at war with his ex-pack was her sire. Like that was nothing.

"Just give me a day or so. Okay?" She dropped her gaze from Kodak's, unwilling to issue a challenge to his dominance or not and letting him do what he'd been trained to do. "Please."

Sidestepping Kodak, she made her way out, towards the unknown, for yet another day.

---

"Lidiya might be lost to us." Alpha Cooper announced to the congregation of wolves, as Dev stood near the sidelines, listening to every word and trying to decide if the Alpha was telling the truth.

Why wouldn't he be though? But it just felt so... unreal. Something that his older sister would never do.

"She resisted rescue and managed to escape alongside the male we now know is Kodak." One of the enforcers flanking him growled menacingly at the name. "The wolf we captured, and as it seems, seems to have taken Lidiya with him."

"We're not going to give up, though. We're freeing Lidiya and bringing that traitor Kodak back to where he belongs and teach him a solid." Dev fully supported the idea - he just wanted his older sister back, no matter what.

It had only been a few days, but he... missed her terribly. He missed how she'd stand guard beside him if there was a problem he couldn't fix, or just her comforting presence that she never showed to any of the other wolves. He was happy to be her younger brother, and had neverr once regretted it.

He just wanted her back.

"Any volunteers?" Alpha Cooper looked out into the wolves of his pack, and suprisingly, Dev was the first.

"I- I'll go. I volunteer."

Kodak hung his head. She just didn't understand. And at the moment he thought she never would. He wasn't angry at her. But as she side stepped him, anger rose inside him. Did she just refuse an apology because of what had happened. Because if so that was just plain wrong. But he decided, as he had earlier, that he wasn't going to push it anymore. For his sake and hers. He would be there bo matter what for her, whether she accepted that or not. But he waited a little longer before following, part of his heart breaking at the thought that she might not care for him anymore. His ears pinned back, he began to slowly make his way behind her. Keeping a lot of distance as to not upset her, and to not be snapped at again.
.
Hoku, limping badly, entered the Alpha's den. Hokoshiko and Hiku had gone straight to the medics den, for either injuries or as not to fave the Alphas wrath. "Alpha," He started his head lowed, "we found him, but were intercepted by the other pack in the process. He is heading north." He added quickly. "He seemed to be with a female, and by the looks of it, a Grey Hill Wolf." He finished, expecting a hard yelling. Instead, Njord sighed, and told Hoku to raise his head. "Hoku, I trust you with my life. And I know you can get the job done. Go and find Kodak, and either bring him to me, or kill the female he is with. Take Delos and Gunnar with you. Now go."

Nikolai was out wandering when he smelt something.

It was a scent. A scent that he had definitely not expected to smell on his patrol of the pack lands. A female in heat - and definitely not any of his female pack mates, most of which were definitely not. They didn't do it all at the same time, and it was rather early in the season for a female to go into heat.

But it was definitely there. Unrelated, and definitely going in on it.

Nikolai's natural curiosity was aroused by it, and he leaped over the stream that marked the western boundary of their territory. Whoever they were, they were coming pretty close to their territory, but they might have completely missed it if Nikolai hadn't scented her.

What was a female doing out in open territory by herself during heat? Usually they had found a pack by now to mate into and settle down in for the winter, before taking off again in the summer if they had to. Nikolai's pack themself, Plumrose River, had one or two of them that most of the males were definitely getting close to in preparation for their heat.

But here was one already in it. About two and a half miles away from their western border, and Nikolai tracked it in the air almost like a magnet, intrigued as to who it was.

It wasn't until about he was five hundred meters away that he finally found their tracks - definitely, they were going to pass pretty close to their territory, but wouldn't intercept unless they turned right - and scented who was with her.

A big, dominant male, whose scent was practically intwined with the female's now that he was smelling their tracks.

Who were they, and what were they doing out here? Were they trying to establish a new pack or something? Nikolai had far more questions now, and no answers, and as his curious nature demanded, he had to go find those answers.

He loped after the scent, gaining on them and making no secret that he was here. He wanted to be noticed, then he could ask his questions.

They seemed to be travelling pretty fast, though, and they had gotten to about one mile away from the border of their territory on the right when he could see them as he crested a hill.

As he had scented, it was just one female whose scent he had smelt, and one - much larger - male that, even from here, had th build of power and dominance. Nikolai shrank back from it momentarily, unwilling to go up against such a male, before continuing his lope after them.

As if she had felt the eyes of someone else on them, though, the female slowed down and looked behind them - where Nikolai most definitely was in view, maybe a hundred meters or so behind the two of them.

"Kodak!" The female's voice could be heard from this distance, as she nudged the male - whose name was Kodak? - and Nikolai slowed down to a respectable trot, fully in view of the two of them, eyes downcast as he approached them. He wasn't a threat, and definitely didn't want to take them on.

But the female's scent was rather nice.

Kodak heard Lidiya's scream and turned around, feeling it as she nudged him ever so slightly. Kodak immediately got into a protective stance. He moved his body in front of Lidiya, enough to protect her, but still allowing her to see. His fave contorted into a low growl, warning the Wolf not to come any closer. Was this wolf a loner? He couldn't tell. All he knew was that it was a male, and he wasn't going to let him get close to Lidiya. But even at his growl, the Wolf only slowed down, but lowered himself so that his belly almost grazed the ground as he approached. From a distance he had looked like a larger male, but as a approached he noticed that he was rather small for a male, and his stance scavenged only slightly. Not only was the male submissing himself to him, but he was definitely not a threat. Unless he wasn't alone. His eyes drifted wearily to the trees around him, looking for fur or eyes, but seeing nothing. Nonetheless, he wasn't reassured. The male approached before slightly bowing. A respectful gesture that Kodak wasn't used to from wolves outside of his pack. Kodak looked to Lidiya, his face confused. "What do we do now?" He asked, wanting her approval, and hoped that this would lessen her anger for just a moment. And hopefully direct it on this other wolf.

Nikolai was rather excited indeed, but he managed to keep it under wraps for now. Two unrelated wolves near their territory... well, it wasn't every day that Nikolai on his little border patrol came across things like this. He didn't want to threaten them - not that he could, either - he just wanted to know who they were and where they were from.

"I- hi, I guess." He was already stuffing up the speech, goddamnit. Then again there really wasn't a standard procedure to dealing with wolves that just wander along - not that it happened often anyways.

Curiosity got the better of him again, though. "If you don't mind me asking... who are you two, and where are you from?" He looked briefly at the female who was in heat, before realizing she was looking at the larger dominant male - Kodak - for answers. Said large dominant male seemed to be completely oblivious to the way the female kept glancing at him. Nikolai wondered what exactly had happened between them that made this, exactly, happen.

"My pack - Plumrose River -" he had no idea where these wolves were from, their scent was unfamiliar, their... everything about them was unfamiliar, "- is just that way a couple of miles." He jerked his head to the right. "Were you... looking for us, or...?" He let it trail off before he hurreidly corrected his statement. "Not that I think Alpha would care that much. He'd probably just let you go on your way - wherever you're going - if you didn't mean to talk to me, or anyone." His slight smile robbed any of his words of an insult.

"Sooo... what is it?" His curiosity, at this point, was near bursting. He wanted to know ho these two unfamiliar wolves had managed to stumble across them - and here was Nikolai thinking that, as they did have a rather large and somewhat influential pack and knew a lot of the wolf packs near them - yet these two were unfamiliar. How far must they have travelled to get here? Nikolai had no idea, and he was too curious to let it slide.

For some reason Kodak liked the curiousity with this male. He always enjoyed watching the pups of his pack - former pack play around and learn. This wolf seemed like that kind of wolf, like aprt of him had stayed a pup. And with that, Kodak couldn't help but smile. "Well, I'm Kodak," He started, knowing this Male would have heard her Lidiya's scream. "And this is Lidiya." He wanted to add that she was his mate so bad. Because even if the Wolf thought he wasn't being obvious. He was. Kodak could see the way he was looking at her. "I am from the Eastern Mountain Pack, and she is from Grey Hill." He thought he had heard of the Plumrose River before, it was like it was on the tip of his tongue. Someone had went there and came back, but he couldn't put his paw on it. "We weren't necessarily looking for you, but he we are. We need a new pack. Our packs have chased us out..." He didn't want to get into a long story, and he could see the way this wolf's eyes lit up, "but it's a long story that I really don't want to tell at the moment." He looked around, scanning for more wolves, but finding none. "If you would, could you take us to your Alpha? Uh," He hesitated. Had this wolf mentioned his name yet? He didn't think so. "Uh.. what is your name?" He asked. Turning once again to look at Lidiya, noticing that her gaze flickered downward as he did so, not catching on to what it meant, dismissing it.

Nikolai thumped his tail enthusiatically. This wasn't exactly what he had been thinking he'd find, but it'd be quite interesting anyway.

"Yeah, alright, I can bring you to Alpha. He should be pretty interested as to where you're from...and you say you're looking for a pack to join?" He thought for a moment, before shrugging. It wasn't any of his business.

It was a few moments before he also realized that these two new wolves - Kodak, and Lidiya - had asked for his name.

"Oh. Ah, my name's Nikolai. Uh... yeah." Well, wasn't that slightly awkward-

Shaking it off like wet droplets of water on his fur, he jerked his head to the right. "On your current path you'd probably have passed pretty close to our territory, but you wouldn't have intercepted it I think. Here, it's a mile or so this way." He trotted a few steps, before looking behind him to make sure they were still following.

---

Lidiya was silent the entire time. Kodak had seemed to handle this guy - Nikolai, he said he was - pretty well, at least. She hadn't missed the way that Nikolai's eyes had flitted to her briefly, either - to be fair, she was still in heat and it was a completely natural thing for him to do. She couldn't go for his throat because he was acting from instinct.

"Uh, Kodak? Lidiya?" Nikolai's voice floated from where he was still excitedly leading them at a fast trot towards what purported to be Plumrose River. "Are you two... together, in a way?" He sounded incredibly awkward, lke it wasn't something he'd wanted to ask but curiosity had gotten the better of him. (Which it definitely had, and Nikolai regretted it the moment it came out of his mouth.) But it was sitting there, and before Kodak responded, Lidiya jumped in.

"I don't think so."

The rest of the walk to Plumrose River Pack was spent in silence as the tension between her and Kodak stretched, and Nikolai uncomfortably squirmed from up ahead, aware of the tension between them.

Kodak nodded, still awaiting the young males name. Nikolai. Why did that name suit him well. He smiled to himself, as he followed him. Lidiya following closely behind. Hopefully towards their new home.
It was a little ways up the trail where Kodak could feel tension rise from the male in front of him. And then he asked it. Why did he have to ask that question right now. He was about to mutter "none of your buisness." But then Lidiya butted in. I don't think so. His heart dropped at the words, and even though Lidiya and Kodak trotted side by side, he could feel those words at a whole new level. He closed his eyes for a moment, his ears pinned back as they always did Whenever Lidiya would say something bad about him. And surprisingly, even with the young male in front of him, his tail tucked as well, his head automatically lowing. He slowed down a bit, hoping Lidiya would see him like this. He was hoping that they would still have a chance. But after everything they had been through, she still didn't care for him. And those words hurt most of all. And even though that Wolf Nikolai seemed like a good wolf at first. It had changed in Kodak's mind. He had no reason to ask that question, and for some reason, he felt Lidiya shouldn't have given that answer quite yet.
...
Kodu had just rose from his den, the morning hours only now just starting to fade away, bringing on noon. He looked around. His lead scout was talking to other scouts, and his lead hunter was organizing a hunting patrol. Camp moved around productively as they always had. Their location in the mountains had provided many larger rocks that they had formed into nice large dens. And he looked upon that with pride. His pack was doing better than most. He looked back inside at his mate Floria, her black pelt moving up and down slowly as she slept, the two of them having stayed up last night discussing plans. He smiled at her before heading down the small hill towards the center of the pack.
..
Nikolai had led them higher up into the mountains, but not high enough to be in the snowcapped. They sure had traveled far. Kodak still hadn't said a word since then, and only now it seemed like Nikolai understood what he had done. As they capped the hill, Kodak was amazed at what he saw. And he completely missed what Nikolai said next. He looked in awe. Many smaller rock formations did a semicircle around a large hill, in which another den was carved out at the top. A small stream which must connect to the Plumrose River carved its way around the backside, even having one of the dens overlooking it, presumably the medics den. Almost all of the pack members were doing something, whether that was talking, playing, dragging food, or carrying moss full of water. A wolf stood lone in the middle, his tail held high, his face carved with a broad smile. Kodak almost had to smile too, the Alpha looked to be around Kodak's size, perhaps only a little smaller. His pelt was a raggedy brown with only a white star on his face, and he had a dark brown brindle covering his body. His eyes were a bright green, and his nose was a dark liver color. He stood with a clear dominance, something Kodak would have to get used too. But right now, this pack seemed pretty good.

Nikolai finally looked backwards at the two of them. A slight smile on his muzzle - he was proud of his pack, after all - he jerked his head at his pack spread out in the slight hollow.

"Plumrose River Pack." There really wasn't much for him to say as he looked down at his pack before leading the two of them downwards to the pack, with renewed vigour in his step.

---

Lidiya looked down at the pack, before turning to Kodak and looking at him with a question on her face.

This new pack looked... like safety. Refuge. Something that they had both been looking for.

She looked for a second to long before realizing why, exactly she wasn't talking to Kodak for a bit. She just... needed a day or two. She couldn't handle it right now, but she just needed a bit.

"Kodu!" Nikolai ran the rest of the way to a male who looked even more dominant than Kodak. Maybe the Alpha of this pack? Tail wagging excitedly, he did a prefunctory bow before the Alpha before he continued. "We have... visitors. I picked them up from about a mile off our western boundary - you know, that creek over there - and they seem to want to talk to you, and they -" Nikolai cut himself off as he realized it was probably best to let the two of them talk.

Lidiya nudged Kodak slightly. He was better at this kind of thing than she was, and although she wanted to stay mad at Kodak for a bit, she had to admit this was one thing she couldn't do.
