Flux de Angelis | Cook / Inventor | Mentions: Dallas, Javalasii, Shai (dir.) Ambrose (indir.)

He didn’t have to wait long for someone to sling him a response, what was surprising was that it came from Dallas. His head swivelled to look over at him and raised an eyebrow curiously. The comment made him huff out a very short noise that sounded somewhat like a laugh.

“Roughneck.” He repeated the word under his breath, turning his head to look over Javalasii’s form. He was careful not to stare for too long, he wasn’t a fool. Flux kept his roaming eyes on the furred dragon until he heard the pointed words aimed back at him. His eyes shone with amusement before turning to look at Dallas.

“What else I’m going to bring home? What do you think I’m going to do? Sweep some woman off of her feet and ferry her back here, or even better, buy a new kitchen and force Javalasii here to carry it free of charge and leave you behind?” He chided, lips curling into that devastating grin, he watched as Dallas began his climb up onto Java.

Eyes bright with light as he stepped forwards, calling over his shoulder towards Shai and Ambrose.

“I think I’ll stick with Java ‘ere. Less grumpy than your scaly lump, Shai!” Flux was still beaming with a grin as he approached the female dragon, there wasn’t a lick of hesitation in his movements.

Even though he didn’t ride himself, he knew how to. He had been around the dragons on this crew long enough to know that if you acted like you were confident, it often worked. Most of the time. Some of the time.

Flux gave Java a small look as he pushed himself up from the ground, not needing to grab onto her fur to hoist himself up. He threw his arms up and wrapped them over the top of her spine and pushed to pull his torso and then legs up. Swinging himself into position on her back with practiced ease.

Tiamat | Mentions: Urchin, Cassiopeia (dir.) Ambrose, Javalasii (indir.)

Tiamat’s head lifted and sank in time with Urchin’s bobbing about, eyes carefully observing her until that voice came again along with the clicking of her tail. The striped dragon reared her neck up high to look across the deck as she heard a male voice yell, momentarily distracting her, she saw a fur covered dragon and a bulky male with humans. How demeaning, having a human ride you.

The sound of another word leaving the spikey one’s mouth made Tiamat’s eyes dart back down to her, neck snaking its way down soon after. She hadn’t observed her speak before, not from up on her perch where she spent most of her time nowadays. Watching them mill about below her with a searing distaste for all but this dark female.

“I come from here, I live here.” Tiamat met, giving a small look up towards where she could scent the other newcomer was standing. “I live in the asteroid belt near here, but I like it here on this ship more. I watch them.” She offered up, only dragging her gaze away from the newcomer as she finished.

She did come from those rocks, but she spent most of her time up on the mast. Even when she grew tired, she clutched onto the wood tightly and let her eyes close.

Ava- mentions Vasilios and Yutaka
Ava flinched at Vasilios' remark about waiting for her dragon. That wasn't the first time she did something stupid like that; it was just that Cassy would usually have stopped her in previous similar situations. She had since lost count on how often the dragon slapped her hands with her tail to stop her from eating or doing dangerous things.

"Well... I might have stuffed a handful of them in my mouth..." Ava said while awkwardly scratching the back of her neck.

If numbness and dizziness were the worst symptoms, then she probably had gotten lucky this time. This could have been a lot worse, Ava thought while accepting and opening her mouth to consume the medicinal herbs from Vas. It tasted bitter like she straight up tried to consume 100% cocoa and she almost spat it back out, but with a determined swallow, forced herself to ingest it.

She turned her attention back to the ship's engineer that introduced himself as Yutaka. When he mentioned her dragon she got all excited, thinking someone was kind enough to go and check up on her, even if she felt Cassy is calm at the moment

"Her name is Cassy - well, actually, Cassiopeia - but just Cassy for short usually," she started saying with a slight smile on her face from thinking about her dragon, her silly puppy as she sometimes refeared to her.
"And... yes, I would appreciate it if you could go check on her and tell me how she is. I'd go check on the silly puppy myself, but first I need to get these berries out of my stomach and get off this bed."

Ava smiled gratefully at Yutaka for a second before she clutched her stomach again, a wave of nausea overcoming her yet again. She hadn't thought the medicine would work that fast, but she had still hoped it would.
Unfortunately, she was wrong.
The engineer - Yutaka - started walking out the door at that point, so hopefully didn't catch her emptying whatever was left of her stomach (and dignity) into a conveniently located bucket at the side of her bed. Maybe, with a bit of luck, she'd get a despite from the berries she'd eaten soon, and the stabbing pain in her abdomen would stop soon.

Cassiopeia- mentiones Urchin, Tiamat
"HIII!" Cassy yelled out in eagerness to the spiky dragon while keeping a watchfull eye on its' spikes. "I'm just traveling around with my human, Ava," she said, now also getting excited about meeting the new dragons and realizing that they actually seemed to be friendly. "I'm called Cassiopeia, what are your names?" She looked around, checking the rest of them out, noticing the other dragon that spoke up was looking at her and she tilted her head listening to it.
"It's been a while since I have been around other dragons!" Cassy said cheerfully before she started bobbing her head excitingly mimicking the dragon covered in spikes.

Shai Mentions: Dir-Dallas & Flux
~

Shai smiled and gave a thumbs up to Flux’s response. He waited until the other men were situated on Java, then gave Ambrose a couple taps on his scales signaling ‘ready for take off’. Shai held tight as Ambrose lifted off the ship and made a quick comment of “please don’t take sharp turns for once” before the flight to the trading post actually began.

~

Space was calm for once. The route Shai had planned out meant no shooting stars that needed dodging and no meteor showers that would make the journey rougher than need be. He leaned into the slight turns Ambrose made and took a quick peek at his hologram map to make sure they were still on the correct course; accidentally getting lost was not something he wanted to deal with today. He turned his head slightly back to make sure Java and everyone was still with him, and nodded to himself when he saw they were.

~

Over midway into the journey had Shai remembering the one thing he hated about space. The cold. It was always cold and no matter what Shai wore, or how many layers he piled on, he could always feel the cold biting at his skin and crawling through his veins-it reminded him too much of home. Shivering a bit, he pressed himself closer to Ambrose. The red dragon always ran hot and never once minded when Shai turned into a human heat leech. Tucked low and somewhat warm, Shai’s eyes began fluttering and he dropped his head between Ambrose’s shoulder blades. He could close his eyes right? Yea, he could close his eyes for a bit.

~

A rough landing and a loud snarl broke Shai out of his nap. He popped his head up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes before taking in where he was at. They had made it to the tradepost, thank the space gods, and Ambrose, being the bastard he is, had snapped at anyone nearby, effectively creating a landing spot for Java and keeping space between them and the other people at the post.

~

Shai waited for the others to land before sliding off Ambrose. He gave the dragon’s head a quick scratch before turning his attention to the others and asking, “So, where do you guys want to go first?”

Dallas | Boatswain | M: Flux, Shai, Javalasii (indir: Vasilios),

and

Javalasii | Chaperone

~

As soon as Java pushed off the ground, Dallas tightened his grip on her thick fur, threading his fingers through her mane like it might ground him. Not because he was nervous about flying—he’d done this more times than he could count. No, this was a different kind of nerves. A Flux-shaped kind of nerves.

Flux was right behind him. Sitting so close that Dallas could feel the faintest shifts of his weight, the brush of his coat, the goddamn warmth of him against his back. It was the kind of thing that would have been normal in any other situation, just two guys sharing a ride, but Dallas’ brain had latched onto it like a starvbed dog and refused to let go. He could already feel the heat creeping up his neck, burning the tips of his ears.

Don’t think about it, he told himself, but of course, that only made it worse.

It wasn’t just the proximity; it was Flux. Flux, who had thrown himself up onto Java like it was nothing, who had that damn grin that made Dallas’ stomach do things he didn’t like thinking about. Flux, who didn’t hesitate to be a little shit, who had called him Toffie in front of Shai like he was testing how much he could get away with. Dallas hated it. He hated how much he liked it.

He exhaled slowly, focusing on the familiar rhythm of Java’s wingbeats. The steady rise and fall, the shift in gravity as she adjusted her course, the subtle vibrations that traveled up through her body and into his own. Focus on that. Focus on the flight.

The cold helped. It always did. The chill of space cut through his heated skin, dragging him out of his own head. He let himself sink into it, absorbing the quiet vastness around them. It was peaceful out here, when the job wasn’t trying to kill them. No distractions, no noise beyond the sound of their dragons’ wings. Just endless, open black, dotted with stars that felt both impossibly distant and strangely close.

For a moment, he let himself pretend that he wasn’t about to land at a tradepost full of chaos and potential disaster. That it was just the four of them, drifting through the void with nowhere to be and no one to bother them. That he didn’t have Flux sitting behind him, completely unaware of the war raging in Dallas’ head.

By the time the tradepost came into view, Dallas had mostly gotten his breathing under control. Mostly. The second Java touched down, he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. She banked her wings down in a smooth motion, making it easy for Flux to slide off first if he wanted. Dallas stayed put for a moment, gripping her mane a little tighter, just long enough to not look like he was bolting.

Then his stomach growled.

Loudly.

Loud enough to make him groan, dragging a hand down his face. “Alright, first order of business—food,” he said, voice dry as he looked down at Shai. “I don’t care where. I just need something in my stomach before I start trying to chew through Java’s fur. Or I’ll go off and do that, and you guys can go shop for your Bose speakers or whatever."

He’d offered, but he really wished they wouldn’t take it.

His stomach twisted again, and not just from hunger. He should’ve grabbed those damn pills from Vasilios before they left. Now he was stuck dealing with the consequences of his own poor decisions. And, judging by the look on Shai’s face, he knew it too.

Dallas swung his leg over Java’s side and dropped onto solid ground, shoving his hands deep into his pockets like that might keep the heat in his face from showing. His stomach was still twisting, half from hunger and half from something else. He shouldn’t be thinking about it. Shouldn’t be thinking about him. But his mind never listened to what it should or shouldn’t do, not when it came to Flux.

Because Flux had always been like this. Always pulling him in, always playing at something that wasn’t really a game but felt like one anyway. Back then, it had been all sharp words and sharper edges, cutting him open with every glance, every insult, every well-placed remark that landed just right. Flux knew what he was doing. Knew how to hurt, knew exactly where to dig in and twist. Dallas had spent years pretending it didn’t get to him, but it did. It did.

He had come so close, back then. So close to snapping. So close to turning that anger outward, away from himself, away from the screaming in his head, and letting it bury itself in something else. Someone else. It had been self-preservation, keeping himself together with sheer force of will. Because if he had snapped—if he had let himslf break—he knew exactly how it would have ended.

Flux wasn’t like that now. Not anymore. But it didn’t matter.

Because this version of Flux? This playful, teasing, grinning version? This version was worse. He wasn’t trying to hurt Dallas anymore. He wasn’t trying to do anything but exist, but that was the problem, wasn’t it? Flux didn’t have to try. He didn’t have to throw punches, didn’t have to spit out cruel words. He was doing so much more damage just by being there.

Because now, every touch, every glance, every grin, every goddamn time he leaned in a little too close—it didn’t hurt in the way it used to. It wasn’t a knife between the ribs, it wasn't a kick to the gut. It was worse. It was gentle. It was something soft, something Dallas had spent years telling himself he didn’t need. It was turning him back into something small and fragile, something he had worked so hard to kill.

It was turning him back into that kid again. That desperate, stupid little kid, begging for something he was never going to get.

Dallas clenched his fists in his pockets, staring at the dust beneath his boots. No. He wasn’t that kid anymore. He wasn’t.

Flux was never going to change. Maybe he wasn’t cruel now, maybe he wasn’t throwing Dallas around or cutting him to pieces with his words, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t still break him.

And the worst part? The absolute worst part?

Dallas knew he was going to let him.
