I hope this helps. Some advice that helped me in my early days, is to look at real picture refs (or subjects you have with you like people or pets) often and as many as possible. Trying to identify the shapes that make up the individual can make drawing them more manageable as well as help with getting proportions right.

And a little bit of a warning. Looking at other art as reference can be good too, but be careful because when first starting out its easy to look at others art and make the same mistakes they might have.
