Gus looked out the window on his right, seeing the lights from their town slowly get dimmer. The dirt road they were on broke the silence every now and then. Gus wasn't brave enough to break it himself, in fear of opening up too much again. He kept his mouth clamped shut and turned to watch Apollow as he drove. Apollow's hair was stark against the dark sky outside his window, but it was a handsome look. Gus pretended to be looking out the window in case his friend turned to see him staring.

On occasion he could catch Gus looking out the window on his side, the ride was quiet and he was thinking of a way to breath the silence. Though he want much good at it. "Almost there, maybe 5 minutes" he said as the made a turn onto a bumpy gravel road. "This place is hard to get to during the winter and the more rainy months." He pulled up to a open grassy field and parked the car. "If your lucky we can find a patch of fireflies, that's always a real treat. I like the way they glow" he reached into the back of the car to grab the blanket and hand it to Gus before he stepped out.

Gus laughed, "Ive always loved fireflies! They make me think of tiny stars down here with us on earth." He took the blanket from Apollow, accidentally grazing the back of his friend's hand in the dark. He quickly grabbed the blanket and opened the door, getting out before anything could be said. His heart pounded in his ears, but he didn't mind the sound in the quiet field. It was almost like the light and heat had been sucked out of this part of the world, leaving it cold and dark, yet strangely peaceful. "Wow," Gus gasped as he looked up at the stars. They were so bright now.

Apollow felt the light graze and smiled to himself. He looked up at the sky and was in awe. "Oh yeah, perfect night, c'mon let's go" he lead the way out to a sparsely leaved tree and sat out a little ways from it. He layer down on his back and stared up at the stars, picking out each constellation from the midst of stars and swirls of purple. "A truly magical place, almost completely cut off from the world" he said and patted the ground beside him.

Gus followed behind Apollow, walking a bit slower as he gazed up at the beautiful night sky. Not much could compare to it, but there are a few things that rise just above it. Gus looked over at Apollow again, watching his friend sit down and offer him a seat. He's better than the sky, Gus thought to himself, sitting down gently on the grass beside Apollow, blanket wrapped around his body. "Would you like the blanket?" Gus asked, because, it was still Apollow's blanket, not Gus's.

He watched as Gus came and sat down next to him. "No its all yours, I brought it for you" he looked over at Gus and recapped the night, it was still kind of early in the night, at least for him it was. He usually didn't sleep until around 2:30 anyways. "Isn't it great? I like to think that maybe somewhere out there someone is looking up at the same sky, thinking the same things as I am." He clasped his hands behind his head as he laid in the grass, admiring the stars.

Gus looked up at the stars as well, but he stayed seated. "That's a nice thought," he yawned, stretching a bit. "I think that I'm someone, looking at the same sky, and maybe thinking the same things as you." Gus finally laid back on the grass, his hands resting on his stomach as he relaxed into the soft ground. "Penny for your thoughts, and Ill give you some of mine?" The offer was simple, but not one he would make very often. He hated sharing his thoughts, but with this boy, it was different.

He shifted a little as the stars twinkled above him. "I'd love to hear some thoughts" he turned onto his side and faced Gus. Apollow found himself anxiously waiting for what the jock was about to say. He never thought someone who was around the people Gus was could be so, nice, and reserved. Sweet even. It was a new experience for him. But not one he would give up for anything,

He chuckled, avoiding looking over at Apollow. "Hah, no. You're up first. I offered you a penny for your thoughts, and after you share, I'll share mine." He glanced over to see Apollow looking at him, making him blush. Luckily for him, it was dark out, leaving little light to see him by. He decided to turn toward Apollow as well, so now the two of them were facing each other in the large, empty field. The silence was so loud, and for a moment, Gus appreciated it before saying, "So?"

"Well, what thoughts do you want to hear?" He began shuffling through a few he'd be willing to share. A few stories, some hot takes on food, maybe even let him in on some ideas for songs he had. Though that last one was a bit scary for him. He watched as Gus turned towards him, and laid on his side as well.
