Merlin bounded towards the river after the others that started going. He kept a watchful eye on every wolf to make sure they were not venturing off. He found the water in eye view and quickened his pace into almost a jog.

Merlin jumped into the river to where he could touch. He started lapping up the water. He felt the current going against his body, but he held on firmly. He lashed his wet tail, beginning to feel different and happy. He slowly climbed his way out of the river, being careful where he placed each paw.

He climbed on the muddy bank as the mud soothed his hot paws. He looked and found Recon next to Doni and Deverick. He tried not to crack a smile at the sight, but failed. He looked at Recon and raised his eyebrows teasing him. He moved to them letting the water droplets drip all over the ground.

He heard Anubis tease and called him Alpha. He stopped in his tracks and slowly turned. He barked “In a second, Anubis. Don’t worry you and Lidiya and someone else will get to go on your own to explore and find something. Just give me a second..”

Merlin was shocked as Anubis nodded at him, but Merlin had a feeling he was up to no good. He went to Recon’s side. He tilted his head at Deverick and Doji.

“Are they alright? I hope so. I need them. Recon, I want you to take 2 wolves of your choosing and go towards the forest. I saw the large trees on the way over. It’s East of here.. I say Take Kiran with you as one of them. And stay on his ass, his puppy self may cause some trouble. Your task is find a possible camp and maybe some prey. If you or whoever you take is hungry, eat.. We will meet back at the kennels before dusk.”

Merlin sat waiting for everyone to gather themselves. He watched the current as his mind raced of everything that needed to be done.

He barked “Whenever everyone feels okay and refreshed. Come over here, I will be giving groups to go to different directions for finding shelter and food.”

Lidiya was as equally relieved as Anubis was beside her as she sank into the shallows and drank her fill. Her throat was almost like sandpaper, now she felt it. And the water was nice, and cooling.

Another wolf with more self-discipline may have simply drunk their fill and left. Certainly, Lidiya knew that over-drinking water after being so parched would have negative effects on her. Right now, though, after she brought back the thirst that she had been hiding earlier, gods the water was good. And fresh.

But right now, listening to Merlin’s speech for once, she shared a brief look with Anubis. Groups? Merlin definitely knew that she liked to do her own thing, and group collaboration… definitely did not fit in that criteria.
Although, Lidiya did recognise the importance of scouting the area. Until further notice, this was where they were staying. Hence, it’d make sense for them to explore it.

She didn’t need to be in a group for that, though. Maybe, if she was with someone she was willing to tolerate like Anubis, she might grudgingly follow Merlin’s orders. But really, she could only wait and see.

Recon's head lifted at the sound of splashing, watching the rest of his packmates cross the river and swallow large gulps of the cool water. His eyes were trained on the smaller wolfdogs and Jeraboa, worried they might slip downstream with the current. Once he was confident they would cross safely Recon's gaze shifted over to Merlin, playfully rolling his eyes before glaring and giving a small shake of his head, indetectable by Doji and Deverick. He took a few steps towards his alpha, wading out of the water to pad over. He watched the pair in the shallow water as he spoke, "They'll be alright. Deverick overheated and the anethesia was giving him a bit of trouble, Doji's just helping him cool off. Doji was a bit wobbly for a bit, but she seems to be alright now."

Recon took a couple steps away from Merlin before shaking the water from his thick coat. Once he had finish ridding himself of the liquid, he looked up and nodded at his alpha. "I'll bring Doji along as well," His reply came a bit too quickly, but he sounded sure of his choice as well, "She'll be good for helping me keep Kiran in check and in one piece. He drives me nuts, only a few months younger than I am, and yet he acts like he's still a four month old pup playing with his littermates. He'll get himself, or someone else killed if he doesn't grow up." Recon kept his voice hushed so only Merlin and he could hear it.

The beta's tail flicked as he heard the pup in question's pawsteps approching. "Do you want me to bring back extras, or just eat what we catch?" Recon asked, sitting down in the muck.

He looked at Recon at who chose. Merlin would usually prod on why. But at this moment he did not care. He may bring it up later, but it wasn’t exactly the time or place to give a Recon some tips. Doji was born and raised in the sanctuary and Merlin babysat her with the other crop of wolf dogs puppies born that year. He heard the reasoning with Kiran as Doji will help up with the large male puppy. He casted a downwards glance toward Doji. She looked like she was in her deep thoughts.

He warned “Doji may be harsher towards Kiran. Kiran left her by herself as she had her issues. His excuse was he forgot about her. But Doji will most likely forgive him if he apologizes. Though she will hold a grudge on him.”

His tail twitched as Recon asked him a question. He barked “Eat what you catch.. Then if you have time. Bring extras. I'm not concerned for the pack to eat together. I'm more concerned when we all eat last. And I don't need any wolf dogs getting aggressive over food.. Plus it gives everyone a chance to see what prey resides in this territory..”

Merlin excuses himself from Recon’s side as he saw Star approach him. He narrowed his eyes at her request. Merlin shook his head at her request. He barked “No. You will go in your groups. I do not care if you are the fastest or strongest. This is unknown territory. We don't know what’s out there.”

Merlin pushed past her in a huff in annoyance. He wanted to explore. Something he would not say out loud. He wasn’t supposed to have fun. But he was so curious about this new place. It made him antsy and ready to roam. He looked at everyone and sat in the middle of everyone.

He barked “Alright let’s get this going. I will be sending out 4 groups. Your tasks are to find a camp for us. If you find prey, eat for yourself and if you have time bring extras back. You will report everything you see that can be useful… I will be leading a group to the mountains that I saw due North.. Echo,and Night will be joining me. Recon will be taking Doji and Kiran towards the forest…”

He casted a look towards the remaining six. Then he looked at Anubis. He decided to give him some freedom and to give him a leadership role for this.

“Anubis, you will be the leader of your group. You will take Lidiya and Deverick. You will go west of the fields… Sable you will be the leader of your group of Star and Jeraboa, Timber. You will stay here in the fields. You will also know where the river is going.”

He nodded at the groups of his choosing.

He finally stated “We will meet back at the kennels before dusk. Do not be late. We don't know what predators or anything that lurks out at nightfall. You are dismissed. And if I get reported that you went away from your groups… You will be punished and I do not care who or why you did so.. Let's find a new home.”
