I agree that it is unreasonable for people to hate a dog breed. Most of these so-called pit bulls (American pit bull terriers) are usually just bully mixes, let alone well-bred APBTs.

However, it is equally important that we respect the breed's history. The APBT was bred for blood sport. Specifically, dog fighting. As such, this breed has an increase risk of dog aggression (not so much human aggression). According to the UKC, some level of dog aggression is expected!

"…Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog." Wow! Right from a major kennel club's breed standard of the American pit bull terrier!

(The American Bully is also described similarly).

'Other kennel clubs might try to downplay the breed's DA tendency in an attempt to reduce the breed's stigma, which I think is equally wrong because it is not an accurate representation of the breed. I would even argue that a well-bred APBT is more likely to display DA.

'In my opinion, I agree with both sides, to some extent. Just like how we think of border collies as shepherd dogs, or huskies as sled dogs, we must also think of the APBT's history to explain their behavioral tendencies. :) It is not unreasonable for people to be uneasy around this dog, especially if one does not know the animal/handler well. The pit bull's aggression is further exacerbated by poor breeding and handling.
That being said, I disagree with the dangerous dog act. Any breed has the capacity to be dangerous. And any breed has the capacity to be kind. Overall, it comes down to nurture, but nature also has its fair share. It is all about finding what works best for the animal!
