Maybe if the kid was 15 then he had him at 20. Hmmm, I'll just make him Max's Uncle he has a strained relationship with or something then. But I gotta focus on my dragons before I make this guy

I did the math. If he was 35, he could have had him at 18 and Max could remain 17.

I did plan on him being 35 :)
I would imagine that be reasonable considering he did marry his wife at 17 in an arranged marriage between the families ( and it would make sense for the times as well ) . So evil shitbag of a dad is a go >:)
