Ah, it's not necessarily a challenge as much as it is that I'm just more used to writing spiteful characters than happy ones. Plus, writing a happy character (especially one who pushes anything bad that happens to them from their mind) in a traumatizing situation and still being able to get across the personality is harder, in general, than writing someone who's already down on their luck going through one. He's fun to write, still; just a matter of experience with the character types, mostly.
