Plasma
______________________
___

Scientifically, plasma is a state of matter where electrons have been stripped away from the atom's nucleus, leaving only a positively charged ion - often described as a gas molecule with charge. Electrostatic forces between charged particles are significant and determine the behavior of the particle, making allowing plasma to conduct electricity or produce magnetic fields. Examples of plasma include neon signs, flourescent light bulbs, and plasma TVs. Plasma is also the most common ordinary substance throughout the entire universe.

See, the universe was just a massive game to the gods. Subatomic particles -- protons, neutrons, electrons, photons, etc -- were just their building blocks. The game was simple. Build something. Some gods grouped together and built wondrous things. The Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy... Some gods competed to see who could build the biggest stars before they blew up. Other gods built things to build things. One god got creative and created revolving rocks with such glorious colors. One rock had a glowing, deep blue essence that some gods envied.

Plasma was created while the gods busily played their games, building their universe and pitting their creations against each other. Born from the remains of abandoned projects, she was filled with bitterness and envy of the emptiness of those forsaken stars. As the gods poured more love and effort into their ongoing efforts, her emptiness only grew until she felt only the need for destruction. She was going to be the light that caught everybody's attention.

But one day, as she wandered with destructive force spewing out of her, she came across the young God of the Blue Essence. He had found a way to create life! She watched, amazed, as his beloved creations lowered themselves to the ground at his Holiness. Her heart dropped as they destroyed each other, all for their love of this one God. Who loved him more? And who loved him the best? She wasn't unlike these mortal beings, despite the vast difference in lifespan. They were filled with such dire need for love, and so was she. And Plasma wondered: whatever created her, did it love her as much as this young God loved his people?

A tear fell from her eye. The shining drop enveloped the planet in radiant color. Immediately, Plasma found she could look into the minds of any organism and glean any information she so desired, from the smallest ant to the largest whale. She sensed their need for survival, to find resources, to find and continue life. Each network between organism was so complex and convoluted, Plasma wasn't sure how the young God had built this little blue rock. But it was absolutely gorgeous. How the green trees contrasted beautifully against the indigo sky, and how different animals utilized their abilities to suit their surroundings. This was not like anything she had ever seen. It certainly wasn't like the rest of the universe, all dustclouds, gases, and stars she had lit afire.

The young God was so happy to find someone who truly appreciated his creations. The other gods, not so much. Still resentful of not being the first ones to develop this oceanic blue marble, they tried their best to destroy it. Asteroids, meteors, solar flares, all descended upon this little blue stone. And Plasma took it upon herself to defend it. She used as much plasma as this little blue stone could hold, allowing it to permeate the atmosphere and burn off most of the harmful particles. The young God helped to fend off the rest of the attacks. Not knowing when the next assault would be, Plasma swore to her new friend that she would help protect his little blue stone. She would see to it that he and his creations had everything they needed.

Plasma found that it was difficult to stay in one place. The environment on Earth was so dynamic that her powers here were unstable. She quickly found glass was a good way to keep her instability contained. She could use her plasma to easily heat up and change the shape of the glass, and so, she tried her best to introduce herself to the creations the young God loved most - the people. She quickly found they didn't like humanoid-shaped creatures who glowed. After a gunshot nearly punctured her glass, Plasma fled civilisation.

While recovering from her injuries, Plasma realized just how unstable she really was. She had caused a massive lightning storm from the puncture wound and destroyed much of the land. The forest she'd taken hiding in was blackened, the trees burnt into solid sticks of ash and charcoal. And in front of her lay the exposed and damaged den of a nursing wolf and her pups. Horrified by her actions, Plasma shifted her glass form into that of a canine and ran toward the den. Initially, Plasma saw nothing until she heard a strange sucking sound at the back of the den. Inside lay a lone pup, suckling desperately from the nipple of its unmoving mother. Her lightning strike had just barely entered the cave and struck the mother's face, killing her instantly. Most of the lightning must have been absorbed by the dirt, for the pup remained relatively unharmed. Only its fur remained spiked, static electricity discharging from it like a Tesla coil.

Her heart sank as she realised the consequences of her instability. An innocent pup nearly killed and a life needlessly taken because of her carelessness. She was going to have to care for this young pup -- it was the only way to pay her dues.
