I think every generation does cringe, incomprehensible shit, especially when they're younger, not much point getting worked up over it in my opinion haha.

Amygdala,

To be fair, they are immature Marines with IQs that are lower than rocks, but, still. It's quite irritating.

Favorite book is Wuthering Heights! Love how I felt claustrophobic reading it. And the horror I felt like watching the characters' inevitable ruin.
Or The Golden Compass for the world building and the characters. The whole novel feels magical and there's this nostalgic / melancholy atmosphere throughout the book. I haven't gotten my hands on the sequels but to be honest I'm kind of afraid that it might not be as good as the first one.
Or Edensor... absolutely magical. Gorgeous prose. I was awed by how my own language could be so beautiful after reading it. The ending left a deep impression on my younger self.
Hard to pick one haha.
As for favorite book character... to be honest, no one comes to mind.

Currently my favorite book is Lets Pretend this Never Happened :3 It's actually a mostly truememoir, as the author would describe it, so my favorite character is probably the author Jenny Lawson
It's super humor and I found myself tearing up on multiple occasions from the comedy in it.
On the other hand my other favorite would probably be The Song of Achilles, my favorite character being Patroclus for obvious reasons. One of my biggest reasons being that I found him to be extremely relatable. It's a historical fiction (partly) about the demigod Achilles and his life alongside his childhood "friend" Patroclus ;3
