Spiritchaser- (looks up at the dragonlings who were ten times the size of the humans but around her size when she transformed) Cavare, (her speech was a bit murky as she was used to dragonling language, not human) Who are these creatures? Where did they come from?
Fireweaver- (who knew a bit of human since they were part dragon part dragonling) We are dragonlings. You?
Spiritchaser- (points excitedly) She speaks like me!
Cavare- Calm down. (looks at Fireweaver) Can you understand me?
Fireweaver- (nods) Yes, I can.
Cavare- I am Cavare, this woman is Spiritchaser and this is my sister Camarie. We are of the Xavarians and the Tribes. Who are your friends?
Fireweaver- (notices her brothers were confused and quickly translates) This is Earthshaker and Oceantide. We’re all of the dragonlings. When you say Tribe, do you mean the Tribe of Elders? Or the Dragon Tribes of Fire, Water, Earth and the Legendary Ancestors?
Cavare- (shakes head) There’s eight Tribes here into four categories. There’s the Scorpion and Thorn Tribes of the Desert, Dragonfly and Firefly Tribes of the Rainforest, Dragon and Shark Tribes of the Coast and the Rabbit and Buffalo Tribes of the Plains. And there’s the Xavarians, in no Tribe, but live in the Desert.
Fireweaver- (translates for her brothers)
Oceantide- Dragon?
Fireweaver- (quickly translates for the Xavarians) What my brother’s saying is do you know how the Dragon Tribe of the Coast came to be?
Cavare- (looks to Camarie)
Camarie- (shrugs) Nobody really knows. Why?
Fireweaver- In our world, we dragonlings came from dragons but dragons went extinct a century ago for no known reason.
Camarie- (turns to Cavare) Nobody knows the origin of the tribes, do they?
Cavare-(shakes head) not their names. Fireweaver, Oceantide and Earthshaker, do you mind if we take you to our leader? He might be more familiar with the history of our Tribes.
Fireweaver- (translates for her brothers and they both nod their heads)
Cavare- (sighs) Thanks. Follow me. ( He headed north toward a dip in the ground.
Earthshaker- (walks to Fireweaver) They live underground. (he said in the dragonling language)
Fireweaver- (Sees the immediate problem) Are the tunnels big enough?
Earthshaker- No. I can feel them.
Fireweaver- (gently poked at Cavare) Excuse me, Earthshaker told me you lived underground. Are the tunnels big enough?
Cavare- (suddenly realizes this might be a problem) Camarie, you stay here with the dragonlings. I’ll get Camus and Prohe. Maybe Vamhiro too.
Camarie- Good idea. Get Vamhiro. And fast.
Fireweaver- (watches Cavare run away and sees Spiritchaser staring at her) You’re Spiritchaser, right?
Spiritchaser- (nods) Yes.
Fireweaver- Your name is different. Almost dragonling-ish. And your speech. Your human is slurred a bit like most dragonlings. And most dragonlings can’t even speak human. Du spana dracon? (do you speak dragon?)
Spiritchaser- (gasps) That’s Xavarian!
Fireweaver- Xavarian?
Spiritchaser- Mi spana dracon y du dese smale. (I speak dragon and they seem to be the same)
Fireweaver- So dragon is Xavarian. I wonder why.
Earthshaker- Fireweaver, I just thought of something. Didn’t Razortooth say…?
Fireweaver- (stares at Earthshaker) No way, in the name of the Council, no way that’s true.
Spiritchaser and Oceantide- What?
Earthshaker- (points to Fireweaver) you tell them
Fireweaver- (sighs) Fine. Spiritchaser, our caretaker, Razortooth once told us we had a sister named Spiritchaser.
Cavare- (comes over the hill leading five humans before Spiritchaser could utter a reply) There they are!
Fireweaver- Didn’t he say Camus, Prohe and Vamhiro? Who’s the other two?
Cavare- That’s his father Teria and previous best friend, Tokyo. Oh, Cow is also here! (points to another slower figure behind the five)
Fireweaver- Do they know dragon?
Spiritchaser- (cuts in) As far as I’m concerned, dragon and Xavarian are the same thing. Yes they speak Xavarian so they should speak dragon.
Fireweaver- (nods) Thanks. I just wanted to make sure my brothers could be a part of the conversation. (points to Earthshaker and Oceantide)
Prohe- Cavare! Are those the dragons you were talking about?
Cavare- Dragonlings. A smaller version of dragons but the same in the common sense. Speak Xavarian so they can all understand.
Fireweaver- (in dragon) I’m Fireweaver and these are Earthshaker and Oceantide, we’re all of the Tribe of Elders, banned from the main Dragonling Kingdom because of our appearance.
Prohe- (replies in Xavarian) Hello, Fireweaver. I’m Prohe, the leader of the Scorpion Tribe of the Desert. This is Cow, leader of the Buffalo Tribe of the Plains, Tokyo, member of the Dragonfly Tribe of the Rainforest, Camus, my second in command, Vamhiro, an Ex and a friend of Cavare’s and our savior, and Teria, the leader of the Xavarians.
Earthshaker- (in dragon) nice to meet you all. We were wondering how to get back to our world. Razortooth must be worried.
Prohe- (in Xavarian) Your world?
Fireweaver- (in dragon) We come from a world of dragonlings and birds of fire. We never met others like you until now. We believe we came here, to a different world, through a portal hidden in a symbol.
Prohe- We never heard of your world.
Oceantide- We never heard of yours either.
Teria- You said you were banned? How?
Fireweaver- They said we looked too much like the dragon Tribes of Earth, Fire and Water.
Spiritchaser- (cautiously) Teria, Camus, Prohe, it’s probably time for me to reveal something. (she concentrated and before their eyes she turned into a beautiful slender dragon, with a shimmering red body, purple and pink wings, and an icy blue tail) Fireweaver, Earthshaker and Oceantide, it’s true I am your brother.
