I usually make the original image, edit it (for that one I use 3 slides and close the eyes) and then insert them into a gif maker. Not the best for big images but it works for the pixels :)

As far as I know, there has never been a removed defect and I doubt that would happen without some sort of notice (if it ever happened at all). This bug has happened before and was resolved with no major issues. I'm sure that Eve is getting to it and that nothing is being taken away.
