Joel B. Yorick
He has been alive for a long while, Sorcerers can live hefty lives when they're lucky. What is it...? Nearing five hundred in a few months. Pft, doesn't look a day over thirty.
Male
Heterosexual
~
Species:
He is a Magical, considered more of a Druid in class than the standard sorcerers.
Faction / side
Neutral
He takes his duties as a buffer between Mundanes and Mystics very serious.
Appearance
Joel has red coppery hair, rather shaggy in nature with noticeable curls occasionally occurring. Styled in the rather simple "Sides cut shorter than the Top" fashion often found on men, his hair is swept back and kept out of his face. Joel stands 5'11", with a rather stocky build. His eyes are a deep blue, simple and unwavering.
His features are rugged and stark, a long sullen face, sharp eyes, and a near permanent frown. Upon his chin is a beard, styled similar to that of the Verdi style. He has faint frown lines upon his brow and forehead lines on his... well, forehead.
His only real signs of aging besides a few stray grey hairs on his beard.
His attire is simple, Joel has never been one for frivolous things preferring functionality. He wears a worn grey henley shirt under an olive green overcoat. His pants are simple black slacks paired with tall leather boots. Around his waist is a tanned leather belt with a variety of different items.
Various herbs... A strange bone daggar... Vials of poisons and medicines... A gjallarhorn... Charcoal pencils... And a Dream Catcher?
Sitting on his right shoulder is a satchel, holding what looks to be various scrolls littered with runes, ledgers, and history.
Upon his body is numerous tattoos, runes inscribed on his skin. They are capable of many feats, but the most known is the runes on his forehead, two palms, and his chest. Each rune has special features to help counter the abilities of certain Mystic's abilities. For example, the runes upon his head help aid in overcoming the songs of Sirens.
These runes are only visible when his magic has been activated which alters the color of his eyes, from blue to red.
His voice is rather baritone, with a strange floaty quality to it. His voice feels distant, a little slow, yet clear to anyone who's heard it. Carried with a heavy Mancunian accent, his voice feels crisp and distinct.
"God... Wish that'd go away.
Personality
Joel is a genius according to some and to others he is a crazy.
It is known by many amongst his Order that much of his youth was spent in isolation. He journeyed for many years seeking information on his rare magical affinity to grow his skill, and it has been fruitful.
He is very philosophical, having learned much about various beliefs during his travels. Joel is can be very sagely and offer great advice, but ironically he seems unable to help himself.
He is also a rather superstitious individual, picking up odd quirks from others. Joel is adamant that the, "salt circle method", works in repelling vampires for example. Whether or nor these superstitions are real is obviously debatable.
Despite the pseudo-magics, his true magics are quite remarkable given his rather difficult affinity. Currently he has found ways to counter demonic fire, siren song, and the natural magic sensitivity of Mystics... While not beating some of the more powerful abilities of these beings, he would take every advantage he can get for the fulfillment of his duties: the protection of Mundanes.
Joel holds the concepts of duty in high regard. The idea of fulfilling your role to the best of your abilities, doing whatever is necessary to complete it. Joel fancies himself as a "Peace Keeper", while he stays out of the War, he does his utmost to prevent Mystics from revealing their true nature to the Mundanes.
"Their little human minds would simply pop at the idea of Angels and Demons... God. The religious sectors would be all over that, huh?".
Joel can often be found talking down to Mundanes. It's not in a harmful way mind you, he simply finds them... weak. They lack the strength to challenge the Mystics in physical manners... Yet at least. He admires them truly, he just has an odd way of admitting it. They are tenacious, and adaptable. Despite the fact they live such short lives, they seem to be capable of altering the course of thousands of years of history... It's honestly incredible.
Still, Joel is a cynic, and he would never admit that out loud. He often keeps his more positive thoughts restrained in favor of snarky comments, various taunts, jokes, and generally anything that others can deem as, "bullshit". He finds it makes his positive comments hold more weight, the good Ol' Carrot - Stick routine.
Another value Joel holds in high regard is the concept of justice. The idea of someone being punished for their wrong doings is something the Mystic community severely needs, an authority figure who can truly back up their ability to control the population.
Order could hopefully stop the war, and make his job A LOT easier...
As of now, it's simply wild chaos. There is no law and order, only rules established via traditions and the natural law.
"Thou shall not kill, and all that jazz... How did the Mundanes get it first?".

Backstory (optional)
He would rather not share much, and little really know it...
It's obvious he was born in the 1500s, somewhere in a Northern English province given his accent... Likely Manchester.
What little is known about the Yorick family is fragmented, and if pieced together one can see the clear aftermath of a large-scale falling out. A literal family civil war.
Sometime after, Joel journeyed to study his magics to a fuller extent, hoping to master his affinity for runes. He is said to have spent much time in Scandinavia, Germania, and East Asia.
Everything afterwards is vague... Occasional rumors and reports.
The Hermit Mage, Joel was seen battling rouge demons in the the forests of Prussia... Joel is dealing with a Vampire's black market for Mundane Blood over in Ottoman Lands... Joel's helping the Allies by tampering with German attempts to discover magical artifacts...
While some are true, others are total bull.
Currently, like always, he is simply wandering the World and interfering when needed.
Strengths
Understanding abstract ideas, due to his traveling Joel can understand many different view points, which aids in his neutral system.
Joel is a skilled warrior in the sword, which is hidden somewhere on his person. Being able to fight is always useful in his line of work.
He has no conflicting morals, he has found resolve long ago. All he wishes to do is guide the youth on to a less self destructive path.
Joel is very creative, which is essential for his type of magic.
Weakness
Joel has little faith in other people, while he hopes to sway other people to his ideals of bringing Order to the Mystic society, he doubts its possible.
He has a bias towards vampires. Bloodsucking parasites... It's normally them who cause leaks in the Mystic community, feasting on the blood of Mundanes.
Joel is seen by some as a crazy old man. Simple as that, he can be very eccentric at times despite his inner seriousness. He just can't fight his nature, who doesn't like to have a little fun?
His magic is very narrow in scope for combat. While he has various runes places on his body and inscribed on scrolls, their uses are limited to only what they are distinctly made for. It means he is limited on the types of spells he can cast in a specific encounter, which means fights are harder when he simply has to improvise.
Joel finds it difficult to relate to many mystics now and days... Due to his age, he feels like his mind is stuck in the past, that he is always struggling to catch up. The days sort of just blurred together at some point.
Powers (if any)
His Magic is very broad and vague due to its nature, runes.
While time consuming and rather tedious, a well made rune can act as a permanent spell locked upon an item or person.
The applications of his power is vague, as a rune is essentially written symbols with magic imbued into them. All that matters is the correct corresponding symbol and the intention of the user. This means it is very difficult for the creation of new runes, and is a rather difficult magic to advance.
It's a dying art if anything.
