Obviously Calixto had no idea where he was supposed to get water from. But before he could ask, Christopher had already gotten a water bottle so he just followed suit. He then he preceeded to chug down the water, wanting to quench the thirst that had taken over him while he had been working. Halfway through the bottle, Calix heard Christopher's quiet words. He immediately stopped drinking to look at the other boy with an unreadable expression on his face. 'I really messed up, didn't I?' Calix thought to himself. If he could've glared at himself, he would've. "Are... you okay?" Calix asked hesitantly, unsure of what to say to make things better, especially when he didn't even know what was wrong. Christopher's answer only made Calix frown as he clenched his hands into fists.
.
'Stay calm. Stay calm. Yelling at him won't help anything. Even if you're mad, getting onto him will only make things worse. What would your old self do? Come on, Calixto. Socializing shouldn't be this hard. Just calmly say something. You can do this-' Before Calixto could finish giving himself his internal pep talk, Christopher was already heading out to leave. "Just wait a freaking second, idiot!" The words tumbled out of Calix's mouth before he could think as he jumped forward to grab Chris's arm in an attempt to stop him from leaving.
.
"Ugh, making me think so hard is really freaking rude, you know that?!" Calixto continued, the words falling out completely unfiltered. "Why the heck are you suddenly acting like you're about to go kill yourself or something?! I hate it, okay?! And I'm sorry about whatever I did, so please just stop acting like this. You're just making me worry! I may dislike little kids and orphan food and orphanages in general, but I hate when people act like you are even more! So just tell me the heck is wrong so we can be over this already." Calix turned away with an angry sigh, yanking a hand through his sweaty hair as he added, "Aren't first days supposed to be chill? Why did you have to go and act like you're melting? Did the sun get to you or something?"
.
Just then it dawned on him. Calixto quickly spun around to face Christopher fully, his eyes wide with recognition. "You heard me, didn't you? When I went off about orphanages and manners thing? That's why you're upset, isn't it? Look, I was just angry. I didn't really mean it. And anyway, let's not forget I'm an orphan too. If you have no manners, then I'm trash compared to you. You're so kind, please don't let me ruin that. I'm so sorry, so please just forget what I said. You can even hate me if you want and make my life even worse than it is, but please don't change." Calix pleaded, his tone becoming more emotional and earnest than he meant to and would have liked. But he had no choice - he couldn't bare to watch someone turn into something like himself. He wouldn't allow it. He just couldn't.
