Dallas | Boatswain | M: Flux, Shai, Ambrose, Javalasii (indir: Yutaka

~

Dallas was trying his best to focus on the immediate task at hand—getting to the top deck, finding Ambrose, getting the whole group in the air, and, ideally, not making a complete fool of himself. It should’ve been simple. It should’ve been.

But then Flux did that whole dramatic thing again. The fake pout, the batting of lashes, and the over-the-top hand on his chest as if Dallas had just accused him of murdering puppies or something. It wasn’t that Flux was a bad actor, it was that Dally knew he was playing him, and somehow that made it even worse. His stomach did this weird flip at the thought, at the way Flux turned everything into a joke. He felt the sharp tug of annoyance mixed with something he couldn’t quite name, but it didn’t matter, right? He was supposed to be ignoring that feeling, focusing on the task.

But—God, the way Flux had just looked at him.

Dally just kept his eyes focused on his feet as they climbed, resisting the urge to keep glancing sideways at Flux. He didn’t want to let on that Flux’s teasing was hitting a little too close to home. So instead, he played it cool, trying to match Flux’s banter with his own edge.

“I don’t take you for anything,” Dally shot back, the teasing edge in his voice a little sharper than he meant. “Just—don’t go picking up anything that'll explode and take us all down. Maybe leave the ‘sordid’ purchases for another time, yeah?”

His smirk widened as Flux threw out that pout, feeling a strange sense of victory at the playful back-and-forth. It was just... so easy to bait him, even though Dallas knew Flux was a master at it himself. The little jabs were starting to feel more like a game than an annoyance, and it caught him off guard. He wasn’t used to this, but damn if it wasn’t fun.

Dallas shook his head, keeping his eyes trained on the ground as they climbed. He didn’t want to look too eager, didn’t want Flux to catch onto how much the playful back-and-forth was... well, working.

“I’ll make sure I grab some high-tech gear too,” he added with a grin, “so we can have a proper tech showdown, right? Maybe I’ll pick up something that’ll make you regret calling me ‘Toffie’.” He glanced sideways, letting the words hang in the air, then shrugged like he didn’t care all that much.

At the sudden landing of Ambrose, Dally was jerked from his own teasing thoughts, and he barely suppressed the urge to flinch at the thud. He let out a small laugh, brushing off the unexpected reaction as he turned toward the dragon.

"Right, Java’ll be along in a bit." Dallas nodded, his hand absently smoothing back his hair. Ambrose was one hell of a sight, massive and intimidating. But Dally wasn’t intimidated—he knew how to handle his dragon.

When Shai mentioned Yutaka tagging along, Dallas shot Flux a sly look, raising an eyebrow. “Are we waiting for Yutaka, or are you planning on making him chase us down?” he teased, feeling that familiar warmth creeping up at the thought of Flux’s attention. Dammit, why did it have to be this hard to play it cool?

Flux, of course, was back to his usual self, throwing out more jargon that Dally barely followed. But he didn’t let it throw him off. Instead, he leaned in a little, giving Flux a look of mock sympathy. “Don’t worry, I’ll try to pick up something sensible so you’re not drowning in Boze-Einstein whatever-it-is tech that only you can understand.”

Then, with a quick glance over to Ambrose, Dallas reached out and gave the dragon a friendly pat on the side, pretending to focus on the huge creature as a way to distract himself from the growing tension between him and Flux. He couldn’t deny that he was enjoying this—more than he should be.

He turned his attention to the deck, his gaze flickering over the other dragons before he spotted Javalasii, sat away from the others—of course—, looking up at the sky. “Java!” He yelled in Human, and then switched quickly to Dragon as he watched her arch her head towards him. “Get ‘yer ass over here, we’re going shoppin’!”

Javalasii | Chaperone | M: Dallas (indir: Vasilios, Shai, Flux, Ambrose)

~

The shout of her human startled her slightly, the spikes she had just managed to flatten raising slightly and poking out from under her fur. Java turned her head, flaring her wings slightly in irritation as she glared at him with icy, pale blue eyes. She rose to her talons, much to her disdain. Natural of him to order her around, but she’d gotten used to it. She’d do it to make him happy.

Javalasii stalked over to Dallas, eyeing him. “Bandage?” She growled, nodding at the poorly wrapped garment. “Did you go to Vasilios, or did you do it yourself?” She already knew the answer to that question. Vas would never dare wrap something that bad, and Dally would have been in the medbay longer than he was. Java fluffed up her fur. “You’re an idiot. You should still be in there.”

She turned her head to look at Shai, then—Flux. Oh, Flux. The poor man. If Java could feel emotions strongly, she’d feel horrible for him. Having Dallas attached to her side was bad enough—she couldn’t imagine how he felt. Then she turned to look at Ambrose. She’d never been fond of him. A small tip of her head in greeting was all that was needed.

Ava - mentiones Vasilios
~
Ava clutched her stomach as another sharp pain rippled through it.
With a small groan, she turned to the man - Vasilios, and attempted some words.
"Cassiopeia is my dragon, Cassy for short. As for what I ate..."
Ava briefly looked away from Vasilios, focussing on a point on the wall above her in embarrassment.
"... I think I blame the berries."
Who in their right mind gets poisoned by freaking berries out of all things? Ava thought that to herself, but unfortunately, she also had no idea how to make it look at her with any brighter of a light.
After all it was her fault that she'd eaten the berries, and there was no way around it.

Ava continued her speech, re-focussing on Vasilios again.
"Cassy went on patrol ahead to find a good place to rest for the night and to hunt for herself. I was hungry, so I checked my satchel for food and found berries in there."
~
Another sharp pain shot through her stomach and Ava groaned in pain again and attempted to clutch her stomach to ease the pain.
~
"I... I Guess I only have myself to blame. I was never able to recognize good and bad plants and instead of waiting for Cassy to check if they are good or not as usual I ate them without thinking." She paused, recollecting what had happened. "I remember excruciating pain, and then I woke up here."
~
She looked up at Vas, meeting his concerned gaze.
"Sorry about that," Ava smiled sadly before trying to get up - and failing. Suddenly, she began to feel sick and dizzy. Only, this time, she remained conscious as she collapsed back on bed.

~~~
Cassiopeia - mentions Urchin, Tiamat
After waving to the dragons and receiving no reaction, Cassy cocked her head, attempting to study them. She noticed the spiky looking dragon had no eyes. Interesting, Cassy thought to herself. She decided to get closer to the weird looking dragon to study it better - never in her life has she seen such an interesting looking critter, and she decided in the moment that she had to get to know it better.
Careful of it's many spikes she tried to sniff the creature while still trying to seem nonthreathning.
Vasilios | Ship Medic | Mentioned; Ava, Yutaka [Direct]
Vasilios nearly jumped out of his skin as the engineer called his name, half expecting yet another patient to be dropped onto him. To his surprise, and slight glee, it was a shopping request. He brightened up, digging around in his side bag for a moment before pulling out a folded list.
"Ah-- god, if yer wouldn't mind." He replied, entirely glossing over Yutaka's failed attempt at finding the correct word - Vasilios couldn't remember what anything was called either.
He unfolded the list before handing it to Yutaka, everything neatly organised and written in Vas's classic, mechanical handwriting, honestly looked more akin to a printer than a human-made. Everything was neatly organised down to where items could be found and in order of which shops were closest - he liked to be efficient after all.
"Honestly if ya manage to find even half of the shite on this list you'll be doing me a massive favour." He admitted, dipping his head. "Though I'm sure yer engine parts take priority, eh? Hope it's nothing too costly thas' broken." Vasilios added with a smile.
Upon hearing the woman speak up again, it occurred to him that he likely should have asked for her name. Well, poisoning came first in terms of severity, he second guessed. With the crew he accompanied, eating poisonous berries was quite possibly the least embarrassing reason to need to come into the medical office. He'd seen it all - 'I got my hand stuck in this jar and we got the dragon to melt it off but now my hand is covered in molten glass' to 'I got too focused and haven't drank water in the past two days' to 'I wanted to know what the engine soot tasted like'. He'd seen and heard it all and could likely continue on mentally rattling off moronic tales until he dropped dead.
"Mhm hmm.." He hummed, thoughtfully. "Could ya tell me what the berries looked like?" He asked tentatively.
"In the meantime, I'm gonna give yer something that's gonna make you throw up, not the most pleasant but 's best to get whatever you ate out of yer stomach. We can find ya something more suitable to eat later."
As she tried to stand up, Vasilios put his arm out, blocking her from getting much further. "Please stay sat, miss. Last thing we want is ya falling and banging yer head too." He warned.
Once sure that she would stay in place, he stepped away back to the other counter. "We'll worry about blame and whatever else later, les' get it outta yer system first." He called back to her whilst grabbing an assortment of items off the shelves dotting the office.
[I'll get a post up for Urchin tomorrow trust trust]
Yutaka - Engineer - Mention(s): Vasilios, Ava (ind: Mylo, if they're still in the medbay)
~
Yutaka nodded, pocketing the sheet of paper - and transferring a faint trace of oversaturated oil condensate onto it upon doing so. Like he had done with Flux's paper. His hair. The wall. The seat of his pants. And... uh, basically, whatever he'd touched after leaving the engine bay - god forbid that he could ever wash it off of his hands with how he washed them. That is, to say - putting them palms-down under a tap for a few seconds.
If he couldn't see it, it didn't matter that much, did it?
Vas's query of what he was going to get lit up his face. Maybe it wasn't such a waste of time to be doing this after all.
"A Boze-Einstein 92-P tetraquark coherence regulator, really. It's maybe fifty thousand credits or so -" he cringed slightly at the big number "- but then without it the oversaturated oil condensate and the arterial fusers will improperly balance the coherence of the condensate, which it was doing." Fully in the zone now, he continued rambling on, unaware of who exactly he was talking to - read, a person who probably had no idea what he was saying.
"Without the correct vibrations of the condensate, the octolateral imbalance of the internal pumps of the engine may cause it to rapidly disassociate itself with the core quantum lighter, which in turn will imbalance the levels of hyperthin liquid hydraulic, leading to condensate clots, and-" Yutaka caught himself as he looked around, and realized where exactly he was.
It was the freaking medbay. No-one of which who might have vaguely understood him was here.
"- and... ah... yeah. Uhhh... nothing that can't be fixed." He smiled encouragingly, trying to brush past what he had just said.
His attention was distracted, however, as the woman spoke again, and Yutaka looked at her curiously. He'd definitely never seen her before. And as Vas... was 'jumped into action' the right word here?... he looked curiously between the two of them, thoughts of the coherence regulator and the resultant issues that may have occured within itself momentarily forgotten.
"What's your name?" Yutaka almost suprized himself when he said it, even though it had occurred to him a few seconds ago. He hadn't considered it, but he just said it.
He didn't say it with any ill intent in his voice. He was just genuinely curious. Quite a neutral tone, really. Although, it wasn't like he had good social skills - the day that Yutaka acquired excellent social skills would be the day the crew would grow wings and be able to fly without their dragons. Which was likely a long time away.
Yutaka moved from the doorway, where he'd been rambling on, to the side of the bed. People finding and landing on their base - that was rare. Extremely so, in fact, and even rarer that they landed here without Cap's permission.
Even rarer was the fact that said person was also medically incapitated. By... berries.
Honestly, it was more valid than Yutaka's most common reason for coming to the medbay, which was from having too much fun with engine maintenance. What was the count now? Yutaka wasn't keeping track, but if Vas was, he wouldn't be suprized at whatever number he pulled out.
So what was this woman doing here? Was she a spy? Or did she genuinely need help?
More importantly, why here? They weren't a very common destination - or really a known destination at all. And Yutaka would figure this out, hopefully - starting with this person's name.
Ava - mentiones Vasilios, Yutaka
~
Ava was so distracted by Vas she didn't even notice another guy coming in until Vas gave him what looked like shopping list to him. The guy then proceeded to talk about... stuff.
To be honest, Ava stopped listening to him after a couple of words - she didn't even know what language they came from. Instead she decided to take a closer look at him, ignoring everything he was saying with glazed eyes, while she waiting for Vas to give her medicine to puke. He seemed kind and apparently very talkative. She also noticed there was a lot of oil stains all over him. Ava could conclude, as the guy kept talking, that he probably was someone who repaired stuff based on the few words she gathered from the conversation him and Vas were having.
~
Suddenly, he asked her for her name, and Ava was shocked into silence for a second before responding. "...Huh? Um... do you mean me? I'm Ava." The sudden question clearly had taken her by suprise but from what she had gathered, he seemed like a trustworthy fella.
~
"And you? What's your name?" she asked in return.
~
"Oh right... Vasilios... right? I think I might still have a few of those berries in my sachel. Give me a second-" Ava reached into her satchel that was left forgoten on the floor next to the bed. After some seconds of digging around she pulled out a few small, round red berries. "No clue what these are called, but... it was what I ate." Ava ducked her head slightly in embarrassment as she said that again.
Shai Mentions: Dir-Java, Dallas, Flux, Ambrose; Indir-Yutaka
~
Shai watched the look of confusion cross Flux’s face then continued to watch as Dallas poked fun at the forgetful man. Leaving them to their own conversation, Shai pulled out a mini holograph tablet and screened up a map of the current system they were in along with the location of the trade post. A couple latitude and longitude calculations later had him finally deciding on the route they would be taking.
~
He walked over to Java, gave her a small pat on the side, and launched into a quick brief of the trip to the fluffy dragon. “Just in case Ambrose decides to be a bastard and we lose track of each other, here's the plan”. He angled his tablet towards her and started pointing out which stars they would be using as travel markers and which route they would be taking in order to avoid the asteroid belts. Shai had full confidence in the fluffy dragon of being able to correctly navigate to the post in case problems arose.
~
He gave Java one more pat on the side before making his way over to Ambrose and giving him a slight tug on the wing. Shai batted his eyelashes and gave the red dragon a manic grin, “Your favorite fleshy human is in need of assistance.”
~
With an eye roll and slightly amused huff, Ambrose crouched down and lowered his wing. Shai took the opportunity to climb up his back and get himself situated before calling down to Flux and Dallas. “For the sake of my non-existent patience and sanity, I vote we leave now and meet up with Yutaka later at the trade post. Sounds good?”
