Backstories can be written as scenes ;D unless i suppose yokuâÂ€Â™re submitting to a specific project that has a format requirement?

My backstory documents are a mess. But they work.

I write scenes to get into their heads and get to know them, or to have a reference for a very crucial past momentâÂ€¦. I also find it more interesting and engaging so it holds my focus better.

Then i just jot down other stuff in bullet lists, the details like âÂ€Âœhas a scar on left eye.âÂ€Â If iâÂ€Â™ve come up with a reason for it ill add a note to it, but idk

You could start with just some details and lists on the page, then from there, push the text around until youâÂ€Â™ve got it restructured in the format you want?

I talk to them all the time. Like my brain has turned them into actors and I'm the director (Which means there are so many bloopers and behind the scenes)

I mean, it it's a scene-type thing, easy for me to do. I can do scenes no problem.

Backstories--that's where I want to pull my hair out. It's less of a scene and more of a ... sort of essay i guess.

When i get stuck on writing, i break it down into an interview with the character kinda.

I ask a question, maybe something iâÂ€Â™m curious about- and then i write down the absolute first things that come to mind in response, even if itâÂ€Â™ just stray details.

Idk if thatâÂ€Â™ll you or not, but itâÂ€Â™s one way IâÂ€Â™ve learned to kinda kick the creative writing flow going. ItâÂ€Â™s like removing pebbles from a damn. Eventually, youâÂ€Â™ll build up enough details to be able to tumble right into writing a full scene.
