Feo’s brows furrowed as he leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms tightly. He listened to Lucius lay out the plan, but the word “fly” snagged his attention and refused to let go.
-
“Fly?” Feo repeated slowly, his voice laced with confusion. He straightened, tilting his head at Lucius. “Wait—fly? With our... wings? All the way to Dodge?”
-
His tone teetered somewhere between incredulity and disbelief. He glanced toward the window as if imagining the sheer distance between them and their destination. “That’s—what, hours? Days? Do you know how far Dodge City is? I’m not exactly an expert on aerial travel, but that’s not a short trip.”
-
He shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck as he processed the idea. “And what if someone sees us? We’re not exactly inconspicuous flapping around like oversized birds. What if we get caught? Or shot at? You can’t just… I mean, is this seriously the best option we’ve got?”
-
Despite his resistance, Feo could see the logic in Lucius’s plan. Flying would bypass roadblocks, get them out of town quickly, and minimize the chances of being followed. But the sheer absurdity of it—and the physical toll it would likely take—left him hesitant.
-
“You’re sure about this?” Feo asked cautiously, his sharp eyes narrowing as he studied Lucius. “Because if we’re going to take to the skies, we’d better be damn sure it’s worth the risk. The last thing we need is for me to crash into some billboard halfway there.”
-
Still, the idea churned uneasily in his stomach. Feo wasn’t afraid of heights—not while flying with his own two wings, at least—but the thought of spending hours flying, exposed and vulnerable, set his nerves on edge. And then there was the matter of their pursuer. If the woman—or whoever was working with her—had the means to track them, flying might not solve anything.
-
He leaned back against the wall, exhaling slowly as he tried to make sense of the situation. “Look, I get it,” he said after a moment. “We don’t have a lot of options. But flying? That’s a hell of a gamble, even for us. Are we sure she’s not waiting for something? Watching us to see what we’ll do next?”
-
Feo’s gaze hardened as he continued, his mind churning with the possibilities. “If we leave tonight, we need to be absolutely certain no one’s following us. No trails, no loose ends. Because if she—or anyone else—finds us again…”
-
He didn’t finish the sentence, the implication heavy in the air. Instead, he rubbed his temple and sighed, his frustration clear. “Alright, fine. Let’s say we do this. What happens when we get to Dodge? Do we lay low? Or keep moving? Because if this woman really is tied to Loki, she’ll find a way to keep us in her sights.”
-
Feo’s gaze flicked back to Lucius, his arms dropping to his sides as he tried to push past his doubts. “I just don’t want us walking into something we can’t handle,” he admitted quietly. “But if you think this is the best move, then fine. Let’s do it. Just… don’t expect me to enjoy any part of this.”
-
He crossed his arms again, glancing toward the window one more time. Despite his reservations, he trusted Lucius. Together, they’d faced worse odds before. Whatever this woman had planned, they’d find a way to beat her—one way or another.

Lucius paused as Feo questioned the plan he had. If he was entirely honest with himself, he really didn't want to try and fly that far. But at the same time, what other option did they have? He really didn't know what other options they had at the moment.

"I... I don't know," Lucius finally admitted his hands pushed up into his golden hair. "I don't know. I just know I don't like her, she's not right, but I don't know how dangerous she could be and I don't want to leave a trail--even if it's a money trail," he turned from the window and continued pacing back and forth. Was he dumb enough to do something like try and fly out there? Yeah. He was. But with Feo pressing reservations about it, he wasn't sure now. But what other option did they have?

Tell her they were leaving and then not leave? Try and... what other option did they have? A bus?

Maybe a greyhound but Lucius didn't know where those would end up. Or if she would get on. Then what? What could they do then?

Did they leave now? Or did they wait till night?

"She absolutely is watching us to see what we do," Lucius insisted, mostly to himself, "but I can't see her. I lost track of her and that... that's the worst thing I could've done. I should've kept an eye on her to make sure I knew where she was going and what she was doing--"

His hands tangled up in his hair again, staring at the floor beneath his feet as he paced back and forth. From window to door, door to window, his footsteps were rhythmic and steady. Fly? That was his first instinct. Maybe it was wrong.

Go back to campus...? No. They wouldn't care--and it would be detrimental.

Get out? The question was how to do it and it was not easily answered.

His sapphire eyes swiveled to the window, a burst of frustration sweeping through his chest. The frustration burned, almost starting the embers of anger. But he was struggling to contain it. "Maybe, we do just stay here for a day or two," he said slowly, lowering his hands to his waist and smoothing the air out in front of him. "When she dares to get close again, we get answers. She doesn't get to choose in this matter, she had her chance to give some sort of answer and she blew it. So now, she gets to give us answers."

There was no other choice. Lucius demanded answers and he was going to get them one way or another. It was a fixed position in his mind and boy was he going to never let it go. Not one bit. Not until he had answers.

That was his goal now. Getting answers.

Feo watched Lucius with growing concern, his sharp, quiet gaze taking in every frantic movement, every restless step across the floor. The pacing, the way his hands tangled in his hair, the bursts of frustration in his voice—it was clear that Lucius was spiraling. Feo could feel the tension radiating from him like static in the air.
-
But the sight of Lucius like this did something to Feo, stirring a protective instinct deep in his chest. He exhaled softly, grounding himself, before stepping forward with purpose. His strides were deliberate but calm, a stark contrast to Lucius’s frantic pacing.
-
When Feo reached him, stepping into his path mid-pace, he gently caught Lucius’s face in his hands, his soft fingers resting lightly against Lucius’s jaw. His movements were steady and sure, a grounding force against the whirlwind of emotions in front of him. Feo tilted Lucius’s head up just enough to meet his gaze.
-
“My Dove,” Feo said quietly, his voice soft but firm, like the ripple of a calm tide. His blue-green eyes bore into Lucius’s sapphire ones, steady and unwavering. There was no fear in his expression, no hint of panic, only a quiet determination to pull Lucius out of his storm.
-
“Hey,” Feo murmured, his thumbs brushing lightly against Lucius’s cheekbones, a silent reassurance. “What’s going on? What do you want to do here?” His tone was soothing, measured, a deliberate attempt to anchor Lucius back to the present. “I can see it, the way this is eating at you. And I get it, I do. This whole thing is messed up. But you need to tell me what’s really on your mind, okay? Why are you mad? What’s got you so worked up?”
-
Feo’s hands remained steady, his fingers firm but gentle as if to say, I’ve got you. He tilted his head slightly, his brow furrowing as he searched Lucius’s face for answers. “You don’t have to figure this out alone,” he continued softly. “If staying feels right, if you want to face her and get answers, then we stay. If leaving feels safer, then we leave. Whatever we do, we’ll do it together.”
-
He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping lower, quieter, as if the words were meant only for Lucius. “But you’ve got to breathe, okay? You’ve got to stay calm. We can’t make a plan if your head’s spinning.”
-
Feo’s gaze softened further as he watched Lucius, his own breathing steady and deliberate, a silent encouragement for Lucius to mirror him. “It’s okay to be angry,” Feo admitted gently. “It’s okay to feel like this. But whatever we do next, we’re going to do it smart. You’re good at that. Stupid plans, which are weirdly smart in their own way.” He offered a tiny smile.
-
He let a small pause settle between them, his hands still cradling Lucius’s face as he waited patiently for a response. Feo knew this wasn’t about forcing a decision—it was about grounding him, about pulling him back from the edge and reminding him that he wasn’t alone.
-
“We’ll figure it out,” Feo said softly, his voice barely more than a whisper as he slowly leaned his head down and pressed his forehead against Lucius's. “But you’ve got to tell me what you think is best. Stay or go, it doesn’t matter to me. Just… talk to me. Is this it? Is there more going on that I should know about? And do you want me to figure this out on my own, so you can take a break?"

The winged demigod paced back toward the beds, trying to piece through the swirl in his head. It felt like a tornado whipping through his thoughts, tearing into each one. His eyes were mostly focused on the floor though it wasn't what he was really seeing.

Lucius nearly ran into Feo, stopping in his tracks to look up at the Norse demigod. His hands were slightly warm, catching his attention far more than he expected. Feo's expression was firm, determined and steady.

What was going on? They were being tracked and Lucius couldn't stand the way it tore Feo apart. He was angry that she was so evasive. But he hadn't felt like this in a while--not since the last school he had been to. Where there was always a pair of eyes on him, no matter what. Scrutinizing and judgmental.

Lucius took in a deep breath and let it out again. His eyes sliding closed as he sank slightly into his hands.

"I don't know what is better," he finally answered quietly, "but I'm angry. I'm really angry that she's tormenting you. I'm frustrated that she didn't give us any answers and I want them. I--I need them."

He struggled to breathe, to stay put. Lucius wanted to pull back, to let his anger boil over. But that wasn't going to be helpful. It wasn't going to be constructive. He had to be at least somewhat careful, somewhat civil and put together. He just needed to be there.

But his heartbeat echoed in his ears, the rush of hot anger shot through him like a spike, the picking of his own breathing and the weight of everything on his shoulders tried to tear through that composure that he was struggling to hold onto. It trembled like a bridge shaking under the weight of the world.

"It feels like... like school all over again," Lucius finally began to speak again. "But it's turned up to a ten. Not only is she watching us but... she's dangerous. I know it. It's the unknown. I ... don't know. I demand answers, I need them. But I don't know if that's the smartest way to go about things. I think that getting out of here first is going to be better."

He shook his head lightly and sighed quietly. "I don't want to leave you to make the decision alone. It's hard, it's not easy--especially if it's like this. But I just don't know what to do. If I should follow my gut and get out or ... or if getting answers now would be better," he sank into Feo's arms, holding onto his shirt.

"I just don't want to lose you," he admitted quietly, voice barely audible.

Feo’s heart twisted at the sight of Lucius, shoulders trembling under the weight of anger and frustration, his fingers clutching tightly to the fabric of Feo’s shirt like it was the only thing keeping him grounded. Lucius had always been the bold one, the sharp-witted one, charging ahead into things Feo wouldn’t dare. But right now, he looked so young, so overwhelmed—and Feo couldn’t stand it.
-
He tightened his arms around Lucius, holding him close, the steady rhythm of his breathing meant to soothe. “Hey, Lulu,” he murmured, voice soft and steady, his words an anchor amidst the storm raging in Lucius’s head. “It’s okay. I’ve got you. You’re safe with me.”
-
He shifted his hands gently, one coming to rest at the back of Lucius’s head, his fingers threading into the golden strands, the other tracing calming circles along his back. “You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. You don’t have to carry this alone. I know you’ve been trying to protect me, to figure everything out and keep us safe—but it’s my turn to look after you.”
-
Feo leaned back slightly, just enough to look down at Lucius’s face. His own expression was steady, calm, but there was warmth in his blue-green eyes, an unwavering determination that didn’t falter even in the face of Lucius’s turmoil. “I don’t care who she is, or what she’s after. She’s not going to touch you. She’s not going to hurt you. And she’s definitely not going to take you away from me.”
-
He tilted his head, his voice softening even further as he added, “I know you’re scared—even if you don’t want to say it out loud. But you don’t have to be, okay? I’m here. You’re not going to lose me. Not now, not ever. You’ve got me, Dove. Always.”
-
He let Lucius rest against him for a moment longer, letting him breathe, letting the storm inside him settle. Feo could feel the tension in his shoulders begin to ebb, just slightly, and he took a quiet breath of his own before shifting.
-
“Come on,” Feo said gently, sliding one arm under Lucius’s knees and the other around his back. He lifted him easily—Lucius didn’t weigh much compared to Feo, and his years of training meant carrying him was effortless. “You’ve done enough, okay? You need to rest for a minute.”
-
Feo didn’t let him wriggle out of his grasp. He carried him over to the bed, the soft rustle of the sheets the only sound as he lowered Lucius carefully onto the mattress. His hands lingered for a moment, making sure Lucius was settled, before he crouched down beside the bed so they were at eye level.
-
“I want you to stay here,” Feo said firmly, his voice still calm but brooking no argument. “It’s not safe out there for you right now. I’m not going to let you put yourself at risk—not for her, not for anyone.” His hand brushed over Lucius’s hair again, a quiet reassurance. “You’ve done enough for today. Let me handle the rest.”
-
Feo’s mind was already whirring with plans, but he didn’t say anything about them. Lucius didn’t need to worry about that right now. All Feo cared about was making sure he stayed safe.
-
He glanced at the window, at the world outside that suddenly felt far too close, then back at Lucius. “We’ll figure everything out,” he promised softly. “But right now, you need to rest. We’ll get through this together, just like always. You trust me, right?”
-
Feo gave him a small, reassuring smile before standing up. He didn’t say what he was planning, but his resolve was firm. Supplies would be a good idea—no, an essential one. Whether they were leaving or staying, he couldn’t risk them running out of food, water, or any other essentials. And if Lucius was going to insist on facing that woman, Feo needed to make sure he was ready.
-
But that was a problem for Feo to solve, not Lucius. For now, he would let his Lulu rest. Feo moved quietly across the room towards the bathroom, his steps careful as he began to prepare for whatever came next.

Lucius shook his head lightly. He wanted to--he felt safe. He knew he wasn't the target but that didn't keep him from the emotions that he felt. The worry that build a whirlpool in his mind, the anger that boiled frustration in his stomach.

"No," Lucius protested quietly and shook his head. "Feo, I don't--no--" the vague effort of trying to wriggle his way out of the hold was perhaps comical at best. "Rest--I don't--need rest. We need to do something," his tone wavered once he was settled on the mattress. Perhaps he was a bit more tired than he had initially expected but that didn't matter... right? He wanted to be there, to stay by Feo. He needed to be doing something, to figure out the solution--or a solution--to this new problem. The hitch and catch in their plans of everything that they were doing. This... this wasn't it!

Lucius gave him a small sapphire eyed glare from the mattress. There wasn't much heat to it but far more... minor annoyance. But Feo was right. At the moment, he didn't know anything about this woman, the risk of who-knew-what happening. There wasn't much he could do to argue against it.

"... it's not safe for you either," he mumbled softly, deciding that would be his argument. "I don't... want to rest," the winged demigod protested once more, his voice lingering in a touch of worry. There was too much to do, too much to think of right now. There were plans that they needed to make, things to do, rest... rest felt like a silly idea.

Lucius watched him stand up but didn't hardly move much. There wasn't much he could really do to argue. But he didn't have to sleep, he didn't have to rest like that. He could still think through potential ideas.

A touch of a stubborn crinkle of his nose crossed his face, his eyes scanning the wall and the curtain. Perhaps the best way to get out of there would be the bus. It would be cheap, easy and quick. They could see who all was on the bus, who got on the bus and--if she got on--then she'd have to be civil. If she wasn't, then there would be a scene and, since they were on the bus longer, the bus driver would kick her off. That would work.

Unless she had mystical items. What then?

Mystical items. The wrap of Apollo--well, the wrap blessed by Apollo but he'd call it Apollo's wrap for the sake of simplicity.

His scars.

What... what if they'd work? What if those worked on the scars...? How could he really test it without... being too obvious?

Also his pocket. Laying on the bow was only a little awkward, it wasn't straight on the bow but it wasn't... it was a little awkward. He could feel it there.

Also he probably should've checked if he had broken skin or not. Oh well. A lot of oh well's.

But he'd think and focus on those... simply because he refused to actually rest.

Feo stood in front of the bathroom mirror, taking in the face before him. It wasn’t as though his reflection was anything new—just another shift of form, another layer of protection. But as he studied himself, a subtle unease crept into his chest. This wasn’t just for him. It was for Lucius, too. He was so caught up in his own thoughts, his own worries, that he couldn’t see how dangerous everything was getting. And he couldn’t see how fragile he was right now, even if he never admitted it. Feo had to be the one to protect him, even if it meant making himself someone else entirely.
-
With a small breath, Feo closed his eyes and concentrated, shifting his features. Their hair lengthened, turning a light brown that fell just past their shoulders. The dark brown eyes lightened into something softer, more approachable. Their face softened as they took on a woman’s appearance—just enough to help them blend in. Their skin darkened slightly to a warm tan, freckles dotting their cheeks and nose. The change felt familiar, like slipping into a comfortable old jacket that hid the things they didn’t want to be seen.
-
They also shifted their clothes, the tank top and khakis offering practicality over anything else. A dress wouldn’t do. Not now, not ever. Feo didn’t need anything constricting them, didn’t need anything making them stand out. The gray tank and khakis were simple, neutral, although they hoped it wouldn't draw attention for a woman being in such a masculine outfit. When they finished, they reached for the coconut-scented spray, dousing themselves lightly in the hopes of masking their natural scent—just one more precaution to keep them off anyone’s radar.
-
Feo stared at their reflection once more. The person staring back was still them—still the one who’d been through more than their fair share of trouble, the one who knew how to fight for survival. They could see the resolve in their eyes. Lucius needed them. And right now, that meant keeping everything hidden.
-
When they stepped out of the bathroom, their gaze immediately fell on Lucius, who lay on the bed. A flicker of concern tugged at Feo’s chest, but they quashed it quickly, focusing on what needed to be done. They couldn’t afford to let Lucius control this situation any longer. Not when things had spiraled this far out of control. Not when they could feel that woman’s presence hovering around them like a shadow.
-
Feo took a breath, their voice steady as they spoke, though it carried an unshakable determination. "No," they said, their tone light but firm. "You are staying here. I don't care what you do while you're here—sleep, contemplate the meaning of life, preen your feathers—whatever. But you're staying here, where I know you are safe."
-
They lifted their tank top slightly, showing the knives tucked securely into their khakis. It was an unspoken promise, a reminder that they were more than capable of defending themselves. But it was also a reassurance. They weren’t planning to leave Lucius in a vulnerable position. Not when there were too many unknowns and too many dangers lurking just beyond the corner.
-
Feo walked slowly toward Lucius, their steps deliberate but not rushed. They needed to make sure he understood, to make him see that they were not going to let him run off and make any rash decisions. They reached his side, their hand moving instinctively to his hair, fingers gently running through it, combing it with a tenderness that belied their usual hardened exterior. They leaned down, their face close enough to feel his breath against their skin.
-
Before they could second-guess themselves, before they could overthink it, Feo pressed their lips to his. The kiss was soft, almost tentative, but it carried with it a warmth that spoke of something deeper, something they hadn’t realized they were holding onto. It was brief—too brief—but it was a gesture that spoke volumes.
-
They pulled back just enough to meet his eyes, their own soft and steady despite the storm of thoughts swirling in their mind. “Stay safe, don’t do anything overly stupid,” Feo said quietly, a small smile tugging at their lips, though it was one tinged with worry. They didn’t want to say goodbye—didn’t want to leave him in this place of uncertainty. But they had to. They needed to do what they had to do.
-
With one last look at Lucius, Feo turned and walked toward the door. Their movements were calm, purposeful, slipping through the door and closing it behind themselves.
-
And then pressing their back to the door and letting out a breath they hadn't known they were holding.

Lucius shook his head, glaring lightly at the wall. There had to be a simpler solution to all of this and he was determined to figure it out. It was a good enough plan, figure out the best solution to this problem. He had gotten out of campus, he had gotten on a plane, he had gotten this far out and, had brought Feo along--and made something out of the demigod. Or at least helped uncover what they really were. Kind, caring, protective... good. All around, good.

Lucius had gotten himself out to Kansas, on a train, he had gotten to Garden City, met the collector and gotten a weapon and the wrap. Why was this somehow different?

Because it felt dangerous. The woman didn't feel like anything he was used to. That wasn't fair. It wasn't fair! They weren't doing anything dangerous, they were traveling the world. If she couldn't handle that, that was her problem not theirs!

It simply just was not fair. That was the grating irritant. Lucius was a demigod of Zephyrus, used to free flowing, changing with the wind and the breeze. The be tracked, followed and essentially hunted felt like a blow to who he was.

He had almost sat up when the voice came from behind him and he let out a long, theatrical sigh as he sank back into the bedding.

"Feo, I'm ... oh--hey--uh..."

The attempt to state that he was not an invalid fell dry on his tongue. For a brief moment, a sharp shoot of absolute panic had shot through his chest with the new figure that was standing there. It was Feo's tone but not the usual face that Lucius was used to.

The knives were still there, which was only partially reassuring. But they had the hydra-venom dagger. Was it a dagger or had it been a knife? Lucius couldn't remember.

But they walked slowly, toward him, with a resolute determination. He still wasn't sure if he... trusted this new face or not. It was... uncanny. This was Feo but ... maybe he'd just have to get used to this.

Lucius shook his head, clearing his thoughts before crinkling his nose again. "Feo, I'm not... invalid," he mumbled, losing the fire he had before. Their gentle fingers through his hair was gentle, soft and caring.

But the kiss all but shattered his thoughts. Whatever had been there was now gone in the rush of warmth and surprise. His hand reached briefly toward theirs, taking it in his for a moment or two.

The young man shook his head, as if to plead for them to stay. To stay nearby, not to go, just be there... but they were already out the door.

As Feo slipped out, a sense of guilt slipped into his chest, questioning and doubting everything he had done. Was it at all useful? Was it right?

It felt thrilling and exciting but was it ... right?

Did Feo really agree with him? Or were they just tolerating it just to see what it was like? The kiss felt... so soft and right but it was short and fleeting, not quite a goodbye but close. It made his chest ache for more, to just hold Feo close and make sure that they were alright. This... silence was suffocating.

But what if something happened to him? Or them? What then?

The thoughts converged with little chance to evade or think of anything else. It had been a long, long while since he had a room just to himself to let the walls crumble.

Feo's heart pounded in their chest as they ran through the streets, the sound of their feet pounding against the pavement almost drowned out by the clinking of the gold coins in their pocket. They’d grabbed them in a hurry, swipimg the bag off of the night stand. People scattered out of the way as they raced through the crowd, their body moving like it had been trained for this kind of urgency. They barely registered the annoyed glares and murmurs as they dashed past strangers, too focused on the task ahead.
-
Their mind raced in sync with their frantic pace, a twinge of guilt at the corners of their thoughts, but it was swiftly suppressed. The feeling of urgency, of needing to take control, far outweighed the usual concerns. Every step, every breath was focused on getting back to Lucius—on ensuring that they were both safe. This was no time for hesitation.
-
They pushed the door open to the first store they came across, the bell above it ringing in a high-pitched jangle. Without pausing, they marched straight down the aisles, grabbing whatever they could, not even glancing at the tags. Dark colors. Layers. Shirts, sweaters, vests, shorts—anything practical, anything that wouldn’t draw attention, anything they could wear, and then... anything for Lucius. Their arms moved quickly, gathering what would fit, what could be shoved into a bag later. Feo didn’t care if it didn’t match, if it wasn’t the latest fashion—it was the survival kit, the essentials for the journey.
-
As soon as they had a decent pile, Feo rushed to the counter, slapping down a handful of gold coins with an almost careless air. The cashier’s eyes widened, and for a moment, Feo thought they might say something, but they didn’t give them the chance. Without waiting for a response, they turned on their heel, leaving the store as quickly as they had entered.
-
The cool air of the street greeted them again, and they kept running, determined. They needed to keep moving, keep making progress. The next stop was another store, and this time, they focused on the essentials: food, water, anything they could shove into their arms or pockets. Emergency supplies—first aid kits, bottles of water. As much as they could carry. It was a blur of activity, but Feo's heart had no time to slow down. They didn’t even pause to look at what they were grabbing, just knowing what they needed and grabbing it all.
-
They spotted a random suitcase left near the back of the store. Without thinking, Feo shoved all the clothes, supplies, and water bottles into it, cramming everything into the case, making sure it was full. Then, with a swift motion, they slapped more gold coins onto the counter, enough to cover everything and more, not even bothering to wait for the cashier’s stunned reaction. "This is real gold!" they heard the woman gasp, but by the time the words left her mouth, Feo was already out the door, suitcase in tow.
-
On the street again, Feo’s eyes flicked around. They could hear the soft bustle of the city around them, but their focus remained narrow. They had one more stop to make. One more piece to the puzzle.
-
A store down the street caught their attention. Guns. Weapons. They slowed for a brief moment before walking into the shop with the same single-minded purpose. As they approached the counter, Feo’s eyes scanned the glass display cases, landing on the firearm they wanted. Without hesitation, they pointed to it, sliding the suitcase strap over their shoulder as they reached into their pocket and pulled out more gold.
-
The shopkeeper’s eyes went wide when he saw the gold in their hand. He blinked, uncertain for a moment, before quickly pulling the gun from the display. “You sure about this?” he asked, his voice tentative. "I need to run a background—"
-
Feo narrowed their eyes at him, a quiet, cool resolve in their expression. They didn’t say anything, but their gaze made it clear: they weren’t about to back down. The man nervously pulled it out, putting it on the counter.
-
“Thanks!” they said brightly, perhaps a little too cheerfully, grabbing the weapon. The man gave them a confused, wide-eyed look as they casually walked out of the store.
-
They had what they needed now. The last stop was back at the hotel. They walked with purpose, the full weight of the suitcase dragging at their arm, but it was nothing. It could be worse. It could always be worse.
-
When they finally reached the hotel room, Feo’s disguise melted away like mist. The clothes, the hair—everything was gone in an instant. He didn’t waste time. With a quick motion, he kicked the suitcase onto the floor, shifting as he walked over to the door. Feo grew a feather, plucking the single, pristine black object from his neck before pressing it into the lock of the door, jamming it securely.
-
"Done," he panted, a quiet edge to their voice, and gestured to the suitcase with the gun. “Essentials.”
-
He leaned against the door for a moment, eyes scanning the room for any other immediate needs, but he was already satisfied with the progress. Feo looked over at Lucius, watching him.
-
"Hey," he greeted with a soft smile.

The silence was driving him nuts. He had to do something. Was it resting? Absolutely not. He was going to lose his mind if he laid there for much longer. He just couldn't stay there anymore.

Once he was certain that Feo was gone, Lucius sat up and pulled the bow from his vest. That was placed carefully on the bed beside him as he pulled the wrap from his pocket. It was worth a short try if nothing else. He shed the vest, tossing it onto the bed as well, prying the buttons of his shirt open--without popping one off. That was not a thing he needed to have happen. He dropped the shirt beside him and held the warm wrap in his hands.

Mostly along his ribs, his back and shoulders--upper arms as well--were the identical scars. Each one a mark of where something had to be removed from his bones. Bones were supposed to grow inside. Not outside. Or on top of other bones or make little bone spheres on top of bones. That was bad. But he ... he had plenty of scars to show that somehow, he had figured out exactly how to grow bones the wrong way. Well, maybe he didn't do it but his body sure did.

Carefully, Lucius took the wrap in one hand and lifted it to his shoulder. His fingers felt cold to the touch but the wrap was warm. He selected a small bit of scars and slowly wrapped the linen around his arm. Slowly--as if worried it would somehow break or tear. He knew the collector had said to wait at least a day. But these weren't actual... wound-wounds, they were just scars. So maybe it wouldn't take as long...?

Right?

Hopefully? Something he could heal and hide? Or maybe it would heal his bones instead--that would be super nice. But he didn't really have much hope.

Also the face of the woman. Not the angry one ... but ... his? Was it his woman? Was that the thought that was in his head?

That felt vaguely wrong somehow. He figured it was because Feo didn't look like Feo, rather they looked rather different. It caught him off guard.

Perhaps finally, Lucius realized how... how innately stupid he looked at that current moment. Bow, vest and shirt strewn over the bed, sitting there with a linen wrap around his arm hoping it would heal something... but staring at the wall in the meantime. Also the watch he was still wearing.

Lucius didn't take the wrap off, mostly because he was curious. But replaced shirt, vest but not the bow, he held that in his hands as he laid back on the bed with a small sigh.

The door opened and Lucius glanced toward it, forcing himself not to react or startle. Woman--Feo. That was Feo.

In the blink of an eye, the disguise was gone. Lucius paused for a moment before blinking. Was that a gun?

"... hey," Lucius said slowly, finally sitting up. Immediately, he turned attention to Feo, mostly to get it off of himself. "... what's... what all is included in essentials. Also, you--you think I'm insufferable? What was that kiss and run?! That wasn't exactly a fair first-kiss sort of thing!"
