Zadolt | Male | Australian/German Shepherd mix | Foxtrot | 28 | Mentions: Tysta, Kampe, Hoffen

“You do have a name. You are Kampe, former dog number 94 but now called Cull 24.” He opened his eyes, and looked at her expressionless when she tried to get him to reveal any emotion. And then he felt a slight pang of hurt, when she said she wouldn’t remember his face; yet he didn’t show it, and tightly controlled his emotions.

“Have you really forgot your past life, Kampe? Who you were before being a Cull? I know Beta remembers. I remember.” He looked at Hoffen out of the corner of his eye; he was carrying Tysta off, to be buried near the tunnel entrance. He felt sadness, and regret; Tysta’s death could have been prevented, had he been more cautious. But he could not think about what could have happened, for every moment he kept talking was another moment he would live.

“I know you because you used to be a dog. A living, breathing dog; not the metal you are now. You knew me as Zadolt, not ‘twenty-eight’ as you call me now. I knew you as my closest friend. And now you don’t remember me, as I didn’t remember you.” He spoke calmly; his voice was not rushed, nor was it slow. If one would have heard it, without seeing him, they would never have thought he was inches from being killed.

Kämpe | Female | Cheif Cull (German Shepherd Cross) | 24 | M: Hoffen, Pfiel, Alta, Rache, Aadya, Hoffen, Kilo dogs

Kämpe snapped her head upwards, eyes catching Hoffen. He hadn't asked for permission, simply left. She would reprimand him. Later. She couldn't afford disobedience, not now. They had just located a rebel force, one that Hoffen presumably had some extent of knowledge of, as he had known the cull.

Twenty-eight continued speaking, voice even. Kämpe didn't twitch, didn't move a single muscle. Her expression remained completely composed, demenor nothing more than taciturn and apathetic. She cared little for what this dog said. Either he was lying - which her programming couldn't pick up - or he was telling a strange, potentially informative truth. He lived, only because Kämpe knew he was still useful. He knew something, something she didn't.

My closest friend.

Her mind flickered. It occured to her that a wire of her transmitter had been slashed in battle, by the golden dogs fangs.

My closest friend.

Her mind flickered. Something bubbled in her chest, the same feeling that had ensued as the enemy cull had mentioned Paran.

Paran.

No.

Zadolt. Zadolt, my closest friend.

She began to twitch as her programming malfunctioned, as the memories fought, clawed their way to the surface. Pain sparked behind her eyes. Machine against flesh - machine had always won. But not now, not a few minutes ago. A flash of crackling, sizzling pain in her mind. Her temples pulsed. She wanted to crumple to the ground and never rise again.

Then she noticed something - a lack of Beta's oppressive, constant presence. Her face flashed - flashed with a stunned sort of shock. Memories. Memories flooded her mind. She leaned down, blood dripping from the wound near the base of her skull.

"Brother?" She breathed, barely even a whisper.

Kämpe leapt off him with a hiss. Blood. Blood on her claws. Blood on him.

Monster. I'm a monster. My brother - what - this isn't -

her programming screamed for control.

Pain. More pain in her skull. Her body twitched, finding a foothold, and thrusting her body forward - lunging for Zadolt. Her mind recovered, jerking her back, only inches away from her half-brother. A snarl was set on her features, fury at herself, at what she had become. She was going to kill him. She could see how easily she could tear his neck from his throat, how she would watch him bleed, for betraying Beta.

No!

Every ounce of strength Kämpe had in her soul fought.

"Run!" she snarled, eyes blazing. "I'm going to kill you. Run."

The cull tore away from him, pressing herself in the corner of two walls, claws clutching the ground. More pain in her mind. A spasm ran through her metal and flesh body. Her eyes met his. A fierce, resolutely determined conviction blazed in her eyes. She wouldn't kill him, despite her programming. She was fighting, but she couldn't hold off Beta for long.

Zadolt | Male | Australian/German Shepherd mix | Foxtrot | 28 | Mentions: Arrow, Kampe, Ginger

He half smiled at her when she called him brother. Now they both knew what Beta wanted to hide. And then she lunged for him, and he thought his life was over. She stopped before she could kill him; but it was extremely close. He could see her expression of fury, but knew that it was directed inwards, toward herself.

When she ran away towards one of the corners, he followed after her, only stopping when she told him to run. He could see the determination not to kill him in her eyes, yet knew it would not hold for long. “Kampe,” He said, ignoring her telling him to run,” I need you to tell Beta something.” He chose his next words with care; his face was set with neutrality. “Tell them that they can try to break me. They can try to kill me. But I will fight to the end.” His voice was hard; yet his tone softened at his next words. “You are my sister, Kampe, and I will never fight against you. I will not forget.” Then he ran out of the alley, casting one regretful glance back at her.

And then he was racing across the streets, ignoring everything but the scent of Ginger and Arrow. He didn’t notice the startled humans, or the way his paws ached for rest. He only noticed the scent he was tracking. He could not go back to Beta. If he did, he would never see another day. So he chose to follow Kilo with blind faith.

Kämpe | Female | Cheif Cull (German Shepherd Cross) | 24 | M: Hoffen, Zadolt, Aadya, Kilo dogs

Kämpe watched as her brother left, his final words still clear in her mind.

I've just commited treason. Against Beta. I let him go free.

Her mind started flicking through solutions. How she might answer Beta, when they inquired. She couldn't lie. Not only was it physically impossible - her programming forbid such actions against Beta - but also foolish. They could pluck apart a lie as easily as breathing, and it would certainly end in her removal. No - she had to act as though it was all part of the plan. Yes, logically, it would make more sense to free him. Of course, Aadya would catch them, and Zadolt would only lead her to the rebel base.

Part of the plan.

Kämpe lived in fear. In fear of Beta. Nobody knew - at least she assumed. Cull's weren't supposed to feel fear. But Kämpe had spent her years watching, observing. A Cull that still had his or her mind was more mentally capable - however, they were likely to rebel if they wished, as it was possible for mind to prevail over programming. So Beta instilled a single emotion - fear. To stamp down all hope, all acts of defiance. Beta was afraid, too. They feared an uprising - from the people. From the dogs.

From the culls that still had their heads screwed on their shoulders.

It was fear that kept these culls, including Kämpe, silent. The metal - minded culls were machines - no true fear in the least.

Fear drove anger, fear drove pain. Kämpe knew - for she was afraid. Afraid of Beta. Afraid of displaying her fear. Afraid of being removed. Beta watched her constantly, calculating, waiting for a mistake. Chief Culls always had a real brain - but none held the position long before making a single mistake, before messing up. Kämpe had held the role longer than most, because she had learned to think ahead.

But she was convinced she wasn't making it out of this one, despite her mind attempting to form a plan.

She twitched, programming launching into another seige of her brain. She couldn't handle this. The cull slumped to the floor, the metal of her body having a temporary breakdown. The blood leaked onto her muzzle.

I cannot bleed. Her mind muttered, unable to admit weakness, before slipping into temporary darkness while her system rebooted itself.

Ginger | Female | Broken Cull | Kilo | 46 | Mentions: Tysta, Arrow, Zadolt

Ginger ignored Arrows words; though a small part of her did ask why she hadn't done more? Why hadn't she tried harder? If she hadn't trusted Hoffen she'd have been fast enough to jump in front of him, she'd have stopped the large male, maybe risking her own life, but saving Tysta in the process. And getting rid of Beta's chief cull, who most likely had the transmitter that they had needed to escape as well.
But then her mind told her she wouldn't have been able to do anything, Hoffen was fast and strong, even if she jumped in front of him, it would have only made Tysta's life a little longer, Kämpe would have figured out how to over power him somehow, she was one of the most powerful culls out there, and his fate would have been far worse.

Once she moved Kilo she would go back to Ty, she'd find a way to keep Arrow with the others, the thought of the little terrier getting caught by a patrol, after Ty's death, it made her heart wretch even more... or at least what was left of her heart.

Ginger could have run forever, she could have given up on Kilo and just run, find a place to hide from beta, lay down, and let her metal body rust, let her mind rest eternally. She was so old now...
But she couldn't leave Arrow all alone, she couldn't leave Kilo, she couldn't let Beta win.

Ginger finally slowed down, she'd probably run a quarter of the city, speeding past frightened humans who screamed at the sight of her gleaming metallic body.
She put Arrow down, "Arrow, I know how much it hurts, I know you want to run back to Ty" her voice caught, "but there's nothing we can do for him. Beta will be patrolling the area; there's no way we can get his body back, but what we can do is save the other Kilo dogs from the same fate. I need you to listen, I need you to trust me" she always kept her voice powerful and commanding, but now, now it was pleading, weak, hurt.

She looked up when she caught the scent of a dog and her shoulders stiffened. Beta had followed them.
Then she recognized the smell. Zadolt.
"I know you're there Zadolt, be warned that if you do anything to harm Arrow or myself I will kill you. If you still have any loyalties towards Beta, I will kill you."

Zadolt | Male | Australian/German Shepherd mix | Foxtrot | 28 | Mentions: Tysta, Arrow, Kampe, Hoffen, Ginger

“No, I have not come here for Beta. I come of my own free will, of my own purpose.” He said, stepping where they could see him. His stance was defensive, but not threatening, with his tail and head lowered. He heard the drip of his blood hitting the ground and wondered idly, for a moment, if it was fatal. Given that he was still alive, that seemed unlikely.

What a pity; he wouldn’t have minded death.

“And I saw Hoffen-” The name was layered with hate “-burying Tysta. He had the decency to give him a burial, at least.” His tone was sarcastic and bitter, speaking more about his hate of Beta than he intended for them to know. He sat down away from them, eyeing Arrow warily; he wouldn’t put it past her to attack him for coming from Beta. She was Tysta’s friend, and his loss was obviously hitting her hard. Her anger might override the memory that he was an ally, not Beta, and he really didn’t feel up to getting attacked twice in a row. His injuries were far from healed; the place where Kampe had attacked him still was sore, and he could still see a part of the transmitter thing poking out from one of the claw marks.

“Kampe is currently rebooting in a corner of the alley, I think. I don’t know if she’s awake or not. I figured out a way to… force Beta out of her head temporarily, I guess you could say.” He didn’t explain further; he would explain if asked, but if they didn’t want to know, he wouldn’t tell. Of course, it was a low chance that they wouldn’t ask him to explain; and he found he wasn’t bothered by the chance that they might ask. It would be better to be killed by Arrow or Ginger than his own sister.

Pfeil | Male | Doberman half blood | Bravo | 25 | Mentions: Rache, Alta, Foxtrot, Bravo

Pfeil had never frozen when attacked, he either let his instincts or mind take control, as fear would have gotten him killed in Beta.
Even when he was training with a cull, powerful, dangerous and emotionless, he had never frozen, never been locked in fear as he was attacked. But something about the way Sixty-Three, the way her expression changed, how her deadly fangs gleamed in the light. At that moment he knew he was going to die, and he couldn't move.

Right before Sixty-Three reached him, she stopped, and distantly he heard Beta's speakers.

He has proven his worth

Escort to the lab.

By force if you must

He had passed the test. During the battle he had realized this, either die or be turned into a monster. Something had made him keep fighting, something had made him want to survive and become what he hated. Maybe it was his fear of death, survival taking over, or something else entirely.

Pfeil only half listened when Orden walked up, talking without being spoken to, the punishment that Beta gave to those who spoke out of turn could be death, removal of a limb, removal of a friend, or the rare chance of nothing; but the collie mix was still risking the flesh that she had left to keep his mind intact.
He didn't know if he wanted to remember. He didn't know if he wanted his own mind anymore. After loosing Maze, after becomming a cull, he didn't know if he wanted to keep it.

"I'll stay here, with Commander Twenty-four and Cull Thirty-four gone, someone needs to keep these dogs in line" he heard Sixty-One say, he hadn't noticed the two culls leave... along with Zadolt and the tiny dog.

Alta | Female | German Shepherd | Charlie | 63 | M: Pfiel, Rache

Alta dipped her head to her sister.

Stay safe, her dark gaze seemed to convey. Alta doubted there was anything Rache couldn't handle - but times were certainly... uncertain.

Alta inclined her head to the doberman. "Twenty-five. Follow me."

His fate was indeed a viable option for Alta and Rache's future. The sisters were still 'in training', but the Charlie warrior knew it wouldn't be much longer. Should she cherish the moments when her mind was still her own? Or would it become too painful to remember, then have her life stolen away? Alta didn't live for much. Her Mother was dead at an early age, and she had never known her father. All her littermates were selected and disperesed between regiments, if they were deemed fit for training. She hadn't seen them since she was only a few days old, really. They were only a slight warmth in the cold, twisted track of her memory.

Alta only lived because a will to survive was buried deep within the depths of her soul. Alta survived because her sister lived on. She could not leave her.

But what did this doberman have to live for? Perhaps the transition would be easier for him.

The cold concrete beneath Alta's paws shifted into cool tile. The lab. Alta had always hated this place - limping dogs, mutilated dogs, screaming dogs, snarling dogs. The eerie presence of humans as well. Alta raised her head, fading out everything in her periphreral vision. A human stood in front of her, white coat swinging about (his? her?) ankles, mask concealing facial features.

The human muttered to itself, before gesturing for Alta to leave.

The dog turned away immediately.

She didn't look back.

(Not sure how you want to play this out - time skip?)

Orden | Female | Half Blood, Border Collie Cross | Beta (Bravo) | 22 | M: Rache, Alta, Pfiel, Anfall, Others indirectly

Orden watched as the pair left. Another dog, a good dog, lost. Lost, destined to become a machine. It really did make one think - what was Hoffen like before he was a cull? Kämpe? It was a strange, chilling concept, to acknowledge that these metal creatures might once have been dogs. How they were stripped away from their identity, had their personality, their heart, their soul murdered, how they were shoved into a different body, forced to obey without question. How their loved ones were torn from their minds.

It was horrifying, when one thought about it. A tale that would be told to a pup to scare it. If Orden didn't have any sort of composure, she would have shivered. But she was a dog born to Bravo - outward emotion was difficult to discern.

Anfall's voice rose.

"What now, commander?" She said, voice cold. She was adressing the remaining Charlie dog in her usual, spiteful manner.

Fool. She's going to get herself killed. Not that she cares. Perhaps death is preffered, in her mind.

Anfall was an interesting dog - she hated the world, and it hated her right back.

Sabre / Female / Wolfdog (wolf-GSD-Alaskan malamute) / Foxtrot / I.D: 65 / M: Anfall, Pfiel

Sabre tried to stop Anfall before she spoke, but did not succeed. Instead, she had to quickly compose herself, masking her horror behind an expressionless face. Poor Pfiel. A cull. A fate worse than death itself from what she could gather. And then Anfall spoke... without being spoken to. Did she want to die, like Maze? She resisted shaking her black fur, but instead sat there, staring straight ahead.
