actually back again i have been Struck by Insipiration
I'm going to name some locations around Neralos so we have a rough mental map. feel free to add on your own headcannons or location ideas !! these are all rough and half-formed visions
Neralos Reef Locations
Coral Palace - I had no better name ideas so for the time being, the castle is the Coral Palace. Like everything in a mer civilization, the Palace is... well, grown from coral. It's rare coral though, and is adorned with seashells and starfish, the winding halls illuminated by bioluminescent plants and smaller sea creatures. I envision the throne room being very open, obviously, and incredibly tall, perhaps using beams from old shipwrecks to help support the coral. The Coral Palace is in the center of Neralos and is at an elevated point to overlook the massive reef it controls.
Market - Maybe there are a few markets since the reef is so large, but the main one is called.. umm.. Merulina Plaza. It's near the Palace and is nearly always in a state of chaos with all the bustling shopping and socializing going on. Merulina is where you go to buy everything and hire merfolk for any odd job you need. Of course the prices are a bit high since it's the largest and most popular market / social center, but it still attracts the largest schools and has the highest quality products. It's in the more Upper Class region of the reef, but mers from all classes come here. Some to shop and others to beg.
Districts - I've briefly mentioned that the Upper Class live more towards the center, Middle are more dispersed (but usually closer to the edge), and Lower are on the outskirts. I don't really know what to name the districts yet, if they will get any name at all, but i have a rough idea of what they all look like. Upper Class has the most luxurious coral caves that are the most well-made and usually largest, as well as utilizing rarer coral in their construction. Middle has your typical coral and decently sized coral homes made of common and easy to grow coral. They may even have their version of apartment buildings, with multiple mer claiming their own caverns in a single coral house. Lower has coral that is usually dead or dying, if they even get a coral home at all. A lot of them wind up in caves. there is somewhat of a poverty issue in Neralos even if the kingdom is supposedly known for being prosperous.
Temple - i am unsure of who they worship, but there's Got to be at least one religion since it's a sprawling city. Maybe Poseidon since he's the easy route. the temple is near Merulina Plaza since that's where the largest schools tend to gather

Outer Sea - anything beyond the reef edge. Usually regarded as dangerous due to human interferance and sharks, maybe even squids can be considered a threat. they do have relationships with other mer kingdoms, of course, but usually your average mer citizen has never travelled too far outside the reef just because there's no reason to and it's more trouble than it's worth.
