How do they like to sleep?
Charlie and Halcyon like to sleep together. She'll curl into his stomach, and he throws a wing over her but leaves her head out so she can listen to the other dragons. Sometimes, if Halcyon is having a bad night, he'll tuck her in between his arms too so she's right next to her heart. He knows it calms her, and having Charlie so close to his life force reassures him that she's there.
What type of dreams do they both have?
Halcyon's dreams vary by night. On a good night, he'll dream of Charlie saving him, or of the dragons on the ship. Sometimes, if he's lucky, he'll dream of food that's stupid enough to stop right in front of him for an easy kill.
On the bad nights, his dreams are filled with attacks, violence hitting the ship, losing Charlie - either by her disappearing or dying. His most often reoccurring nightmare is a giant black dragon, silent as the empty space around them, creeping up on the ship. It will sneak into the gardens, where Charlie will be tending to her herbs. Halcyon always knows it's there but no matter how hard he pushes in his dream, he enters the garden to find Charlie limp within the beast's maw.
Charlie, on the other hand, doesn't usually dream. If she does, it's of some kind of salve or mixture that she's never heard of before. Though she's not a prophet by any means, she knows that when she wakes, she needs to make the concoction for something - in fact, she's never failed to need the exact mix within a week of her dream.
Are they a night owl or early bird?
Both. Charlie and Halcyon sleep for the necessary amount of hours - in their case, six is usually enough. Sometimes they'll sleep in, but they rarely go to bed in the early evening hours, and typically wake up before whatever star they're orbiting rises.
How easily do they fall asleep?
When together, it's easy to fall asleep. Charlie will listen to the hum of the dragons, the steady beat of Halcyon's heart, and fall asleep within minutes. Halcyon will watch her until her breathing evens, and then he too falls asleep quickly.
When they're apart, neither sleeps well. It will take hours of staring at the ceiling to fall asleep, and even then, the sleep is fitful at best.
Are they comfortable sleeping around other people?
Halcyon wouldn't mind. He's got scales and claws, and no human is going to be able to sneak up on him, even in the deepest sleep. He doesn't prefer it, of course - prefers to be with the dragons and Charlie only, but he wouldn't be opposed to the idea if it was necessary.
Charlie isn't comfortable enough with most of the crew to sleep in the same room as them. If Vasilios or Quill were to bunk with her, she wouldn't mind, but anybody else would have her on guard the whole night. If Halcyon were with them, she would be able to handle it - his protective envelopment of her before sleep prevents anybody from sneaking up on them.
Do they have a night time routine?
Charlie's night time routine hasn't changed in the recent months. Once she developed a system on the ship, she began following the same steps every night.
She goes to the dragon's room, bringing various herbs and tinctures under the guise of healing any scrapes. Some night, a dragon has a sickness, or a cut, and she's able to work on them for a few hours. Most nights, though, she simply sits at a dragon's side, doing mindless tasks around them while she pets them until it's time for sleep. After this, she'll put her untouched herbs away, say goodnight to the dragons, and find Halcyon to talk about her day.
The two will talk, her out loud and him in her mind in brief, chuffed sentences, before they finally reach a point where they can doze off together.
How well do they function when they're tired?
Depending on the situation, both are either terrible at functioning or act like they've been well rested for weeks. If they simply don't sleep well the night before, and have to do their daily tasks, both Halcyon and Charlie will drag their feet as they go.
If there's an emergency - an unplanned raid, an injury, an attack - the two are completely fine, fueled by adrenaline and rage. They could both go on for hours, days without sleep and function as normally as they would in a planned situation.
