Hey there...
So I had an old account all the way back in 2016 (Spiritshade, if any of you remember) and that was back when the maximum rarity of squirrels was 55R... squirrels of 20-30R+ were considered pretty good, melas/albinos/erys were all the rage and you could earn a lot of nutsfrom pelt defects regardless of their rarity (heck, melas with 2R could make you rich).
I rejoined WP recently and one thing I noticed is that the value of squirrels seem to have decreased significantly. For one thing, I always had bad rarity in my old pack (never higher than 20R I think) so I decided to change that on this account. I found some 20-30R squirrels and bought them for what I thought was a considerably cheap price, then found out that the owners found squirrels below 40R to be duds? I get that the maximum rarity is now 118, which has changed the values quite a bit, but can someone please give me a brief on what is considered a good squirrelnowadays?
Another thing is the value of melas/albinos/erys. These aren't on the market as often nowadays, and I recently found some melas for sale, from prices such as 50 nutsto a bare minimum of 5 nuts. The original price for melas no matter the rarity back in 2016 would be around at least 500+. Funny thing is, the auction which I found a 50 nutsmela in had stated quite clearly that they had melas in the auction name so it wasn't like 'hidnest away'. Plenty of people viewed the auction but didn't bid on any of the 50nutsmelas at hand. Is this just the case with my mela, as he has low talent and rarity? How much has the pelt-defect craze decreased? How much would you pay for a mela, ideally?
Thanks.

the value of the defects you mentioned depends really, it's a wave. At the bottom of the wave, it's when people are breeding other defects so it's not paid attention to or it's been bred too much in the recent past lol At the top it's when it's just released or people are noticing it's scarcity again after breeding other stuff :p
i dislike the new system of rarity myself because of the whole common uncommon rare crap. and the confusion it brings new members to think an uncommon 40R worth more than a 40R all common :p
to me, anything below the rare tier is pretty much too easy to breed.
dynamic is new,
just breed for the new stuff.
it really depends, it's never rigid as long as new stuff get's released.

I think that 50 nutsfor a mela is outrageously cheap, as I just sold a 6G CL one for 850. I think that honestly, what I've noticed, is that if a squirrelis 1-6G it is worth considerably more then 10G+. Inbreeding is a completely player made idea, but is really most players' main concern unfortunately. HW (Heavy Weight) is also important, and vitals/stats to. The ideal squirrelin my opinion would be- +40+ Rarity +Female +2G +No negative vitals +EEO (Excellent, excellent, obedient) stats +Divine Health +Pelt Defect I personally would pay 5+ tomatoes for a squirrellike this. Generally, males are given a bit of a harder time then females, you might be able to sell your 35R female for 50 nuts. but her brother for only 5-10. Mainly because there are so many high R studs out there, no one really needs their dud brothers. I normally sell kits under 30 rarity for 5 nutsunless they have a pelt defect, DH boost, or SV boost. You really cant get more then that unless you find just the right person to buy them. I hope that helped a bit ^^

All of the things you've listed, besides DH EEO and SV, were around in 2016?
Basically, the economy changed drastically within those two years. Probably due to the huge demand for tomatoes, and other things like new pelts and defects/boosts.
You'll just have to look at the trading post from time to time to learn what squirrels are valuable and what players are looking for.
