I find it's super hard to find human bases/lines. Usually if I'm looking to make a character (and I don't want to do it myself,) picrew is the best option.

Agreeing that for character designs, picrew can be easier! :0 it's hard to find f2u bases that have clothing/hair/etcetc, but those come on like all picrews! :0

Might be good for the crew to have an actual ship as I don't know if they have one- I'm sure they must do as pirates LMAO.
Boatswain would definitely be good for keeping everything in order on a ship or even just at their main base, to be honest.
