How to Properly Credit/Use Artwork on WolfPlay
Welcome to WolfPlay artists! As with any game we encourage you to be creative and customize our wolves and packs. Whether you are planning to give your wolves their own identities or sell your images for game money, we encourage you to read the following about Copyright and Credit.
These are several different mediums that can be used digitally which include, but are not limited to:
- Photos
- Photo Manipulations
- Digital Drawings/Sketches
- Vector Images
When using artwork if it is NOT entirely yours you are required to give credit to each piece that you used. If you use a photo as the basis of your image, please give credit to the photographer. If you download a Photoshop brush, please give credit to the brush creator, and so on and so forth. It is very important that the owner of the image give you permission to use the image. If it is not a stock image or you don't have written permission to use the image, then the image should not be used on this website.
If the photo is all yours, you can just put (c) and your pack name and/or ID as the credit.
There are many sites on which you can find references or add-on tools for your rendering applications, popular sites include, Flickr.com and Deviantart.com. Both of these sites give artwork owners the opportunity to "market" their pieces under the rules of Creative Commons. (Please click here for more information on Creative Commons: http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/).
Once you find a piece of artwork you would like to use in your piece, PLEASE make sure to check that you can under the different licenses of the Creative Commons.
**Keep in mind that while images from Deviantart and Flickr are allowed, linking from either site is not allowed. Remember to upload your avatars to an image-hosting site, a which of list is provided below
Let's say you want to use this photo of mine as a reference for you drawing: http://cgray0983.deviantart.com/art/Caballo1-130596004
You will have to say on your piece - "Reference photo: http://cgray0983.deviantart.com/art/Caballo1-130596004" The URL must be clearly visible and not too small to read.
If you are using an image from a website that has stock images for use credit as the following "(c) website url" Stock images MUST be for stock use only and not copyrighted in any way, shape, or form.
Basic images from websites are not allowed unless it is your own website and you own that photo - you have to have taken that photo.
DEVIANTART CREDITING
When crediting photos from DeviantArt, we have discussed this and decided the best way to credit this is not a direct link to the photo used but instead the artists account. For example, artistname.deviantart.c o m.
Make sure that it is visible AND large enough so anyone looking at the image can easily see that proper credit is given to the artist of whose work you have used to get to your final product. Game moderators will be checking that images used fall under the correct license for Creative Commons or in artist's notes - that is why it is important to give credit. If we find that your image tagged torn your wolf does not fall under the above stated guidelines, we will remove the image in question.
Please do not hesitate to ask a moderator if you are unsure about whether the artwork you are using is okay to post to account- all of us are here to help.
NON-COMMERCIAL USAGE:
If you are using a stock image that says for ""noncommercial use only"", it most likely means the original owner wants you to not make a profit off of them, be it virtual (game) currency or real life currency. If you want to make a mushroom or apple profit off of an image that is labeled for noncommercial usage, check to make sure the person is okay with it first. Every stock image's host has different preferences, so make sure that you are aware of what they allow.
COMMERCIAL USAGE:
Likewise, if the image is labeled for commercial use, you may use it for profit, given you are not selling the original image unaltered. Credit the stocks used appropriately using the guidelines above.
TV/MOVIE/GAMES:
Please be aware that characters from TV, Movies, and Games are copyrighted as is the content. As such no content from TV, Movies, or Games is allowed. This includes youtube videos and other streaming media. This means no fandom art.
FORBIDDEN CONTENT:
Humans are also not allowed as people have legal rights to how their image is used. Anthros are allowed, and stock photos of humans that dont show their face or identifying features. Human art is also allowed if it is in cartoon form and not referenced from a photo or other media.
USE OF SIGNATURES:
While player signatures are certainly fun to identify yourself with, it's a headache with the mods to remember who uses what brand. If you plan to use a signature, please supplement these with your pack ID.
Thank You,
The WolfPlay Mod Team
Commonly Used Image Hosts:
─ ImgSafe
─ ImageBam
Please note that Imgur, Photobucket, ImgBB (ibb), Toyhou.se and Deviantart are NOT acceptable sites to upload images from.
When asking for clarifications on why your avatar is reset...
Please include a link to the image so we can tell you what it was possibly reset for. We don't remember all the avatars we go through.
Still confused?
Please review this more in-depth guide below on how art requirements work: https://wolfplaygame.com/forums.php?f=4&t=100
Just to clarify: Credits should be on the image or in your bio/notes.
