Well, the fires right now aren't so bad. They were awful last year because we were kinda in a drought, El Niño etc (that's the dry season one, right?)

I checked the RFS site today and it said there was only about 11 incidents at that moment in NSW, and none of them were serious. Fire season I don't think starts until late Nov/early Dec

I mean, it was probably a tad scary. Cause I was doing my exam like a good 'lil childer, looked up and BOOM the sky was yellow

like, really fricking yellow

I went to the special-ed teacher, "That isn't normal, what the hell?" and she told me not to worry

I mean, I thought it was kinda cool
I finished my exam first, then went down to wait for my next class. The sky was steadily becoming more orange, so yeah

also ash was flying everywhere

and it was really hot

and smoky

during that period of time for a few weeks, we weren't allowed outside unless necessary, so everyone was in the library or classrooms aha
but basically one of the French teachers took pity on me all by myself underneath the orange sky and forced me to go into her classroom, which was fine because her classroom had airconditioning

we had a chat about the exam I just had (which was French, actually) and then the rest of my year group arrived in one massive clump

so then, naturally, I went outside to join them

and then sky was becoming a deeper orange (technically they never were fully red but like a blood orange colour?)

we had a sub, and then the phone calls started because parents wanted to pick up their childeren

yes that typo was on purpose

I am pronouncing it as chill-der-an

anyway- so then everyone moved to the stadium thingy and we all got picked up

and I'm trying to make a flashcard talking about 'challenging abuse of power' or something and I'm so confused

oh, and then the rest of the exams were cancelled the next week

so I only did three exams last year

I do my homework on Knewton. And I try not to look at that spelling because "Newton" is NOT spelled with a K! But anyway, the shirt says "KNERD" across the front and has Knewton's logo underneath that.... They misspelled "nerd" on purpose! Pet peeves galore. >.<

Although we do have forest fires in my state, is nothing like that. The closest thing to the Australian fires are the Cali wildfires, which also turn the sky red - also, there was a fire tornado out there.

I heard a lot of animals are being killed and displaced by the fires (not to mention people, but more so wildlife). I heard koalas are actually in danger of dying out? (but I got that from a less reliable source, so - )

I mean, if you have to be picked up from school/testing, that's a pretty good way. Nice and dramatic, with a flare of s p i c e and red and f i r e. My state is somewhat mountainin-y and very foresty, but we still don't have too insane fires. We just get a heck of a lot of hurricanes and flash floods. (And then the next day there's a drought, and then the next day it's in the negatives and there's a blizzard).

I dunno. We've gotten out of school for snow and wind (yes, actually - the wind was so insane that day they thought the school buses would tip and cars would go flying along with childeren (I love that word - ) so we didn't have to go. Hurricanes too, we get out for those. But fires just seem a million more times dangerous >.<

The coolest reason we got out of school for was when a building exploded and nearly crushed us so they all sent us home because they thought we had trauma and wanted to make sure that nothing else was on the verge of explosion. A news helicopter visitied us. It was pretty cool but I don't think my ears ever recovered.

we had a mini cyclone on the edge of town earlier this year when I was at my cousins'

like, we walked down the street to feed Coco, and we were joking about how the thunder was just giants rolling in the bins and dropping them

and then just as we got back to his house it started fricking pelting with rain and hailing and trying to tear everything apart

but we were fine
