So- the queen herself is infuriated with Timothy, but is somehow very wise and selfless despite everything the Demon Lord and his soldiers did to her. The father of her son is one of the soldiers, so that should tell you enough what happened there. But anywho, her anger isn't directly at Evelyn. She understands that Evelyn was pushed into a world where everyone blames her for the loss of Kieero's kingdom, and doesn't believe she should be the one punished, but the Demon Lord should be blamed. The Demon Lord is a wrath demon who came into power very quickly, due to his ruthlessness and strategic battle mind, which was well respected by the wrath kingdom. Unfortunately, he became incredibly power hungry, and sought to have each and every Sinful Kingdom (the seven deadly sins as kingdoms, basically) along with Kieero's kingdom, which wasn't a sin per say, but was the embodiment of death. A mix of a shadow demon and lust demon, if you will. The Demon Lord (that's what he calls himself and what he expects to be called) wants every kingdom to be under his thumb, and if they don't willingly align themselves to him? Well, they get eradicated. Kieero's kingdom was the only one reduced to near extinction. The others who had resisted were very quickly shown what would happen if they kept resisting. So, Hell is in shambles right now. Her son, on the other hand, does blame Evelyn. Like, hardcore hates her and despises her existence. The Demon Lord had reduced Kieero and him to hiding among commoners and the poor to remain a secret, so while he is a Prince, to show that publicly would mean homicide.

Oh yikes, the lab. So Evelyn's origin story is not a great one, and I won't get too graphic, bUT. After Garcia gave baby Evelyn up, she unknowingly left her with an adoption agency that was actually a lab ran by a deranged wizard who wished to experiment on "half-breeds" (human and non-human hybrids). For the first twelve years of Evelyn's life, she was treated like an animal more than a human. It didn't help that her demonic appearance was kept under lock and key due to the binding promise Garcia and Timothy made. But, due to Timothy's death, half of that promise was broken, which allowed Evelyn to use her Umbrakinesis, which is a common shadow demon ability. She escaped at twelve years of age and was found by authorities after being homeless for a few months. Maggie, her adoptive mom, decides to take her in and rename her to Evelyn.

oooh, i see. so the queen doesn't mind evelyn at all but her son really does. it's also interesting to know that they're both hiding amongst the poor. if you haven't already made hte prince, i might want to make him, too. it's interesting to know that both he and gabriel are evelyn's half-siblings, but just with different parents, and the sort of foils they are in that wherein gabriel wants to protect evelyn and the prince blames everything on her. kind of something between spite and anger and love and hope and how they both have to hide the way they feel about their situations, one for his own sake and the other for the people around him. they would make an interesting pair of indirect brothers. i would love to see the main two meet the queen and her son. and alright, all the shit on the demon lord makes sense! why is he going after evelyn, though? it doesn't seem like she would affect his quest for power that much since she's already far away from hell and all to do with it. and ooooof. poor fucking evelyn. but it's good to know she had connections while she's there and that she'll be able to connect with them once more when they come back. i see something mentioned about a rebellion at the lab. will our characters be included in that? because it's fun to imagine evelyn unlocking the full potential of her powers and having someone also strong on her side and them passing nearby the lab and evelyn is just like "fuck this i'm getting the people i love out of there" and goes to do so and helps against what is basically a war against the owners of that establishment. it would be a nice plotline and they could get a few party members from there, since i remember theo is supposed to tag along. but god. yeah. i still really like gabriel and like. the implications of dynamics. i like the implications of dynamics for most of this, really, but i especially love the dynamic between gabriel and evelyn. gabriel's mother dies and his life is ruined right when it's starting to come along perfectly and his father tells him what little he needs to know and sends him off to save someone else's life, leaving him with a dead mother as he's isolated with his father. he's lost and confused and yet he is aware of someone who deeply needs help and is just as confused and endangered and he tries to be strong with them. basically reduces himself to a tutorial for evelyn, tells her what's going on and what to do so that she feels comfortable becuase at least someone knows what they're doing. it's like. the feeling of having a mentor figure who's a little bit vague but you at least know they know what's happening. it makes you feel at least a little bit safe and gabriel tries to provide that for evelyn since she knows JACK SHIT and he's been told a little bit by his dad. but he got told all of this literally right before he was sent off and he knows just as much as her after he tells her, but he still continues to act as her tutorial and mentor through this because she's scared and needs someone to depend on and he doesn't want to let her down, even though he's just as scared and knows barely any more than she does and he's literally just a college student who's going through the worst period of his life he ever has. i love mentor figures who are only mentor figures because they know just a little bit more than the mc does. gabriel is so fucking scared and afraid and sad but he bottles it all up so that evelyn can feel safe.

So that's the part I'm struggling to like, remember >.> The only thing that I can rationalize is that word of Evelyn's existence starts spreading around, along with the knowledge of the prince's existence. And because technically, the Prince and Evelyn aren't blood related, there's a risk that Evelyn and him could try and come together to resurrect the kingdom by becoming its rulers. The only reason the Demon Lord ever won against Kieero's kingdom is because the attack was unfair and brutal, catching a heartbroken Kieero and already surprised demon race off guard and instilling fear there. But if they were able to coordinate an attack? Drenante demons are absolutely terrifying, having the ability to drain one's life source and domain over shadows. So- perhaps the Demom Lord is fearing that an uprising would happen and two royal Drenante demons, even if they're mixed in blood, could stake claim to that kingdom once again. If you wanna make the Prince, you can! I have no quarrel with that whatsoever :o I don't have a lot on him done anyways, to be honest. I think him and Kieero meeting the main two would be so interesting, and definitely be angsty. Ooo!! Yes! I would love going to the lab and kicking ass as a subplot, along with a reason to get more people on their side. Introducing new characters to their growing party would make things interesting.

Oh! Kieero and an unknown wrath soldier are the birth parents of the Prince. Timothy and Kieero were never able to have an heir, much to the sadness of the queen. But yes, Evelyn and the Prince aren't technically related directly. Edited at October 7, 2023 04:23 PM by Rushie

oh, evelyn and the prince aren't related? that's kind of a shame for plot reasons, but that's alright. and ooooh, i see. so the demon lord comes after her due to his paranoia and his own paranoia turns out to be his downfall since nothing would have happened had he not chased after them and made them his enemy by doing so. there's a little bit of ego mixed in there, too, in that he thinks that he could just easily wipe them out and then all threat would be eliminated; through both believing that everyone is out against him and thinking that he could intelligently and easily stop the problem before it began (though it was a perceived problem in the first place), he dug his own grave. that's also interesting thematically. i like that idea. knowing that now, though, that makes things extremely interesting. because it sets the prince up as the deuteragonist, no? he's being hunted down along with his mother, the person he's depended on and loved most due to her being the one with him while their lives fell apart around them and they were reduced to hiding their identities amongst the poor. gabriel might be the one accompanying evelyn and therefore has the light of the story upon him for longer, but the prince is the one with more relevance. knowing his story while evelyn is dealing with her own could be interesting and when their stories finally intertwine, seeing the trouble that ensues due to the fact that hte prince simply doesn't want to have to team up with evelyn but he'll eventually have to is interesting. he probably would eventually end up as part of the party, but as an antihero as opposed to evelyn's hero. interesting. very, very interesting.

Yea, I'm sorry for that 😭In the long run, it didn't make sense to me for Timothy and Kieero to have had a child before the absolute mayhem that transpired due to the Demon Lord's rampage. If any child had been born before that, I have a gut feeling that the Demon Lord would've murked the poor kid, as a way to prove his point further. But yes! It is the Demon Lords own paranoia that leads to his downfall. If he just left Evelyn alone, he would've been able to achieve his idea of power in Hell. But now, we have a ragtag team of hybrids ready to fuck his plans up royally lmao. Aww, Gabriel! Our half-angel baby who's just going through a lot right now-

Also- setting the Prince up as the deuteragonist is perfect for his story arc. It's like the phrase "The enemy of my enemy is a friend" personified.
