I see a lot of people advertising like "2nd gen wolf" like having a lower gen is a good thing, but I don't know why it is a good thing?

Gen is short for Generation! For players who prefer shorter generations of wolves (aka they have a shorter bloodline) it's easy to keep track of their parents/grandparents/etc. to keep them from being Inbred or to see who all is in their lines. Note that Inbreeding wolves doesn't have any actual game effects, it's solely a player-based preference.
