ALERIUS RAIANUS PINE
──※ ·❆· ※──
"This castle's got a lotta secrets."
Male | Pallavean Prince | Twenty-four | Heterosexual?
Reputation:
Alerius is revered by the kingdom, naturally. Of course, he's most likely feared as well- he can and will speak publicly, but he doesn't, more often just standing there, looking like a prince. Being the second oldest, there are a lot of expectations set for him, in case something should happen to the eldest. He's one of the "backups", but everyone knows who he is. After all, he's royalty.
Appearance:
Alerius is the picture of a perfect prince: confident, commanding, regal. Upon first meeting him, he seems standoffish; he doesn't say much, and the stiff, discerning gaze with which his green, gold-flecked eyes watch the people around him has been known to cause someone's skin to crawl under sheer intensity. Of course, it doesn't help that he's almost as tall as his brother Castoros, standing five inches above his sister at a looming height of six feet. The muscles he's built from years of classes on how to be a prince and a connoisseur of fine arts (swordsmanship, penmanship, craftsmanship) are defined, but not so much as to make him look bulky. They match his broad, tanned build rather nicely.
He has a diamond-shaped face, topped with a head of dark brown hair that's naturally slicked back and out of his face. It's cut short by his neck, cleanly cropped and giving him a more dignified air, being clean-shaven rather than looking disorganized and unkempt. The bit of facial hair he chooses to keep stays short and around his chin, though if he's unable to find a good dagger (or, alternately, just doesn't feel like cutting it), he'll let it grow out- never more than an inch or so. Alerius has a straight nose that bridges somewhat thick, curved eyebrows and a mouth that seems to be ever so slightly tilted to make him look as though he doesn't like you. And maybe he doesn't.
When he walks, he seems to glide along, surprisingly full of grace for someone so inherently large- as is expected for a prince. His long strides easily match anyone else's and then some, and even if he's not trying to be quick, he'll pass people in the castle or on the streets (the occasional times he escapes). Perhaps the first word to describe him on sight wouldn't be "graceful", but it is evident to someone who watches people.
The clothing he adorns consists of fitted, open clothing, high boots, tailcoats, and an exceeding amount of Pallavean colors. It's not necessarily what he wants to wear, and when there's no ceremonies, events, and only his siblings around, he'll strip all that away and choose to go around in loose cotton and leather- more humbling clothing he's bought at markets, the times he's been away. As for accessories, he wears two bracelets on his left wrist and one on his right- leather, replaced with gold cuffs when he needs to appear more like a royal. He keeps one earring in each ear, small golden hoops that he's had since a child.
Handwriting:
Elegant and flowy, his handwriting is distinctly his own. His letters are long and narrow, slightly diagonal in nature, and more freeform- in as straight a line as possible. Even on the times he writes quickly, his letters merely flow into eachother, but each word is distinguished and recognizable.
Voice Claim:
Similar to Jon Snow, Game of Thrones
His voice is low, rumbling, causing people to swoon with its velvet quality. Even as it is, it's also exceedingly tonal- when he speaks, the pitch flows freely higher or lower in a comfortable, unique fashion. The castle attendants who know him best have been infamous for standing near him just to hear his voice.
Personality:
If one were to guess who the first to try and escape the dutifully dull life of a prince, they likely wouldn't expect it to be Rai. He gives off the air of someone who does everything they do with the kingdom, for the kingdom- but he doesn't. When it comes down to it, he'll do what needs to be done to maintain their security and well-being. Of course, that's not to say his entire life revolves around keeping people safe- only in the rare times he takes the place of his elder brother to take charge. He has spent nearly as much of his life outside the castle as he has inside the castle, taking nights (where he should be asleep) and making his way through the servants' quarters, only to be back before dawn.
He has been caught. He has been kept locked in his room so he wouldn't be able to see their kingdom with his own two eyes.
In situations where he needs to act like a prince, he will. But he much prefers the humble life of a sailor, a farmer, anyone else. Having an adventuring spirit doesn't exactly help you when you have meetings, fittings, trainings, classes, and mere appearances all hours of the day. Wanting less isn't the type of life for a prince. Wanting less is only going to get him killed if the kingdom recognizes him.
He doesn't speak often, but when he does, he knows what he's talking about. Alerius is very much the quiet, intellectual type- he is less likely to share with you the things he does, and talk your ear off about them, than he is to be found by you writing, or playing the lute, or training with a friend to improve his skills. His mind works in very strategic ways- when he speaks, he gets the whole room to listen to him, as even though he doesn't speak softly, the melancholic things he has to say could turn anyone's ear.
Being the discerning type, he can pick up on many things missed by quite a few others in social situations. He sees the servant's terrified eyes. He sees the noble's disloyal drawl. And in his own way, he calls them out- or helps them. Alerius has a calming effect on people, his mind very settled and peaceful. That doesn't mean he doesn't stand up for what he cares about- if you get between him, and who he loves, you are going to regret it.
And the time you do, he won't be playing word games.
Motive:
He doesn't really have a motive. He doesn't really want to be married.
That doesn't mean he won't find someone he loves, of course.
Strengths:
Stoic | He can see through people, almost as if he looks into their hearts. Without saying a word, he can get them to admit to things, just because he looks like he's suspicious of them- regardless of if he is or not.
Skilled | From a young age, he was trained to be good in the arts, in riding, in swordsmanship, everything a good prince should know. As such, he's able to do much, much more than the common man.
Leaderlike | He may not want the crown, but people who he's met say he would be a perfect fit. He's smart, calm, and decisive. He'd be the perfect king... right?
Weaknesses:
Stubbornness | Once he's gotten an idea in his head, there's no letting it go. Not his brothers, not even his little sister (who he adores, mind you) could stop him.
Intimidation | The point of being a royal is to get people to like him. While this isn't so hard once they've met him, they sure don't want to the way he looks at people. The way he stands. The way he exists.
Adventure | He never wanted the life of a royal, the life of a prince. While others can't necessarily pick up on it, those in the castle- his siblings more than his parents- know he wants to get away. And they know he can't. He knows he can't. Every day, the bitterness, the discomfort, the indifference with which he sees royalty builds.
Likes:
Wandering | He likes to get away. And sometimes, he needs to.
Writing | A side hobby of his, when he's not busy, sleeping, or away, is writing. Tales, poems, songs for bards to carry on. He does it all.
Commoners | They're... fascinating. Did you know they don't have people who watch their every step? That they know how to cook? That they can go wherever they want?
Dislikes:
The Castle and Royalty | He's had enough of rich, entitled families, having to be careful of every word he says (--yes. So he says nothing), and having every day feel, every day be, the same as the last, the same as the next.
The heat | Having been raised in a region without excessive heat, when temperatures get above eighty, above ninety, he's more likely to take cover somewhere underground than tolerate the sun. After all- everything aside, he still had the luxury of choice.
Relations:

Companions:
Vjalka | His loyal steed. She tends not to like anyone except for him. She's unpredictable, and has more than likely kicked or bucked a few castle servants away from her, and that's why he likes her. When he's with her, he's free.
Bird | The royal housecat he calls his own. They likely keep some in the lower levels to keep out the pests, but bird is his favorite. He's a maine coon- dark brown, with a lighter underbelly and bright green eyes. Most often he's found chasing rats or ravens, but the cat's taken a particular liking to Rai. He always comes back to his person, no matter where he is.
