Complete, minus the drawing which shall take me ages. I may edit her appearance once that is complete, depending on whether or not I end up adding or subtracting something from her.
A gem in the darkness~

Laoise
Celtic Meaning “Light, Radiance”
Age:
277

Female

Dark

Sierra Swallow
Appearance:
Drawing in coming along well. Just strugging with the legs at the moment. ;-;
Graceful and elegant is the build of Laoise – majestic yet powerful in its own right, however small she may be. Standing at a height of a mere fourteen feet, she is considered to be quite petite for a dragon of her class and rarely, if ever, towers over anyone. From ground to muscular shoulder, one can measure her to be up to eleven feet, while her neck makes up the other three of her height. Her body length isn’t much better, with its total being just a single foot more than her height – fifteen feet. Seven of those fifteen units are reserved for her body as the other eight go to her tail. This smaller build has allowed for her to navigate through spaces that many dragons would have trouble squirming their way through. Especially other dark dragons.
The line between practical and mystical elements have been blurred when it comes to the form of this dragon – both playing a major part in her making. Her build appears to be an overall lean one, but one with incredibly muscular aspects that are seldom noticed. Her chest is the most obvious center of this muscle mass, with her tail being a good runner up to the contest of being the most heavily built. Despite her peaceful nature, it is quite clear that she is designed around a more physically strong lifestyle. Though, durability remains a middle ground. A singular row of sharp spikes lines her spine, starting at the top of her head and continuing down her tail. Their size is mostly consistent, with the first and last being no less than five or six inches and the largest exceeding no more than eight. Nothing is located at the very tip of her tail besides the spine that cuts off the row just before it. These spines, oddly enough, are in a more backwards angle on her body – more-so flat against her head than stick up like those on other dragons which tend to stick upwards. These spines cannot be physically controlled by her. A small separation of these spines at the base of her neck is present, and is the most common seating of her rider. This dragoness does live a quadrupedal lifestyle with paws akin to those of more reptilian creatures. Each toe is equipped with short but sharp claws that have been equated to those of a cougar, minus the retractable aspect. Dew claws are present on her front legs while two others curve out from the ankles of her hind ones. Large quantities of scales line the sides, neck, and tail of her form – being diamond shaped in appearance and decently sized. These scales have been known to cause a good chunk of damage towards attackers, their edges and points being incredibly sharp. Unlike her inability to control her spines, however, she does have the innate power to slightly adjust her own scales to increase the amount of damage taken when physically striking her. Protective wear is very much advised when riding her, even when the scales are flat against her. It has also been noted that some of her scales appear to glisten under bright lighting, akin to how a diamond or patch of snow does under the sun. Her underbelly is, naturally, much softer than her top side. Its scales are separated into plate-like patterns, similar to those of a snake. The lines between these scales are often difficult to make out. However, this patterning ends not long after spreading a few inches down her tail.
The mystical dragon’s head is a bit more rectangular in shape, fit with rounded corners and rather define features. Its general appearance is more reptilian in its design, but cannot be equated to most known species documented today. A separation between snout and head is noticeable, rather than the more streamline look some reptiles tend to follow. Her snout, like the rest of her head, takes on a more blocky form, but retains those rounded corners. No nose horn is present. Her upper and lower jaws differ in width – with the upper being wider than the lower, even if not by much. The teeth within her maw are like those of canines such as wolves, with fangs in the front and molars in the back. Her tongue, on the other hand, appears to take after that of a geckos. However, it does not have the mobility of one. Two pairs of horns line the back of her skull, having two on either side. These horns are connected to one another at their bases (so long as they are on the same side of her head, of course). Though, they are still separate enough to be considered their own entities. Both horns are rather short, ranging from six to eight or nine inches. The bottom horn is, as one would expect, shorter than the top horn. Both horns have curvature to them – with the top going straight before dipping down and back up, and the bottom curving down almost immediately before swiftly coming back up to a point. No spines reside on her head, only sprouting up directly after it ends. The eyes of this female are not like those on most dragons. They are a bit of a mix between a reptilian eye and a mammalian one, with a pupil like that of a human or big cat. In other words, circular and expanding only to take in more light to see. They are slightly hazy appearing as well and hint towards her lackluster eyesight.
Two wings spread from the sides of this gentle being, powerful and striking as any part of her is. They cover a wingspan of around twenty eight feet, nearly double her own body length. Their general structure appears to be bat-like in nature, with a few alterations to their looks. Unlike some dragons which have purely bat-based wings, Laoise only showcases that alignment along the underside of her wings. Meaning, that is the only section of her wing in which the wing fingers can be observed. The top of her wings does not showcase these fingers whatsoever, let alone the wing’s arm. Here, the wings appear “solid” or “flat” – only presenting any sort of division when folded or flapping. It is almost like she has two different wing webbings, with one covering the structures that help them all stay together. This upper webbing is much tougher than her lower one, being designed to withstand rubbing against jagged cavern walls. These wings are also impeccably flexible, almost as though they were double jointed. They can twist in ways that numerous dragons would consider painful, if not at least uncomfortable. This allows her to formulate much needed shade with ease, as well as confine her breath attack to a specific area.
True to her name, Laoise is… not exactly what one would believe to be a dark dragon. She was born with the defect of albinism, shifting what could have been luxurious dark scales into bright and varying shades of white, cream, silver, and gray. With the added flavor of some blues. While some of her kind may look down upon her abnormal appearance, she counts it as a blessing. A way to stand out within a crowd. Despite what most would believe, though, she is not void of markings as so many albinos are. Rather, she carries a large amount of them, and carries them well. Her general body color is of a slightly off-white hue, coating most of her upper body as well as the upper webbing of her wings. Markings like those of a whiteout morph leopard gecko are seen along her body, being a mix of small spots and larger blotches. The spots are a sort of snow tan in color and hard to pick out from the brightness of her general scales, with a few lighter colored ones sprinkled within. The larger spots or blotches are located along her left hip, mid tail (with it slanting to the right), and the back of her neck. These markings contain two different shades – having a thick outer right of snow tan and a small inner portion of lotion tan. These blotches are not at all uniform in shape, and vary greatly between themselves. Snow tan colored, stripe-like spots can be observed traveling down her tail in pairs. The first pair is located towards the beginning of her tail while the other is more towards its end. These stripes are well sized and somewhat thick, and seldomly stray into the underside of her tail. The upper tip of her tail has also been dipped in this hue. The female’s underbelly is similar to the white of her upper body, but is more of a pure white and is nearly completely uniform in color. Though, a few snow tan spots do stray into that area. The underside of her wings also shares this white hue. Both the upper and lower portions of her wings contain smaller blotches of slightly varying colors. Snow tan makes up the majority of those on the bottom while ghost white forms those on the bottom. Some small spots of lotion tan and alice blue, respectively, can be seen amongst these blotches. Running along the back of her head is a decently thick and not-at-all-straight ring of snow tan which ends at the back of her eyes. The area that the ring encapsulates as well as the bridge of her snout are painted in lotion tan. A few specks of snow tan are sprinkled amongst this brighter tan. The sides of her snout retain that off-white hue of her body while the lower jaw takes on the pure white of her underbelly. Her horns and spines all appear to be a creamy, light gray hue, like that of some clouds. Her eyes take on the usual reddish pink that most albinos possess.
Between the two horns along the left side of her head resides a beautiful moon flower, its petal as white and pure as her scales itself. This flower acts just as any of its kind would – constantly healthy and opening and closing in a timely manner. Many rumors have sprouted from who has met the two starstruck dragons, with many believing that it is the love the two share that keeps this flower alive and well. The flower also has a habit of reacting to the emotions of its wearer. When immense joy or love is felt, vines will gingerly grow and spread about her two horns, with pink moon flowers blooming along them. In other words, they are an ever-present sight when around her beloved Diyvanshu. These flowers have a tendency to glow under such intense positive emotions as well, with the center white one emitting the most light. When a large amount of negative emotions are felt, however, the flower will appear to wilt and shrivel against her head, and any amount of its glow will be snuffed out.
The roars of this dragon are unlike any other – a symphony of cords blended in such a serene that is impossible to replicate. They speak not of danger nor friendship, but of tales long since past yet not lost. The tale of friendship is her most common performance, a gentle harmony of harp and flute at a tempo so slow and meaningful that few can resist the temptation to stop and listen. The legend of the land’s most prosperous is her second most common, striking blend of an ocarina and violin. A tall tale to some, but one she fully believes if the adventurous and joyous notes are anything to go by. This is by far her loudest performance. The fable of war is by far her most seldom used but not recognizable by far, being a combination of strange-otherworldly sounds that few would ever expect to hear emit from the female. The harrowing and brassy bellow of a carnyx comes out of her at full blast while her tail drums against the ground in rhythmic beats – imposing and dangerous, with a somber tone of loss from the dark notes of a fiddle in the background. This exact turn is used for tale of peril, but with the added ear-piercing notes of a piccolo and the raising of pitch for the carnyx. Finally, the song of victory. A combination of all tales before it, accumulating the true heart of resolution. The strum of a harp, soft notes of an ocarina, brassy blast of a carnyx, and trills of a piccolo accumulate into one final tale of triumph.
Laoise’s voice is an unmistakable one that is hard to shake from the mind. It is as soft as the coo of a dove, quiet and meek all in its own right. A melody for the ages. Its gentle melody has been described as silk for the ears to hear and as calming as the scent of lavender. She is easy to speak overing, like the soft timbre of a melodic flute amongst the blast of the ensemble. But, not many are willing to do so, much too content on hearing her serene notes. Her tone is ever patient, with the promise of loving care and bubbling affection always within. Few have heard it shift or raise in volume – having only done so under immense pressure, which is something she usually avoids. However, like her normal one, it stuns all those within range of its blast. Its pitch is more on the higher side with some medium aspects lingering out. Almost as if the flute was playing just the first octave of the B flat scale. A Scottish or Celtic accent has lingered its way into her loving voice, adding even more flavor to her already mystical sound.

Abilities:
Wandering Phantoms
Darkness is of no stranger to Laoise, no matter how bright she may appear. She was born within it, growing up within its comforting embrace. It is an old friend of hers, one that has granted her many strengths and work-arounds for her glaring weaknesses. An alternative to proper eyesight was one such advantage gifted by this natural protector. The ability to see movement through shadows is no skill to scoff at. It shakes the very core of the term “hiding,” leaving all with the horrifying message: When one is in the shadows, they can never hide. Their only hope is to stay still. This ability covers a fifty foot radius from the dragon in all directions, so long as these shadows are connected to one another and she is at least partially in one. This radius can, however, be extended up to one hundred feet so long as she’s given time to concentrate. Her eyes must be shut as she does so, lest her focus is to falter.
Light Absorption
From the outside perspective, many would consider one of Laoise’s more common abilities – that being light absorption – to be an oddity for a dark dragon. After all, its very name suggests that it is to go against her very nature as such a being. However, this is simply judging a book by its cover. What some fail to consider is that these two elements work in tandem. Both cannot exist without the other, and yet both resemble the absence of the other in some way. Such as the case for this ability. By absorbing all the light in her near vicinity, she creates the absence of it. In other words, pitch black darkness. The light collected remains stored within herself until further use, causing her to quite literally glow – however soft said glow may be. This is strictly due to her coloration and is not usually seen in most dark dragons. This true usage of this ability varies between circumstances. At times, it could be used as a means of camouflage or added stealth for others with her glow being just soft enough for those close to her to be able to partially see through the looming darkness. Though, its primary usage comes in the form of a boost to some of her other abilities, if not the harnessing of one.
Casting Silhouette
Of the abilities this dragoness, this is likely one that most would expect her to possess. By commanding the shadows upwards from the present position, Laoise can form hazy barriers of dense, dark fog in order to halt or falter on coming attacks. This shield of sorts can take the form of a bubble – surrounding her entire being with a semi-sphere of shadows – or a simple, straight, one sided wall-like shape. It should be noted that the bubble takes much more time, shadows, and energy to form than a wall, being only used when she has enough time and distance to form it. The walls are much quicker and less energy-expensive to utilize, and is her go-to when in need of a more defensive play. The ability to morph existing shadows or darkness in general into shields or barriers is not all that outstanding of a power, in terms of uniqueness. However, this is one aspect that causes this ability to stand out a bit more than others. When necessary, the albino female can form shadows that appear and act just as a dragon would. These shadowy figures move on their own accord and can provide a distraction when necessary. However, only one can be formed at a time and they have to form from her own shadow. This also costs her even more energy than a bubble but is quicker to form than a wall. If used after her light absorption, walls, shields, and figures created from the darkness left in the light’s absence will be completely solid – as if it were made of stone. Prior to this, all barriers and shadowy beings formed are seemingly composed of incredibly dense fog that is enough to slow down on coming attacks for her not to get hit but is still possible to traverse through, as hard as it may be to do so.
Billowing Smog
One of the dark dragon’s few offensive capabilities – billowing smog is one of many breath-based attacks that few have come to understand. It is near unexplainable in the eyes of many. But, then again, not many are willing to unveil its secrets based on what they’ve already seen. When no other options are plausible, Laoise will produce a rushing stream of heavy black smog from her maw – so thick one could practically cut it with a knife. This smog has a tendency to roam further than she would like which has led to her utilizing the natural flexibility of her wings to act as a sort of canopy to keep it contained. This is especially true while in the air, in which she will perform a twirling motion in order to create a sphere of this dense haze. The initial effects of this breath may vary from being to being. To some, the surrounding air will become difficult to breathe in, leading to a more panic based response. Though, it is not enough to outright suffocate anyone. To others, they will be relatively unaffected with the smog just being difficult to navigate in terms of sight – as it is impossible to see through – and general motion. That is, however, at first. If too much of this blackened fog is inhaled, no matter which response they fall under, side effects will begin to take place a few days after the initial exposure. The first thing one will notice is the start of an unexplained fever starting three to five days after they first breathed in the fog. This fever will appear to have no correlation to her ability, and act as though it were a cold or flu symptom. A week to ten days after the exposure is when the victim gains the effect of limited sight, as though she passed on her own cures to the one experiencing it. Finally comes the delusion, starting two weeks up to a month after the initial exposure, depending on the victims mental health. The being will begin to witness shadowy figures all around them with completely undefined features besides pure white eyes and mouths. At first, they only stare blankly at the person. But, as time goes on, they will begin to present the viewer with horrifying faces or terrible actions. Some may even appear to rush at the one affected. The only way to rid oneself of these side effects is to be touched by a light dragon. Said light dragons along with other dark dragons are immune to the side effects. This breath can either draw its strength from her own gathered energy or any light she may have absorbed.
Healing Gleam
The one power that comes strictly from another. This ability allows the dark dragon to actually use the light she may have previously absorbed, aside from it strengthening her breath. By breaking down the absorbed light, she can use it as a regenerative force for herself. In doing so, she speeds up the natural healing process of her wounds, causing them to take just a few days to heal. Ridding herself of scars is another possibility of this ability, but it takes a lot more light than a general wound. When in use, the glow gained from absorbing light diminishes.
Strengths:
+ Physical Strength: A novelty few would expect from the grateful dragoness. Although she may not look to be much, Laoise can handle herself quite well if need be – having the strength of a few ox on her side. Though, she is rather unwilling to use this against others if push comes to shove.
+ Night: A given strength for the gal, seeing as she is of the dark class. Not only does this time of day provide her with the means to use some of her abilities with much ease, but it lessens the strain on her already less than stellar eyesight.
+ Shadowy Areas: Same as the above strength, but generally to a lesser degree.
+ Story Telling: An odd strength that some could find utterly useless, but Laoise has been known to be rather skilled in the aspect of story telling. An annoyance to the more impatient folk, but a welcomed addition for her. What some many fail to consider is that this skill does not only focus on the more fantastical tall tales that others often tell. Truth is sometimes hidden behind her fancy descriptions, ever outlandish it may seem. In a way, one could consider her a lore keeper. Even if said lore seems to strange to be true.
+ Cutting Scales: Despite her gentle natural and quaint appearance, the bright-colored female has not been left without physical defenses. Her naturally sharp scales have the tendancy to cut anyone who just so happens to brush them the wrong way, even when they not made to stand. Upmost care it to be taken when touching her due to them.
Weaknesses:
- Eyesight: Given her status as an albino, it is over surprise to absolutely no one that Laoise’s eyesight is… less than stellar. It acts much like those of a nearsighted person, but certainly on the lesser side. This weakness is only exemplified under bright light in which she becomes effectively blind after a few moments.
- Day: An expected weakness that rarely escapes the mind of others. With day naturally comes bright light – a slight hinderance to most of her abilities if light absorbance is not taken into account. Even the cloudy days prove troublesome for her, especially when it comes to her eyesight which is heavily strained under the sun’s rays. Shadowy areas are often sough out in order to lessen the strain.
- Brightly Lit Areas: Same as the above weakness, but heavily dependent on the environment. Some areas have a lesser effect on her eyesight and abilities, while others have a stronger one.
- Flexibility: Aside from her marvelously flexible wings, the dragoness is considereed to be a bit lacking in this department. With how her spikes are structured, tight turns and certain manuevers are not possible without the risk of damaging her own hide.
- Incredibly Noticeable: As lovely as her appearance my be, it does come with some major disadvantages. The inability to camoflauge in any natural or comfortable environment is the most blatent of the these. This is especially true at night where the white scales create a stark contrast between her and her shadowy surroundings.

- More of a fun fact note than anything else, but I actually based that flower of hers off the Celtic story “The Willow Maid.”
- Yes, I did absolutely do research for her calls. And I still haven’t stopped listening to the tunes since.
Had a brainblast earlier while detailing her sheet, so I now have an artifact idea if ya need one. XD
