"Waffle House. The fondest memory of my youth was waiting out a terrible tropical storm in Florida in a Waffle House. I was young, maybe about five or six at the time, traveling the country with my Godfather. The roads were blocked, fallen trees. The rain was so thick you couldn't see your hands even if they were resting before your face. We stopped before a Waffle House and hunkered down for nearly five hours, waiting out the storm. Many others took shelter within the restaurant, and with a large scale power outage underway, everyone was stranded for the time being. The companionable silence we all shared was peaceful. Comforting. My fellow man offering great kindness to one and other as we endured nature's wrath in the simple bricked building."
