Sorcha agrees, since her return to the field. They hadn't done anything that would get them in trouble. Chief Peterson wasn't someone to just summon them to his office for chit chats either. Which meant that he had a new mission for the two. Sorcha agrees with a mumble, fear coursing through her body briefly at the thought of a new assignment. Their last mission that had been assigned by the chief had not ended well for her. Sure, they'd saved the little girl, but it hadn't been the most pleasant experience for Sorcha.

She fights the fear and panic down, she wasn't going show any weakness. She was a police officer, it was part of her job! What kind of officer would she be if she was already balking out of assignments simply because of how her first one ended? As they get closer to the chief's office, she drops her hands, forcing herself to stop fiddling with her bracelet. She knew that the long-sleeved shirt got her funny looks from the other officers, especially now that it was getting hotter. But she didn't care, she still wasn't ready to wear short-sleeves. And she also noticed that Ajax would offer her water or slow the pace down. It was something she had noticed but hadn't said anything to her partner about. Sorcha was grateful about it, although she did still try to push herself as hard as she could.

"Come in."

Sorcha slides past Ajax, muttering a thanks as she sits down in one of the chairs. She looks up at Peterson, who had scattered files and paperwork all over the usually clean and organized desk. She frowns as she looks at them, her keen gaze catching some of the words. Gangs. Drugs. Her lips thin as she looks back up at Peterson. She had a feeling she knew what their next assignment was. But busting a gang for drugs was hard. Her father had busted two gangs for drugs while he was an officer, and according to him, it was incredibly hard to do.

(I didn't know if you wanted me to take over Peterson and give them assignment, XD. So I just left it at that, lmao)

(It's fine, lmao! Sorry, I fixed the mistakes in my last post, the two at the end. Those were more or so reminders to fix something cause i was too tired because I typed that at midnight lol. They are fixed now!)
-
"i assume that you've heard the rumors going around the law enforcement agencies about a drug ring growing in downtown Fallen Hills?" Chief Peterson spoke, setting down the papers he read on top of a few manila-colored folders. Ajax narrowed his eyes and nodded, looking down at the papers that had just landed on the desk. A name was printed in big bold, underlined letters, and dates, locations, and pictures were written or printed underneath. Ajax lifted his gaze to meet the eyes of the Chief of the K9 units. He looked tired and stressed but determined nonetheless.
-
"Scorcher, since you have experience in the field of gangs and drugs, albeit not as much as I'd prefer for this job, you're our best fit for this," Peterson stated. A scowl pulled at Ajax's face, but before he could protest, the Chief held up a hand to stop him. "What happened last time wasn't solely your fault, but try and be a bit more cautious this time since you'll be going in with a human partner." Under their superior's pointed look, Ajax was smart enough to keep his mouth shut. He leaned back further into his chair and listened while Peterson continued to talk. "Of course, you'll be going in without your canines. To obvious. Ajax, while Nyx is healing, she'll be put with Ethan and Thorne while you are on duty." Nyx had pulled a couple of muscles in one of her hind legs a couple of days ago during a chase. it was nothing serious, but she'd be out of commission for another week or so. The Chief looked over at Sorcha. "Now, this is up to you, MacKintosh, if you want to go along with Scorcher. if you aren't feeling up to the job, I can assign him another partner for this job."
-
Inwardly, Ajax was hoping that Sorcha would refuse the job. He didn't know the extent of her mental injuries, and diving into an alias that you had to prove to a gang, especially one that would be wary of newcomers, would put a lot of strain on anyone. As much as he hoped, Ajax knew she wouldn't back down from the job. He could see the familiar fire flicker in her emerald eyes.
(Ima let you pick the gang's name lol. I'm out of ideas!)

Sorcha's lips thin as she nods. "The Anarchists, right?" Peterson shoots Sorcha an approving glance,"Glad you keep up with the gang rings." Sorcha shrugs, she tried to keep up with all the organized crime in and around Fallen Hills. The Anarchists were one of the newer gangs, but had started climbing up the ladders quick. Already, they were one of the most prominent and powerful gangs in their area. Albeit, they were still one of the smaller gangs. Sorcha's eyes flicker sideways to Ajax as Peterson starts to address him.

"Scorcher, since you have experience in the field of gangs and drugs, albeit not as much as I'd prefer for this job, you're our best fit for this." Confusion flares through Sorcha briefly at the scowl on Ajax's face, but Peterson was quick to rebuff him. "What happened last time wasn't solely your fault, but try and be a bit more cautious this time since you'll be going in with a human partner." Curiosity was quick to replace her confusion. Had Ajax done a drug bust before? What had happened?

Sorcha sighs, it wasn't a surprise that they'd have to leave their K9's behind. But she didn't like going anywhere without Hades or Titan at her side. She'd have to arrange for the two to stay with her parents while they were on the mission. That way neither would be neglected. Her father would keep Hades in shape as well, unless the unit needed him. "Now, this is up to you, MacKintosh, if you want to go along with Scorcher. If you aren't feeling up to the job, I can assign him another partner for this job."

Hesitation flickers through her green eyes, the smart route would be to decline the job. It was still too soon after the traumatic experience of their last job to throw herself into another one. Especially one that would involve undercover work in a gang who very much would kill you if you were busted. Sorcha nods at the files,"May I?" At Peterson's nod, Sorcha reaches for one of the files, picking it up with slightly shaky hands. She opens it and skims through it. It was the file on the leader, the one they'd have to target tp bring the gang down.

Would she be able to do this? Sudden determination and fire surges through her. Yes, she would. She wasn't going to let Kieran and his actions haunt her. She would do this. She closes the file as she looks up at Peterson. "I'll go with Scorcher." She answers firmly. She wasn't backing down. Scorcher needed a partner, and she was his partner.

(XD, all good about the mistakes. I didn't know the Chief's name either, I had to go back and hunt it down. And I just looked up a generator for the gang name, LMAO)

Ajax's jaw clenched slightly as he heard her answer, but it wasn't like he didn't expect it. He turned his head to look back at the Chief, focusing now on the mission ahead of them. It would take a lot of time and diligence if they wanted to pull off the drug bust successfully. Not only did they have to gain the trust of the gang members, and figure out who the leader was and where they were, but they also had to worry about how exactly they'd put as many of the criminals under arrest. Hopefully, they'd also be able t to track who the Anarchists were getting their drugs and substances from so further action could be taken against those people later down the line. Regardless of whatever goal they were planning on completing, it would take a lot of effort.
-
"A'ight, I assume you have our aliases ready and in the system?" He inquired, to which Peterson nodded, pulling out two thinner folders from the bottom of a small stack that sat dangerously close to the upper left edge of his desk. He passed one to each of the officers. Ajax felt a small tinge of...well, honestly, he didn't know how to describe the emotion. Annoyance? Frustration? Worry? Whatever it was, he felt it rise in his chest at the fact that Chief Peterson already had a file ready for Sorcha, like he knew that she'd take this job without much of a second thought. He snuck a glance at Sorcha next to him, then returned his eyes to the file in his hands.
-
At least my name doesn't suck this time. Was Ajax's first thought as he looked at the forged paperwork and records.
Maddox Whitlock
27
Male
Convicted of Vehicle theft, shoplifting, unprovoked physical assault...
"Well, my guy's interesting." He commented, closing the folder. he'd look over it again to memorize the details of his 'character' before they began the assignment.

Sorcha's mind was racing. They were going to have to gain the trust of the gang. Then they would have to figure out how to bust them. Who knew how long that would take? Sorcha's dad, Colin, had once been undercover for a drug bust for eight months. He had been committed to the role and had successfully busted the gang and had been pulled without ever blowing his cover. Hopefully, Sorcha and Ajax could do the same.

Sorcha takes the folder that Peterson offers as she stares down at it. This was it, there was definitely no turning back now. Rylee Hunt. Age 26, female. Convicted of multiple assaults with a deadly weapon, smuggling drugs, and first degree manslaughter. Sorcha's eyes widen as she reads the file. "I'm sorry, first degree manslaughter?" Peterson shrugs. "We had to give you two interesting crimes. Make you stand out to the gang, but also fit in. Gangs want people who are willing to use violence if needed. But we couldn't use the same kind of violence convictions."

Sorcha sighs,"So I've been convicted of first degree manslaughter?" Peterson nods and Sorcha sighs again. "Alright, fine. Where do we start?" There had to be a hangout place where the Anarchists hung out. Now they just had to find it and get in. Then get them to trust them. This was going to be one long assignment.

Ajax raised an eyebrow at the mention of one of Sorcha's crimes. The chief was being quite bold with his choices. "We had to give you two interesting crimes. Make you stand out to the gang, but also fit in. Gangs want people who are willing to use violence if needed. But we couldn't use the same kind of violence convictions." Ajax took a deep breath, his brow furrowing as he thought about it for a few seconds. He held out his hand, asking to look at her file. When he received it, he analyzed it silently, his frown deepening. Her crimes were a lot more violent than his, something similar to what his were last time. You'd think that would be a good thing, but he knew what this would cause. Once they gained the gang's trust and started doing jobs for them, Sorcha would be the one running the violent errands, the ones that got people hurt. She'd be the one they send on more dangerous tasks.
-
"The more "high-end" district of downtown Fallen Hills," Peterson answered. "It might not be as fancy or posh as the uptown is, but it is still pretty big. It's full of clubs and bars and things like that, so it's easy for shady people to blend in. If they aren't there, check the industrial district. Most of the central parts are used by big companies, but around the outskirts are run-down and abandoned warehouses that they could be using. Trouble is usually found there. In the past, most of it was just dumb kids doing dumb things, but we've had issues there before. Our best bet is one of those. I'd suggest heading to the east side of the district." Peterson paused to look at a few of the papers on his desk. "I want you two to leave in the next couple of days. Sorcha, sort out where your K9s will be staying and memorize that information. Get something nice to wear. And drop your accents. You aren't going to convince anyone if you sound like that."
-
Ajax narrowed his eyes. Easier said than done. As the Chief finished explaining their mission to them and excused them, he called out.
"And one more thing: You'll find that they all have this tattoo. At least, seasoned members." He held up a piece of paper with the anarchy symbol printed on it.
-
"How fitting. Anarchy for the Anarchist." Ajax rolled his eyes, once again holding the door open. He had to speak to Soecha about the mission privately, preferably sooner rather than later.
-
(Not gonna lie, I totally forgot that my man is supposed to have a British accent lmao. Gonna sprinkle some more of that in later on lmao)

Sorcha's eyes flicker to Ajax at his request and hands the file over. She knew exactly what it meant to have the more violent crimes. If they had to prove themselves, she would get to the violent crimes. Was she ready? Especially after she had taken Kieran's life? It was still something she was recovering from and to turn around and do all this stuff? It would definitely put a strain on her mental health.

"The more high end district of downtown Fallen Hills." A brief nod from Sorcha, she had been there quite a few times. So, they would have to scout around. It would be a risk to wander around, but as long as they had their guns on them, they would be fine. Wait... "Chief, what about guns? We can't carry ours, they'll spot them as cop guns in an instant." Peterson nods,"We'll get all of that handled for you guys." In response to her K9's, she nods,"My family will take them in while we are gone."

She sighs, her accent was not as heavy as it use to be. But it was harder for her to completely make it disappear. But, hopefully it wouldn't be hard. She would practice now. She eyes the tattoo as she rises to her feet, already allowing an American accent to slip in. "A tattoo? Anyway to get it done temporary but make it look real? After we're pulled, it won't be smart to continue to have a Anarchy tattoo on us." Peterson nods,"We're figuring all of that out, but that should be no issue."

Sorcha nods as she heads for the door, muttering a quick thanks to Ajax as she slips out of the office. Peterson calling out after them,"When you guys are ready to leave, come to my office, and I'll get you guys all of your supplies." Sorcha's response floats back,"Yes sir."
(LMAO, I may have also forgotten Sorcha is Scottish and has an accent.)

Once they exited the Chief's office, Ajax quickly pulled Sorcha into one of the less used hallways, looking down at her with a straight, hard face. Despite his efforts to hide it, concern glinted in his eyes, obvious as daylight.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He questioned, his grip on her shoulders loose but firm. He was careful not to brush against any of her scars, knowing that they were still sensitive. "It's not too late to back out of this. And I'm not saying this because I don't think you can handle this," He said quickly, as if sensing her clipped response. "I know you can handle yourself just fine. You proved that to everyone that you could on the last mission. But while (WHATSHISFACE) was twisted and demented and sick in the head, these guys are ten times worse, trust me. If they're anything like-" His voice caught in his throat, halting his speech. He had to pause, while taking a deep breath, swallowing the lump in his throat before forcing himself to continue. "If they're anything like the bastards I had to deal with last time, this job isn't one you can easily live with."
He had watched Sorcha closely over the past couple of months as she recovered and got back into the field. He had been worried about his partner, and it was clear that while she had recovered physically, she hadn't mentally. He wasn't sure if she could handle what they would probably have her do. Hell, he had to spend several weeks off-duty to stabilize his mental state, and he hadn't gone through severe physical and mental trauma right before the mission.
He took a step back, releasing Sorcha from his grip. Ajax lowered his head so he was staring at the ground, running a hand through his hair. His voice shook a little as he spoke. "These aren't people who do petty crimes and shit for fun or for the adreniline high. This is a well-oiled drug machine, and if they had been able to keep their operation out of law enforcement's radar for this long, they are a lot worse than we thought. Like anyone who deals with illegal activities, they have plenty of enemies." He raised his head, meeting her eyes. "They'll have you kill people, I'm sure. If you really want to do this, you have to be prepared to do that. If you still want to do this, I won't make any objections, but know what you are getting into."
He sighed shakily, leaning against the wall while running a hand down his face.

Sorcha sighs as she's pulled into a quiet hallway, knowing what was coming. She listens quietly as he speaks, her eyes and face revealing nothing. "Yes." She quietly states as he asks if she's sure she wants to do this. She looks down at the ground as he continues. She sighs,"I know that Kier---" She struggles over his name,"Kier---Kieran will be like a walk in the park compared to what we will face in this mission. But I'm not going to back away just because of it. I'm not gonna let him break me. I'm not going to be afraid because of what he did." Sorcha finally looks up at him.

"I know how bad undercover missions can get. My father was absent most of my life because he was always undercover somewhere." He was right to be concerned though. Physically, she was pretty much fully recovered. But her mental stability was uncertain. But in her mind, at that moment, she was convinced that she could do it. That she was stable enough to do this mission. "I'm not going to let the Anarchy's keep running their drug business and their gang. It's hurting people and sending bad products out." Her eyes become hard with determination. "I'm not backing down about this."

This wasn't just about taking down the Anarchy's, at least not for her. This was about proving that she could be a detective. That it took a lot more than torture to break her. Kieran had been one of her first major cases and she refused to let it be her last. She had always wanted to be a detective, ever since her granddad and dad had told her stories. She wasn't willing to throw away her life's dream so easily. She wanted to do this, for the people of the community, and for herself.

(Hiya, I'm alive, and I'm back! Sorry for the hiatus. A couple of notes I feel like I should probably clear up:
  • I speak/type in British English, so some words may look a bit weird and there may be some different phrasing (But my guy is supposed to be a Brit, anyway, so it matches lol)
  • I will actually reread my post before I send it so that I don't leave spaces where I couldn't remember a character's name or something like that. It's funny, but annoying lol
  • Something I feel like is important to the story. After a little while of thinking, here's Ajax's story with the incident that happened in his rookie years with a drug gang. I wanted to clear a few things up. Since I have taken several hiatuses during the course of our roleplay (sorry about that), a few details have been twisted and mixed up. I'll be fixing those here -
  • I mentioned that Ajax's old canine was retired due to an injury in the field. I alluded to this when the Chief told him to be more careful since he was going undercover with a human partner now. That didn't really make sense, since his old dog wouldn't have been with him while he was undercover.
  • Ajax didn't have an undercover partner, but he was following the orders of a senior officer who was on the outside. This also goes against the Chief's statement. You can see that he didn't have any human partner in this, which wasn't true. Here's the real story. Sorcha will hear about this later on, but just so you understand it beforehand-_
  • Ajax was sent in undercover in a drug gang. This was when he was roughly two years into his service, so not totally new, but in the middle of a rookie and a normal officer. He was following the orders of a senior officer that was on the case, but not undercover. To prove himself as a trustworthy gang member, he had to watch some of the gang members more or less torture and kill someone who owed them, and then later do it himself. (Quick note: Undercover police officers are not allowed to break federal law unless it is justified and minimalized. To get away with this issue, the majority of those who owed this gang one thing or the other were bad people who were causing harm to others. It was needed to get closer to the top of the gang ranks, and though it's still murder, it was justified. Not like the people were missed, but still. I just thought I'd add that bit)
  • He got all of the information and such, and everything seemed to be going very well, and nothing seemed off. But that's never the case.
  • On the night of the police raid (this is where his old canine unit comes back in. They were with the senior officer during his undercover period), it went to shite. The gang had somehow found out that Ajax was an undercover police officer and that they were about to be raided and arrested (It isn't clear how they found out. It wasn't like Ajax gave it away in his actions, but the police never learned if there was a mole or if it was an outside source that gave them away). It turned into a gunfight between the police and the gang, ending in several casualties on both sides.
  • In his character sheet, it's detailed that Ajax has a scar from a bullet on one of his thighs. This is where he got it. He was shot in the leg, more of a neutralising move than to kill him since the gang was busy trying to fire at the police. His canine tried to drag him away/protect him, which ended up with the dog getting shot. The wound was non-lethal.
  • The senior officer that he was under was shot in the gunfight. They weren't killed immediately and were quickly removed from the line of fire and rushed to a hospital. The wound was fatal, and the officer died in the hospital.
  • In the end, the police managed to either kill, wound or drive off the gang members. around a third had run, while the majority of the rest were wounded. Two or three gang members were killed. The police had a casualty count of three: One KIA, two WIA.
  • Ajax was temporarily suspended from his work. He wasn't let go as the Department didn't know if the wound in his thigh would permanently damage his ability to work (it didn't), but he was put on leave.
  • It took Ajax a while to heal. First off, the wound itself had to heal. Then, physical therapy was needed to regain the muscle he lost. The longest-lasting effect was the mental damage, obviously.
  • He felt like he couldn't really get out of the facade that he had made to fit into the gang. Had a small 'identity crisis over that fact. The fact that he had to torture and kill people also weighed heavily on his mind. His canine, though they survived, was retired and now lived with a limp. And finally, even though this was never proven and isn't believed by those at the Department, Ajax blamed himself for the death of the senior officer. As a senior officer, they were experienced and a great helping hand in any case. They were also very respected. He believed that he had done something that had given the police away, and now the Department was down one incredible officer. It was a rough couple of months while Ajax was recovering. It was probably the lowest part of his life.
  • Ajax never fully got over this. As heavily requested by his superiors, he attended therapy, but he didn't share everything and still haboured guilt and blame.

Okay, now that that's over, and wow, I didn't think that it would be that long, hopefully you understand a bit more, lol. I will be getting my post out soon, but I thought that I should get this out first to clear things up. I didn't want this to get too long, though, so I decided to post my response in another post.
Ajax will act a little out of character, a little more abrasive, deflecting, and skittish, also a little more panicked and anxious, though he will try to tone it down and suppress it. Just wanted to let you know so that you didn't think I was mixing up his personality mid-roleplay. This is because he's not keen on going back into a similar situation as he was in in his rookie years.
Should've gotten help, bud. Stop suppressing your emotions, XD
-
Anyway, thank you for listening to my TEDTalk.)
